861  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tucker Interviews Putin on: February 08, 2024, 03:52:36 AM
I’m very interested to see this interview and plan on watching it tomorrow night. I think it’s important to hear the other side of the story and I applaud Tucker for bringing that to us. I understand half the people watching will say it’s all propaganda, but just maybe it will make some sort of a difference that can help lead to peace.

Keep your eye on D'Angelo Russell for a possible move tonight.  They're keeping him out of practice and out of tomorrow's game with the excuse that he had a "tune up" on Tuesday.  I'm not sure what that means and it seems like an odd way to bounce around the subject.  If he received treatment, it seems like they could have just said what treatment he received, but the tune up comment struck me as weird.  Maybe nothing, but when a player was seen crying on the bench last week, is out of practice this week and won't be playing in a game on the trade deadline, the rumors are going to swirl...

Except maybe the MtGox sales but that would be corrected within a day or two

Don't be so quick to dismiss the effect that the mtgox coins could have on the market.  Last time I looked the discussion was that about 130,000 BTC were going to hit the market once the coins are distributed.  After April we're looking at 450 BTC per day being added to the system.  That's like damn near dumping a year's worth (289 days) of BTC supply on the market overnight.
I thought it was BTC worth $130 million.
130K btc is huge,  that's like almost $6Billion
But according to what I read the stipulated deadline is October and not all funds would be paid this year.

It's definitely more than $130 million.  I had thought the number was closer to 200K BTC, but the number being kicked around in chats outside this forum is 130,000 BTC, so that's what I mentioned.  You're right that only the early payout recipients will be paid soon, but I believe that makes up a large amount of the BTC being paid out.  It's a massive amount of BTC and I would be shocked if it didn't cause a noticeable decline on the market, but who knows...  Maybe enough people have gone short or are awaiting on the sidelines to balance it out, but like I said, I'd be shocked.  That's a huge number.
864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Frame Governnance Airdrop on: February 07, 2024, 10:53:49 PM
Like @Albon, I didn't qualify for the chapter 1, but I do have friends that are very much eligible. However, it's no biggy because it's not every airdrop that I'd qualify for and my time is going to come real soon. I didn't qualify because I stayed off ethereum Mainnet for years and only returned to using Mainnet recently due to the EigenLayer reopening of restaking campaign and increased cap of up to 500K + new LSTs.

I'm just learning about this EigenLayer app and I must say that it seems to be the most dangerous thing I've seen in crypto in a long time.  Granted, users will all eventually be forced to use this technology when staking, which means eventually all altcoins that offer staking will be in the same basket.  When some big boy decides the value proposition has run it's course, they will dump on everyone causing a chain reaction that takes down multiple chains instead of just one.  So while this isn't a ponzi, it most definitely acts like one and the participants will feel the pain together as one when new users stop tossing money into the fire.
865  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 07, 2024, 10:49:07 PM
Looks like the trades may be heating up as we approach the deadline.  The first major trade I've heard so far is the Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers.  This trade is apparently not official yet, but expected to be before the trade deadline.  The Trail Blazers are giving up Jerami Grant for Harrison Barnes, Trey Lyles, and a pick.  I think this is good for both teams.  The Kings get younger and more talented, Portland gets to dump salary after the season and pick up another draft pick.  It makes sense for both teams.  The big loser I guess is Harrison Barnes, who might get bought out at the end of the year and find himself out of the NBA.
866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Struggle now to invest in Bitcoin for a bright future. on: February 07, 2024, 10:10:18 PM
This reminds me of a saying by Dave Ramsey, who is a writer that tries to help people get ahead financially.  His famous quote is that people need to, "live like no one else now, so you can live like no one else later."  Basically saying that you shouldn't be keeping up with the Jones family or buying unnecessary expensive sneakers or other flashy stuff.  You should live frugal now and save money while investing in the hopes that someday you can live off dividends and buy whatever you want.  I'm not sure he'd say to invest everything into Bitcoin, but as many of folks say, it isn't about what you make, it's about what you spend or maybe more importantly, what you spend it on.

Oh, well there's mega cups of coffee for wakefulness but there's so much more to it.

I'm sure there's more to it.  Like with cigarettes, I sometimes see people out smoking or drinking their morning coffee and just taking in their surroundings.  I like that part of it.  I guess I'm a weirdo, but I think that prolonged use of anything causes your body to stop providing certain things as it adapts.  Coffee drinkers wake up useless without their coffee for example while others don't.  Along that same line of thinking, people who use chapstick always seem to have chapped lips...  I don't want to be always tired without an upper like coffee, whereas with downers like weed, your body has to fight to stay "up" which I think is better than it fighting to stay down.  Perhaps a downright looney bin take on substances, but it's mine.
868  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius collection for sale... on: February 07, 2024, 09:48:13 PM
Yup, all brass. Will try get some pics...

That's why I clicked.  Not because I think you don't have them or anything.  I just wanted to see some Casascius Coin pr0n.

I can't provide too much guidance on the 5 BTC Casascius coin as I have never owned one, but I did sell a brass 1/2 BTC Casascius coin not all that long ago for 0.76 BTC (but there was another coin involved as well so you can say 0.74 BTC as a more accurate price).  That was my offer I couldn't refuse.  I hope that helps guide you on what you may be able to get for these.  Although with so many at once it might be a challenge if you're looking for a quick sale.
869  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you beleive in the concept of "Luck"? on: February 07, 2024, 09:37:16 PM
Luck the way most people use it is nonsense.  For example, "you got lucky."  People use luck as if it was this thing that comes to certain people and can influence outcomes.  It is not that at all, but rather the expression of falling on the lower side of the odds on an event.  This is really obvious with Bitcoin mining difficulty.  They have the "luck" measurement, which determines the time when a block should be found on average.  If you beat this average you are lucky, if you don't, you are unlucky.  It just means over or underperforming expectations basically.  So if someone calls you lucky, they are expressing that you beat the expected outcome.  Whether that expectation was a low bar or not can usually determine how a person feels about you.  Mostly though, luck is used by losers to explain why other people have had success where they have not, so I try to avoid using that work to describe people's outcomes.
870  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 07, 2024, 09:29:10 PM
Wait... you've never had a sip of coffee?  I thought it was a "my body is a temple" thing but now I'm perplexed.

No, I've never had a sip of coffee.  Not because my body is a temple, but because I've just never felt the need.  I see people wake up and say they can't function until they've had their coffee.  That's enough for me to not want to ever get on that train.  I wake up ready for anything.  Smiley

My body is less like a temple and more like a monster truck.  I'm more of a live fast die young sort of fella.  I don't lift weights for my health, I do it to make the ride in the truck more fun.

A more on topic post...  It appears like we've been stuck in a trading range for 3 months now.  With this latest change of direction I think we're likely to see a retest around the $48K range.  If that breaks, there's really just one more major level at $52K to smash through before a straight run to the all time high.  We're closer to new highs than people think right now, but a lot of selling is coming in the pipeline that will delay the ride.
871  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 07, 2024, 09:13:26 PM
I have done this before, the secret here as you have said is to break it down like this,

10 pushup x 10 times.

So what I did is that I will time it out, like

7:00 am upon waking up, do 10 pushups, then maybe next at
10:00 another 10..

and so on until you make 10 per day = 100. Of course you will feel pain and that's what we call Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), but as you get used to it and become stronger, then it will be easy and make you need to target more, like 150 pushup.

I've been mostly doing 5 sets of 20, but have gone 10 and 30 a few times.  I'm looking forward to the day I can do 100 at once, perhaps by the halving.  We'll see...

I hope everyone is also keeping track of your push-ups (I'm currently at 540 which will be 560 by the time you read this).  It would be cool to list a total number of push-ups done by the community in this thread once we hit $100,000.  Also, don't be ashamed if you can only do 10 a day to start, or even if you have to do modified ones.  Get after it!  I'd love nothing more than to hear about someone who started this challenge doing modified push-ups only to end it with 100 real push-ups a day by the end.
872  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 07, 2024, 08:57:15 PM
Sounds like too much tobacco!
I never had anxiety problems, even from THC-heavy (+10%) weed as long as i vaped it (and that are quite some years now).
However, when i was smoking it with tobacco in my younger years, i experienced lots of anxiety.

Occasionally, there are some studies that oerate on basis of pure substance use, and some are cross-comparable to surveys, where most participants are smoking the weed, where you can directly calculate the much lower addiction potential and much safer side-effect profile of "purified" cannabis usage. I did this in the past, my personal experience also confirms the result and numbers ususally don't lie.

Tobacco? What's that got to do with it?

There's no indication that tobacco was involved in any of the studies being discussed here. I was talking about the ratio of cannabidiol (a natural anti-psychotic) to THC in cannabis, nothing to do with tobacco.

Also 10% THC is not THC-heavy by today's standards. Many if not most high-THC strains are now over 20% THC. It's when the CBD levels are <5% that anxiety becomes a problem.

You didn't mention what the CBD levels were in your "THC-heavy (+10%) weed". A nice 10% CBD/10% THC balance shouldn't create any anxiety.

Hold on, dude!
I didn't doubt or question the importance of the role of the THC/CBD ratio, nor would i ever do.
Also, 10%+ includes any figure above, even 24% (which was the "strongest" i personally tried, yet).
As a matter of fact, you're completely right regarding the balance of those two cannbinoids, just to make that clear.
But: Alcaloids contained in tobacco (and possibly additives) contribute to interdependent effects with cannabinoids.

However, the study isn't linked from the article, but i may quote this part:
Quote
“They might have been having some kind of mental health concerns, were feeling quite depressed and also smoking cannabis very regularly. None of these people had an emergency room visit for anxiety when they first showed up,” he said.

And cannabis is commonly smoked mixed with tobacco, innit?
I didn't see any hint that mixed use consumers were excluded in the study. I can tell you from the plenty of studies i have read so far: Usually they are not. The wording "Cannabis use" usually doesn't differ between smoking, eating, pure or mixed, extracted by using oil, alcohol or gas. But it makes a difference. It has to, it is simply biochemistry at work here.

Again: No offense regarding the effects of cannabinoid balance, which is a proven fact, but when the media (and also studies) are pointing out "cannabis use", they don't mean pure cannabis. That's a major flaw to the disadvantage of that magic present of nature and how it is percieved by the public and also medical realm. I can't believe that "scientists" are working at such a level of imprecision.
And again: I was diagnosed for panic attacks (social anxiety), which mysteriously disappeared soon after i quit smoking tobacco. Nicotine is a neurotoxin. Add this up with "smoking cannabis very regularly" from the quoted part of the article. Click?

 Wink

I avoid tobacco at all costs but there are people who only smoke blunts rolled in tobacco leaves.  It was more popular 20 years ago before the invention of the "pre-roll" that you see nowadays, but old habits die hard for some folks.

As far as the THC% discussion...  It would be hard to find a strain with lower than 20% THC in my area and strains containing as high as 35% are common for the right price.  They even have "infused" pre-rolls now that I've seen with 45% THC content for as low as $6 a piece...  Times are changing...

My $0.02 on the anxiety and CBD argument...  There are more than 420 chemicals in cannabis and more than 50 of them are cannabinoids.  I believe it would be foolish to try and break down anxiety to only the ratio of THC/CBD.  Tip of the iceberg friends.  This is why you shouldn't judge cannabis by the THC or the CBD content and instead by the feeling YOU get from it, as all people are also different.  Longtime Humboldt County farmers who have worked on their strains for generations absolutely HATE that people boil their decision on what to purchase down to the THC content only.  It's just a piece of the equation.  People used to obsess about Indica vs Sativa, now they talk about different levels of the 4 major cannabinoids that have been studied: d9THC, CBD, d8THC and cannabinol.  In time the levels of these 4 cannabinoids used to determine the effects of cannabis will be expanded to 50+ and there will be a rating system with charts and things.  For now, it's just easiest to look at THC content, but don't fool yourself into thinking that's an accurate reflection of the differences in strains.  The opinion of a smoker on a strain is far superior than the determination of a lab, for now.  My opinion: Gorilla Glue is the best strain regardless of what lab tests say about percentages or ratios of different crops.  Smiley

Oh ya... BITCOIN IS BACK ABOVE $44,000!  The post ETF profit taking appears to be in the rearview.

Here's my parlay pick for the day.  Not the greatest odds for a 4-game multi-bet but I like my odds with these teams.  Nothing too shocking here.  Maybe the Pelicans might be able to surprise the Clippers, but we'll see.  Nothing too special about today.  Just picking the games that should be slam dunks (see what I did there).

874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 07, 2024, 08:30:06 PM
Doc Rivers is still riding that Celtics title, with 3 hall of famers, maybe even four if Rondo gets there, seems a little bit tough for him to be HOF to be fair, but it looked like he would be. I think it is clear that Celtics team was stacked and of course they did alright. With a very on fire Ray Allen (who won with Lebron later on as well) KG and Pierce, it is really obvious that they would win, they could have lost as well but the difference maker wasn't Doc.

Ever since that year, he has been going from team to team around the league and failing, he has never won anything ever, the way he handled Sixers job was good enough for me to consider him not a great coach to be fair, and I think it has to be something that would not be easy.

Yep, looks like Doc got exposed. He wasn't really the difference maker on the Celtics team.
Maybe if someone else's coached that Celtic team better than Doc, they could've won more than just 1 championship.

I think we all sort of knew that already.  The underperformance he presided over in Los Angeles as his Lob City Clippers failed to make any meaningful runs in the playoffs still is shocking to me.  How he managed to fail so badly with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Jamal Crawford is still a mystery to me.  Those guys should have easily been able to win a title, or at least made it to the Western Conference Finals every year.  He'll never have a better team than that, so I'm doubtful he'll be back coaching in the Finals ever again.
875  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Alter Ego In Gambling on: February 07, 2024, 06:28:38 PM
I’ve never considering using an alter ego while gambling. It seems like disassociating yourself at a time when you’re risking money may not be the greatest idea, but if your alter ego is a gambling master then maybe it works out. Seeing other people talk about their alter egos makes me think I need to have one. Brainstorming…

As a casual UFC fan, I’m just waiting for UFC 300. I suspect it will be the biggest UFC event of all time with no expense spared and maybe some assistance from the Las Vegas Sphere as Dana promised a big viewing experience coming to the UFC later this year. Everything else until then is just an appetizer.
877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Rich or poor gambler, who should risk more? on: February 07, 2024, 06:24:55 PM
I’d say being rich or poor isn’t the determining factor of how much a person should bet on an event. I think it’s more about boredom and who needs to feel alive more. In the end gambling is entertainment, so I might even say that the rich man likely has many forms of entertainment available while the poor man may not, leading him to need gambling entertainment more than the rich man.
878  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever introduced an elder gambler to online betting? on: February 07, 2024, 06:22:54 PM
I have not. I’ve thought about letting my Dad play some slots or something while we’re together, but I really can’t see that going any way but poorly, so I refrain. It isn’t that I don’t think older people are capable of responsibly gambling online. It is just that I’m not sure if people need to be introduced to things they aren’t used to that could cause them trouble.
879  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2024 NBA Season on: February 07, 2024, 06:21:00 PM
I'm thinking of betting on the Bucks tomorrow. Perhaps they were able to rest after that loss to the Jazz, it was a disappointing loss because they ran out of gas in the 4th quarter, so Giannis will find a way to bounce back and get a win.
Moneyline,
Suns - 1.62
Bucks - 2.36

That's a good one for you. It's rare to see Bucks as underdog like that with Giannis playing.
They were the underdog because they have been struggling recently, and much worst is that Lillard wasn't playing that game. The line was +6, it doesn't matter as they still lose. Suns on the roll, I lose my bet.

I don't see anyone from the Suns team can stop Giannis in the paint, for the Suns to win, they need to keep their 3 point shooting at a high level which I believe the Bucks knows how to limit them on that area.
Are the Bucks that good at defending now? They are probably just at the same level on defense so it will come down to scoring more. I bet both teams will score at least 110 points.

Giannis was unstoppable still but he could not get some support from his teammates, sometimes he'll get doubled or even triple, so he needs to pass the ball but the receiver can't shoot it. And this one was also a problem.

Khris Middleton injury update: Bucks star leaves loss to Suns on crutches and in walking boot

This is the first game where I felt like things might be coming together for the Suns. I didn’t expect them to beat the Bucks but they seemed to dominate even though the Bucks were hurting a bit. The loss of
Middleton is a big one. I hope he’s back to 100% by playoff time. I haven’t heard the results of his injury yet but he’s got some time to recover.
880  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100 Push-Ups A Day Until Bitcoin Is $100K Challenge on: February 07, 2024, 06:15:42 PM
Too old for 100 pushups a day but I will plank for more than 100 seconds every day starting today.

Planking is no joke. I think I’d be more sore planking for 100 seconds than doing 100 push-ups. That always put such a strain on my shoulders. I probably don’t do them right.

I hit 500 total as of yesterday. About to get going on today’s with a little bit of a late start. Glad to see so many others taking notice and joining in with their own activities. How long I remember to keep this up, we will see.
