my credit card.  while you all debate whether this is a  scam, I'm willing to find out with 100% certainty. and it won't cost me anything.
like i said, i hope it's not, but if it is, i'm happy to expose it with concrete proof for the mining community

What? have you dealt with paypal b4? I have and trust me, you will have headache.

They can ship you a rock and that closes the deal.

If someone was offering 22nm SASIC it might be a bit more plausible.

lol. And somehow beat both Xilinx and Intel to 22nm?

It's a scam.

Hey, if it's real I'll order one.  I appreciate the early adopters testing the waters by ordering.  Their reward is $100 off the product's final price if it is real ($499 vs $599), or chargebacks through PayPal if it isn't.

Do not overestimate the chargeback. Shouldnt the scammer think of that ahead of you?

Sometimes, you dont need risk your money to find out. Common sense comes to play.

The seller can send you a bogus product and CC cant charge back. Paypal dont guarantee the merchant's advertisement. As long as you receive the product, the transaction has been done.

Imaging buy a product from a local store without return policy, can your CC do a chargeback? No... they will tell you to becareful next time.

Yes.

Why dont you try it.

Regarding the local shop example, its not Yes for me So tell me, what exactly was your situation?

I can image ppl will use charge back every time they're not happy with something. Certainly not true.

Ok, so my initial research shows that this may be legit. Numbers are very possible, and  multiple sources say they have heard of butterfly labs in regards to other products. So dont bash it yet. But buyer beware.

HAHA, poor guys. If they are legit you would likely find whoever does there SEO was using some cheap ass bot to slap out links....

And while I am having a hard time buying the legitimacy of this myself. This is an awfully interesting statement to include in their FAQs for a scam;

  5. Do your products fall under US encryption export control classification?
Yes, the BitForce SHA256 processor is properly classified under the US Bureau of Industry and Security export control.  Our export control restriction prohibits the export of our products to AT designated countries as specified by the US Department of Commerce.  If you need clarification on your ability to purchase our products, please contact us for review.

Anyone close to Kansas City want to go take a tour and ask for a demo? ;p

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

It's not quite that bad, but I've had some trouble with paypal returning my $ the past too. I recommend reviewing the chargeback policy early if you haven't done it already: https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=security/chargeback_guide

I'm throwing my vote that it's a scam too.

I think it's rather ironic that people are discussing the benefits of being able to issue a chargeback against a merchant, on a bitcoin forum.  One of bitcoin's much touted features is the impossibility of chargebacks from customers who have been ripped off.

Imagine if Butterfly Labs required payment in bitcoins.  No one would ever touch it.

I won't be calling them scams, need to give them the benefit of the doubt.  But I certainly do not have the $500 to "test" out if it is scam or not Smiley .

well, i am the canary in the mine... LOL

i don't know why there are all these post about problems with chargeback, paypal issues etc... etc...

i don't have any problems calling my card and reversing a charge.  "product not as advertised"
additionally, i will videotape opening a package and if i don't get what i ordered, they will also have to deal with post office and mail fraud.

i don't see what the big deal is here with me trying to prove whether it's a scam or not.

i read lots of post where ppl claim something is a scam, but very few show hard evidence.

so, i'm getting this evidence in this case.
