821  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 13, 2024, 05:38:07 PM
I'm seeing quite a few articles today talking about a $50,000 Bitcoin and mentioning that it's more likely than not that Bitcoin will see $100,000 by the end of the year.  This is the sort of thing that gets the ball rolling on FOMO for the masses.  While I think the major fireworks in media will start when Bitcoin hits a new high, the $50,000 barrier is no slouch at generating headlines either.  Sure, there will be some profit taking as people who don't watch the market see the news and dump their forgotten bags, but it won't last forever.  I'm still firmly on team BULL for at least the next two months unless mtgox surprises with a distribution.
822  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where Do You Want To Go To If You Win $2 million On Lottery on: February 13, 2024, 05:33:25 PM
I wouldn't go anywhere if I managed to win an amount as significant as $2 million because I know I have a lot of things to do and moving out of the country isn't one.

I agree with this.  I wouldn't see a $2,000,000 gambling win as a reason to take a vacation.  After taxes you'd barely be looking at a million dollars, which isn't even enough to buy me the kind of house I'd like to live in, let alone start frivolously spending on vacations.  Give me $20,000,000 and then you'll see me start hopping around the Bahamas, shark diving in South Africa, and doing a quick pass through of the world's major cities.
823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: February 13, 2024, 04:04:26 PM
I like the Celtics to beat the Nets, Timberwolves to beat the Trail Blazers, and the Lakers to beat the Pistons tonight. The game I’m really excited to watch though, but won’t be betting on, is the Sacramento Kings vs the Phoenix Suns. Both teams are playing great so that will no doubt be a good matchup.
824  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 13, 2024, 04:02:30 PM
That Wemby game yesterday was pretty crazy. A triple double with 10 blocks is something I can’t say is seen very often. He was 5 assists away from a quadruple double, which I don’t think has been done in a very long time. If memory serves me, I think Hakeem or maybe David Robinson are the only modern day players to have done that.
825  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tucker Interviews Putin on: February 13, 2024, 01:01:14 AM

Yeah, I'm more than sure that in almost 2 years of war there was more than enough requests from Western journalists, but obviously it was all rejected. While Carlson, knowing his views and stance towards Russia, he was good choice. As you say, his was getting lot of popularity, I think it says a lot. Difficult to expect that he will ask inconvenient questions.
That 28 minutes history lesson from Putin. It was interesting interpretation of things from Putin, but Tucker don't had much to respond because he obviously don't know history of this region in detail. Same can be said about target audience of interview. It's not secret that average American redneck don't know much what's happening outside US, not even talking about history. They don't believe in mainstream media, but have lot of trust in Tucker. In US sending military support to Ukraine is getting more opposition than it was in first year of war. And interview like this can increase this public opinion even more, it's important before upcoming elections.

To be honest, I dont understand where the Russian interests align with the interest of the Republican party and the interests of the American people who identify themselves as Republican voters. Perhaps someone here should explain it to me, because I dont get it.
The Republican party I recall from the 2010's and before, it was a party about freedom, conservatism, lower taxes and protection to the second amendment. Where does the freedom values of the Republican party align with Russia and the ideas of Putin? Putin is a proto dictator, who wants to stay in the presidency for the rest of his life and oppress his own people, those who do not go along with his own ideology.

Some republicans will say it is not about supporting a dictatorship, but rather about saving money and not sending the tax payer's money abroad when there are so many things to care about there in the United States, though that also does not make sense, because the Republican party is not against sending money and military equipment to Israel in their war against Hamas. So it is not about money, there is some ideological factor behind all of it. The Republican party in general seem to be more rough on China than they are against Russia, so I am not sure how they would react on the situation possibly going on in Taiwan and the political and military pressure there.

The oversimplified version goes like this. Republicans don’t want to support the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. Republicans think America is giving NATO & other world organizations (WEF) too much money and influence. Democrats think the opposite in both cases. This aside from the differences in social issues. In all cases, Russia would align more with a Republican run USA. This doesn’t mean they are in cahoots though. It mostly means they don’t want to spend money they don’t have or live under a one world government.

1. "A 16 year old bought bitcoin with his/her lunch money in 2013 and now he/she is a millionaire".

BTW, for the first time Turbotax (for US) has a separate rubric (folder) for cryptocurrency taxes (due for 2023).

Sounds like the kids from Bees Brothers right here on this forum. I guess they aren’t kids anymore, but they were back in 2013.

I’m not sure what that means about TurboTax, but it would be nice if you could just link your exchange account and then fill in any missing information that may be needed.
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RTX 5090 and others on: February 12, 2024, 07:09:03 PM
I hope Nvidia never makes an RTX 5090 Smiley
We don’t know how many RTX 4090s customers bought compared to other cards, but it certainly marks a shift in Nvidia’s positioning. Instead of an optional extra on top of the flagship model, the RTX 4090 is the head honcho. It’s the card that gamers salivate over. It’s the gold standard. That’s unfortunately only amplified the issues with the card.

I’m convinced Nvidia will release an RTX 5090 whenever we see next-gen GPUs, but I hope it isn’t as problematic as the RTX 4090 is. Don’t get me wrong, the RTX 4090 is a great card. But trying to achieve such high performance in a PC built for gaming has shown some side effects, and it would be a shame to see those mistakes repeated.

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/hope-nvidia-never-makes-rtx-5090/

There is no choice left for Nvidia to try and achieve huge performance out of the new series than to accept some side effects as the power of new generation cards needs to be great and as such Nvidia needs to push it further and further.

I am very much interested in seeing how much this card has improved in mining efficiency as it needs to get to near 250 Mhsh in processing power to call it a huge improvement. As for gaming we know Nvidia kills it everytime.

With their investors now needing massive profit increases to justify the company's valuation, I suspect pricing on these won't be friendly.  I'll definitely be looking to scoop one up if the right deal comes along though.  I can only imagine if Bitcoin and other cryptos continue to rise in value what these will be selling for in a year from now.  We'll have to wait and see how the real world performance is, but if they try to price these competitively to damage competitors with a price war, it might be a get them while/if you can situation.
828  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for February on: February 12, 2024, 07:05:35 PM
I wouldn't bet against this Bitcoin rally.  Too many people are still on the sidelines.  The folks that were crazy about betting the farm on crypto back at the highs of 2021 are still sitting this rally out.  Most of the people I talk to aren't even aware that Bitcoin has been rising for a year now.  I suspect most people won't even be told about this Bitcoin rally until the price hits new highs, at which point they'll probably start taking out second mortgages to participate.  It still feels really early.  I would resist the urge to take profits if you're able.  I've learned when it comes to Bitcoin you are better served to wait.
829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 12, 2024, 07:01:59 PM
Mavs are not "getting better". What they need is a dominant big man to play with Luka to be fair, if they watched even just a bit of Lukas games, and I do not mean the scouting department, I mean the coaching stuff, then they would know that he plays amazing when he has a superb pick and role partner.

And I am not even talking about hall of fame level player, he just needs an all-star level big to play with him. Instead, what did they do? They got him Kyrie Irving... That makes no sense to me at all. Right now they are not getting better and as long as they keep this team and squad around they will not win any rings and Luka is the type of player who could be best player in a team that won the ring, so he just needs the squad to catch up to him.

I somewhat disagree with you here.  I think the Mavericks are getting better as Luka and Kyrie get more court time together.  Kyrie compliments Luka extremely well.  They can both shoot and spread the floor, but Kyrie can penetrate with dribbling skills while Luka uses his size and guile.  LeBron and Kyrie aren't all that much different from Luka and Kyrie, and I think you are right that the right big man (Kevin Love for the Cavs Lebron/Kyrie pairing) who can also help spread the floor and rebound could take them to the next level.

We've broken through the first major resistance level on the way up.  More than 2 years of resistance wiped out in a heartbeat.  There's still another resistance level around the $51K mark which may take a few attempts to get through, but once that is broken it should be a pretty straight line up to test the previous all time high.  With 2 months to go before profit takers cause a correction to take profits on the halving news, there's a real possibility we may see a new all time high BEFORE mtgox releases their hoard of coins on the market. I didn't think that would happen, so watching an uber bullish scenario play out with another 18 months of rally mode on the way is exciting.

This is a hard story to believe without news articles detailing the hack and some sort of evidence that you’re the one who ended up with the coins. In any event, I hope you didn’t cause too many people too much pain from the stolen funds and managed to do something positive with the ill gotten gains.
832  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 12, 2024, 05:33:02 PM
I hit 1,000 push-ups yesterday. I wonder how long until we hit 100,000 push-ups done in this thread…

Who had Travis Kelce assaulting his own coach during the game? Seems like the guy is unhinged. Must be roided out of his mind or having some booster madness going on. I imagine we’ll be hearing quite a bit about that after the game. Totally inexcusable.
835  Economy / Speculation / Re: Going against the grain. on: February 11, 2024, 11:34:48 PM
Now is a horrible time to sell. We’re currently bumping up against a 2 year old resistance level. We’re about a 10% increase away from breaking out straight to new highs, which will kick off a wave of news reporting and send the price to $100K. It could happen very fast. Especially if mtgox can’t get their distribution done in the next few months…
836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 11, 2024, 11:33:05 PM
Kyle Lowry signed with the Philadelphia 76ers after being bought out by the Miami Heat. Bless his heart chasing a championship. I just don’t think he has enough left in him to help a team win a championship. I’m also not sure how much playing time he’ll get on the 76ers…

I ran out of time before I could place a bet for the Super Bowl, but I’m watching it nevertheless. Without a bunch of random bets to watch I may fall victim to a nap at some point, but there’s always the commercials to try and keep you interested. I’ll admit the NFL doesn’t excite me much these days.
838  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 11, 2024, 06:23:33 PM
The Kings are playing great lately so I like them to win today, but I can’t say I’ll be watching. I’m even a little surprised the NBA is having games today to compete with the Super Bowl. I’d imagine the NFL is probably not overly excited about that development.

Good things come to those who wait.

Indeed. Great news for the Bitcoin network as well. Usually you see transactions spike along with the price. If the mempool gets much clearer it will be a good time to consolidate some inputs for future spending.

The back and forth was a treat. Kevin Durant's block was outdone by a Steph Curry's winning three. I thought the warriors caught a lucky break there as it was almost a steal from a bad inbound pass. On the final inbound, did you notice how Draymond was pounding his chest and screaming at someone? I think that was intended for KD.

That was a great ending and an impressive win for the Golden State Warriors who have been playing really well since Draymond’s return. Stephen Curry showed he still has it tonight with that last second shot to seal the win. Might be some fight left in those old dogs.
