They behave like one-man armies because they have no other choice but to give the ball to Bale or Ronaldo and hope for them to score. They do it because at times it is their best bet. But your statement suggests that this strategy is superior to something else and this is problematic. Because if Wales had didn't only have one Bale, but five Bales, the team would be tremendously stronger using all five Bales instead of the one real Bale.

These one-man shows can work but with every next round they can get to, the air gets thinner and thinner because those teams have five or six or seven or even eleven top players and that's when the one-man show usually ends.

Well.. I said that such teams can be effective at times. I am not claiming that they are better than well balanced teams such as Argentina or France. Obviously Wales with a few quality players apart from Bale and Norway with a few good players other than Erling Håland/Martin Ødegaard would be more consistent. But again, at times one-man armies can surprise more balanced teams. Also, I would rather agree with the last line of your post. As the competition moves to knockout phase, it gets progressively more difficult for these teams.

Ok I got you, but you could also see it the other way around. Do you remember when Greece won the European Championship in 2004? That was absolutely no one-man show and it was rather a tremendous collective defensive effort. They have had some players that were a bit better than the others, but all in all it was about the collective effort and they made the miracle happen and beat their opponents as they didn't concede a single goal in the whole knockout round and at maximum scored 1 goal themselves. There are different ways but I agree that the chance for Norway for example, to make it to a final round of a tournament is mostly about Haaland. He can pull off a one-man show indeed, but he does have at least players like Odegaard around him. If you take the very weak teams, I doubt that Luxembourg would make it very far if they had a Ronaldo in their team.

Still we can't say that Garcia's failure is the fault of Napoli's performance. In fact, last season Napoli won the title with a great performance, so our expectations from Napoli this season are very high. But just because Napoli won the title last season, it cannot be said that Napoli will win the title this season too. Inter Milan, Juventus and AC Milan have stronger squads than Napoli. And they have performed well this season. And so naturally Napoli fell behind. I consider it a typical Napoli performance.
Garcia needs more time to stabilize the team. Garcia did not get a chance to build the squad to his liking. I'd say Garcia, given enough time and opportunities, can bring stability to Napoli's performance. However, Napoli are not favorites for this season's title.
You may have a point about giving Garcia time but will the board and fabs be willing to exercise much patience with him? Don't you think that was the main reason behind Luciano Spalletti throwing in the towel after winning the Scudetto last season?
I think when the board makes the analysis what counts is whether Napoli is without chances and plays bad soccer, but do they really? If I see this more or less correctly, Napoli has problems with using their chances and scoring goals at the moment. It is also true that they are not as dominant and as determined last season. But I am not sure if the board is convinced that changing the coach would also change their situation. This is what they will be thinking about, similar to the problem that Manchester United has. Will changing the coach also improve the team?

I somewhat agree with you. Napoli's performance is slightly weaker than last season. But their performance is very weak? I don't think so. Napoli have lost only two matches out of 8 matches. Although they lost against Madrid in the Champions League match, they won the match 3–2. Not too many poor performances from Napoli. And so changing coaches cannot be a solution now. No one can guarantee that Napoli's performance will not deteriorate further if a new coach is appointed. That's why I think the Napoli management should trust Garcia. And he should be given more opportunities. It would not be the right decision to change coaches so quickly.

That game was damn close between Napoli and Real Madrid and it would only be fair to say that Napoli could have won the game as well. They have had more shots on target and were equal in all other statistics. They even had a 90% passing accuracy against an opponent like Real Madrid. One thing that is quite different from last season is the results. Their game isn't that much weaker although I have to say that sometimes the game isn't as determined as it was last season. They do struggle in some moments during the game while last season they often had full control over the game. But the season is still very young and I would not exclude them from the favorites for the title.

The first of the matches I'm looking forward to next match week will be Nice vs Marseille. Nice have made a good start to the season and are undefeated in 8 games. I think they can be one of the title contenders while doing so well. A possible win against Marseille could give them more confidence. Of course, they are behind teams like PSG and Monaco in terms of scoring goals, but I would like to underline that they are the only team without a defeat yet. Since Marseille will also focus on European games, it seems likely that Nice will win this match.
Im still doubting marseille to win the game this time. It's caused by this team is not yet stable after marseille has been recruiting a new coach to handle the club. Marseille was winning in the last match with great scores but it's not yet convincing me to pick it.
Nice's performance is still very consistent at this moment and it's placed at the second place. Nice will have more winning probability compared with marseille.
I think that we will see a tough game between both of clubs. I personally prefer to see nice to win the game caused by i may pick ig . Nice is performing very nice this time.
I have no doubt if this club will able to win against marseille which is not yet consistent at this moment.
Nice this season is really impressive. Meanwhile, yes Marseille are still not showing any signs of improving their performance, although their last match won but that match against mediocre team. Based on the head to head between Nice vs Marseille, the both have been quite equal in the last five matches. But this season Nice has been very consistent and especially that match will be held at Nice, and I think it is very likely that Nice will win.
Interestingly, the bookies gives quite generous odds for Nice. Currently the odds for this match are Nice @2.37, Draw @3.20, and Marseille @2.90.

I have rarely seen a team that is so efficient with their goals and also with the ratio of goals scored and goals conceded. They have the best defense of the top teams and the worst offense of the top teams and yet they are second in Ligue 1. This is all about the defense for them and it shows that if they score, they are able to maintain the lead over the full 90 minutes and not throw away any of those games. It is an impressive achievement because after all they don't need to care whether they have the weakest offense. All that matters is the number of points they are able to collect and this is looking good for them so far.

If Dortmund had been superb last season, we would now still be celebrating the fact that Dortmund has broken Bayern Munich's title winning streak. The problem was that Dortmund was not superb. They have had too many problems against weaker teams and dropped points when nobody could ever think of them dropping points. When it was towards the end of the season they tied gams against Bochum and Stuttgart, both teams fighting hard to avoid relegation. Needless to say that if they won one of those games, they would have been the title winner of that season. A superb team doesn't tie a game against two teams from the relegation zone.
Borrusia Dortmund is competitive and have strength to compete with their rivals for the league title. Dortmund shocked everyone when they failed to lift Bundesliga title when everyone assumed they've won the league. Giving up at critical time, I believed they have no pressing concerns during these moments, they were carried away by excitement and Edin Terzic was reluctant with his dealings among his players. It was hugh dissapointment for Dortmund and they would lived to regret it. Perhaps the future holds desirable results which can be earned by hardwork and consistency in games.

That is what Bundesliga fans have been thinking for a decade now, that Dortmund is strong enough to compete with Bayern Munich, but the truth is that Bayern Munich won 11 titles in a row. That doesn't quite speak in favor of Dortmund's competitiveness in the Bundesliga. Bayern can count on winning the title even when they show signs of weakness and that is bad because those are the moments that Dortmund should exploit, but they don't.

Chelsea - Arsenal could be an interesting game. Of course on paper Arsenal are much closer side to be victorious in this game. However Chelsea won their last two games in the league which should be some help for them to motivate themselves better for the Arsenal game. Besides this game is going to be played in Stamford Bridge as well.

Arsenal haven't been losing to Chelsea away in the league for like 5 years though. This psychological advantage might also put Arsenal in a good place for this game. Arsenal look even better than the previous season right now. They beat Manchester City recently you know. For now I think they will beat Chelsea here too.
Man City can always beat Arsenal but then last week Arsenal managed to beat Man City. In my opinion, the same thing could happen in the Chelsea vs Arsenal match. That is, Arsenal can always beat Chelsea, but it could be that in the next match it will be Chelsea who can beat Arsenal. Although statistically I also agree that Arsenal will actually be much more favored. Chelsea have not found their best performance because Chelsea actually does not have a mainstay striker at the moment. Their consistency is also questionable. So it is not surprising that Arsenal will be favored by many people.

If Chelsea really beats Arsenal in the next game, I think it could finally be the beginning of something good for Chelsea. They have had a good game away with a 4-1 win and if they can continue beating Arsenal in the next one, that could be a sign of recovery for the club. Although it would be way too early to say that problems have been solved and things have been fundamentally changed, but it would be an important sign to the players themselves but also to everyone who is still cheering for the club. Most of the other games on the next matchday are not that exciting I think.
826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: October 10, 2023, 07:24:09 PM

Calling this a generous coefficient is a bit too much I think, but yes this is also owed to the fact that Dortmund is quite inconsistent at times. They have had some good results now for a while, but all too often they fall back into their weak game again and also make massive individual mistakes. As this will be punished by Bayern more than by any other team, I think the odds are about fair. Frankly, if I had to place a bet, I would probably go with a tiny bet on a Dortmund win although history proves me also wrong I think. I can't remember when Dortmund won their last game against Bayern in Munich.

I checked and Dortmund won their last game in 2018 at home against them. And it was in April 2014 when Dortmund won their last game in Munich 3-0. Ok, my hypothetical bet would likely fail Wink but that is why the odds are the way they are.
Dortmund last season was superb they did great and almost won the league but this season they're not very consistent and could kill your expectations when you bet on them to win, it mostly ends with a draw, if not they would had been in the 1st position currently cause they're among one of the 3 teams that's still unbeaten, well their performance is not very bad and there's still hope for them to win the title this season cause they're currently in 4th place and sharing same points with Bayern Munich, with just 2 points behind Leverkusen who are the league leaders.

The match between Dortmund and Bayern Munich would definitely be in favour of Bayern Munich even though they're sharing same points currently, Bayern Munich got a better squad and are more stronger and if you judge from the previous meetings 2018 is in a very long time and I don't think Dortmund would be able to win them.

Messi will definitely play, he is not going to be all that old when he plays on the WC, the only one I wonder would be Ronaldo, I am sure that he will want to play and that looks like a possibility as well, he gained some more shape at Saudi league because he is constantly playing and training, not like when he was at United on his last season, for a summer he did nothing and then when he came back he didn't get proper minutes neither.

However, he will be around 40 years old if I am not mistaken and not like Portugal lacks any players, they could easily replace a 40 year old Ronaldo, don't get me wrong he was their best player ever in their entire history, but that doesn't mean that you are not going to get Ronaldo dropping with age, so maybe he may miss it.

But what differentiates them is that Messi is getting along great with his teammates and they would want him to be on board for the World Cup. The team and the fans would want it even if he gets a little worse than he currently still is. Ronaldo isn't all that popular within the team, but they can't argue against him because he is still scoring most of the time. I think that Ronaldo's nomination will depend on whether or not he can maintain a high level of scorer points whereas Messi will be nominated no matter what unless he himself decides to retreat from the Argentinian national team. Not sure if you guys agree but you get my point I hope.

But such a thing is unlikely to happen and even seems unlikely to happen because if in the end Mbappe wants to go to Arabia it will not be possible for him to reject the 7-fold salary last season offered by one of the SPL clubs.
He is aware that what he is after is not big money because in the end in Europe he also has a high salary so that when the exposure given in Europe is higher than Asia then surely Mbappe will prioritize offers from Europe that provide greater exposure. Money from Arab clubs is indeed very large but when making that as a goal then I think this will not last long especially when he is still very young to join the SPL club.
Moving to the SPL is not even in Mbappé agenda currently and even though they come running to him with a more better offer I don't think he'll still accept a move over there, cause he's still young and has a lot to achieve at the European league moreover the only benefit he'll get from the Saudi Pro League is the financial benefits that comes with a move there, considering a move there wouldn't be very beneficial to his footballing career.

The league is still developing and it not very competitive as the European league, even have fewer viewers, however football is not all about money he's still needs to achieve other titles and trophies like the UCL trophy and Ballon D'or title which he'll never be able to achieve if he moves over to the SPL, well I believe they'll still try to tempt him with a better offer in the next window but I doubt if Mbappe would consider a move there.

I wish that you are right about Mbappe because he already wasted large parts of his career at PSG and I am sure that Mbappe himself never thought he would be playing for PSG for so long, but what made him play for them? A lot of money, unbelievable amounts of money. This is also the reason why I would never say that it is impossible that Mbappe will go to Saudi Arabia. He is a mercenary and what will he do when a club from Saudi Arabia says that they will pay him 3 billion for 10 years? Are you sure that he would turn down the offer and instead go to a club in Europe? I hope he will play in Europe, but money could change his mind once again.
830  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If we lose in gambling, what do we need to do? on: October 10, 2023, 11:48:56 AM
what should we do if we have lost a lot of money on gambling? Do we keep gambling to win so we can cover up previous losses? or stop and work normally and leave gambling? Or do you have other suggestions?
Having losses and continuously playing for the reason you want to recover your money are certainly not right and we all know that. However many gamblers can't refrain themselves, that's a fact. Well, some of us are still playing despite of losses but still able to play in moderation. Why? Because our main desire is to have fun.

But this is not the case if your intention (that's why you're playing) is to double your money. Just quit, that's the right thing to do for gamblers who are looking for profit. Find a decent job and forget about gambling because instead of gaining you'll only lose your money if you have no discipline.

The desire for recovery is normal and I know it shouldn't be what drives us to keep playing, but frankly speaking isn't it what the poker gurus who play high stakes also do? I remember when I watched some sessions on Pokerstars between those high rollers in cash game, sometimes one guy was down a million and also didn't stop playing. Of course it was about making it back sometimes. I think nobody is free of this thought process that when they lost money, the goal is to make it back. The problem with it is that decisions become less rational often times and the hope for luck dominates.
831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: October 10, 2023, 11:01:32 AM
It is quite fair to assume that Bayer Leverkusen may be a more dangerous opponent because Dortmund can turn on clown mode at any moment and lose points where no one could have predicted. Already now Bayer is rated better than Dortmund (but still too far from Bayern):

Fc Bayern Munich 1.25

Bayer 04 Leverkusen 7.50

Borussia Dortmund 11.00

It's funny that Bayer and Bayern have the same goal difference: 23-6

It is the classic odds by bookmakers for Bayern Munich. I will give them that as well because they are really the favourite for the league title by far. Their being at the third position now doesn't change anything for them. They are stronger than last season and the Kane transfer has been very beneficial.

Leverkusen and Stuttgart are doing really well on one hand maybe. But I would expect Stuttgart not to last very long. However hopefully Leverkusen can manage to stay in this race until the final moments. If Dortmund did it with a worse level of performance Leverkusen deserve to do this more than them with this game now.

Yep. It is quite difficult to expect other quotes when a team becomes champion 11 times in a row. If you look at it from this point of view, 1.25 can even be called a generous coefficient. However, if things continue the same way for Bayern, then I will begin to doubt them. They concede a lot of goals (in the Bundesliga this is not the case, but in the season on average yes) and so far their results are very far from the expected dominance.
As for Stuttgart, they have no chance in the long term, but it will be interesting how long they can stay at the top. Bayer is naturally the more serious contender.

Calling this a generous coefficient is a bit too much I think, but yes this is also owed to the fact that Dortmund is quite inconsistent at times. They have had some good results now for a while, but all too often they fall back into their weak game again and also make massive individual mistakes. This draw was not what we expected. But I still like the game shown by Al-Nassr in this match.
For example, the first goal was scored in the 3rd minute. I think at that time the Al-Nassr front players really did it easily. And Cristiano Ronaldo made a pass with very classy skill to M. Brozović and then M. Brozović gave a pass calmly to Otávio and Otavio used it well so it became a goal.
And I think the Al-Nassr players have a really good bond. They are not selfish.

But Abha was really lucky in this match. And their luck was also obtained because they worked hard without giving up until the last second of the match. So they were able to equalize in the final minute.

Yes, the skills shown by the Al Nassr players were very good, because I also saw their calmness in playing the ball, and as the host Al Nassr was very good because after only 2 minutes of the match Otavio managed to score a goal and in the 28th minute Talisca finally scored a goal for Al Nassr very well.

However, Abha's players also showed a good performance and I think Abha was also quite strong, that's why they managed to equalize the match at 2-2.
but if no one takes the penalty kick from the Abha player I think Al Nassr will win the match with a satisfying result, but honestly this is a tense match. and this is proof that Abha players are also very strong.
Abha did put up quite a surprising resistance in that match. Even though Abha's ranking in the standings is really very different from Al-Nassr, in reality they are able to make Al-Nassr difficult.
In fact, the number of shots on target that Abha and Al-Nassr had in that match was also the same, namely 6 shots on target.

But a draw seems fair enough for the match. But I imagine that if Al-Nassr wins that match and gets 3 points then of course now Al-Nassr will be in a better ranking, namely at 2nd place. But being at 3rd place is also quite good. It's just that the points Al-Nassr currently has are the same as Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli. Which makes everything possible in the next match. changes in the standings will really become more fierce.

But they should not be able to do that as they have no Ronaldo on their team and also no Mane. It is not meant to disrespect Abha, but it is known that the quality in the team from Al-Nassr should easily outplay that from Abha and if it's not possible on a day, then there are issues within the Al-Nassr team. They score less than 2 goals on average per game and now they scored 2 goals against Al-Nassr away from home. That sometimes happens when a team relies to much on their offensive game and hopes for 5 goals when they concede 4 goals. On any day when Ronaldo misses his chances, the game could be tied or lost. Doesn't sound like the ideal approach.

The top of the table is still very close and Girona keeps on delivering these great performances. They were promoted into La Liga just two years ago and finished the last season as 10th and as it looks now they are ready to take the next step and make further progress. This looks very solid and stable so far, no real signs of weaknesses and no crack in their outstanding shape which they have been showing for weeks now. I think the first goal for them is to play like this until the season halftime and then make a first evaluation and set their goals. With 22 points won already it is hard to imagine how they could still be dealing with the relegation zone at some point.

Losing to Real Madrid, I felt they would start dropping points but they have decided to make a good show of the chance they have. They won against Cadiz which showed they meant business and want to stay longer than we have predicted.
I will wait untill halfway of the season before I can judge or give a good conclusion.

Since Lewandoski and some players would be absent, Barcelona is likely to play a first half draw or we shall witness less goals scored in the first half. More like it was against Porto during the Champions League.

I didn't expect Girona to start dropping points when they lost against Real Madrid because of the way they played against Real Madrid. That wasn't a team which is about to collapse, and the result was really more one-sided than the game really was. Girona had more ball possession and about the same number of shots, but not surprisingly Real Madrid succeeded more often in making their way through the defense and into the dangerzone in the box. It was tough for Girona to defend Vinicius Junior and Bellingham at the same time and they had some great moves, but still the result could have been closer than that.

It's a shame that Lens failed to win at home in the match against Lille last night and made them only draw 1-1. In fact, Lens have a full chance of winning, especially since they are the hosts and their previous victory against Arsenal in the Champions League or the previous week when they beat Strasbourg is expected to increase their confidence in being able to win again.

But unfortunately it didn't go quite smoothly because after all the opponent was Lille and from the start this was a match that was quite balanced in terms of squad depth. Even so, at least Lens can still secure one point to continue advancing to a better position and for Lille they have to be thrown to 7th place in the standings after only managing to get one point in this match.

Lens hasn't found their perfect rhythm yet. They have had this amazing game in the Champions League, but they are still in the midst of some issues to get back their consistency from last season. I like the team because they are the typical underdog that can surprise the big teams, which is something I like a lot in sports. I thought when they had their victory over Arsenal that this could be the beginning of a great phase for this season, but it didn't last very long. It's often surprising how much volatility there can be for a team when one week they can beat Arsenal and the next week everything is different again.
It's like Lens has lost its soul and is still unable to stabilize in Ligue 1, but I think they will still try not to be relegated this season. From the start, Lens was an underdog team and perhaps since last season their name has been worth considering because they have succeeded in becoming PSG's competitors in the top flight. But they cannot maintain these results again this season and the results can be as we see now, they are having a hard time winning and most of the time at the start of the season they have suffered too many defeats. This makes their position unsafe and even so it doesn't change the fact that they are still a strong team this season but they do need more time this time to recover.

That sounds very drastic to be honest. I don't think they lost their soul as that would mean other teams who are struggling at the beginning of a season also immediately lost their soul. It would surprise me if Lens has to fight against the relegation zone. I expect them to stabilize with their performances and more importantly with their results and then at least find their position in the midfield of the table. They also have the Champions League to play and instead of being a burden, I think it will help them raise their game to the next level and also raise their level in Ligue 1 accordingly. The bad start doesn't mean this season has to end in a catastrophe for them, but changes should happen rather sooner than later of course.

We've passed Week 9 in the Arab League and there have been changes in the standings, in the top 4 in particular. Ittihad got their second defeat in week 9 and that result cost them their place as at the same time Al Nassr got 1 point as they also got a draw. But that was enough to make Al Nassr shift the position occupied by Ittihad before, yes even though it was only different in goal productivity.
Apart from all that, I was a little surprised by what Al Nassr achieved this week because they could only draw against a club that was actually not strong and fairly weak.
Football, you play with our feelings so much! Ittihad is still hurting from their second loss, while Al Nassr is sauntering into their spot, even though they only tied a game against a team that looked like an easy win. I get it. We were all expecting to win against a "weaker" team like Abha, but it ended in a tie. But isn't that what makes the sport so great? When what everyone thinks is the underdog scores a goal despite the odds being against them. It really warms my heart. Yes, the tables turned in a way that no one saw coming, but isn't that what keeps us all hooked to our screens every week?

Well, yes it makes the sport so great, but it also shows that Ronaldo is no magician because I precisely recall how everyone thought that Ronaldo only will turn Al-Nassr into the reigning champion for however long he will play for them, but this doesn't hold true.

I wonder what happens when the day comes that his contract with Al-Nassr is about to expire. Thinking about it is already interesting because somehow I feel he can't call it quits. There are many things you can accuse him of, but his passion certainly was always at 100% and more. It would almost be an awkward moment to see him giving a press conference saying goodbye.

To me it would seem a bit silly for Messi to play in the next world cup, he has the chance to retire after he won the world cup, and now he can play a bit more to make some extra cash, plus then he will be able to continue making money by doing ads and things like that.

Playing the next world cup would not bring anything else to him, even if he wins it
It's quite strange in my opinion if someone says that if he can win the world cup again it won't bring anything for him, because of course it will give something extraordinary for his career, because winning one world cup trophy versus two world cup trophies is a very different thing in terms of anything including financial and records that will probably last a long time before another player can match or even break them.
However, whether Lionel Messi plays or not is a mystery and if Lionel Scaloni still calls him, it means he still has strong value for the Argentine squad in the future and of course with careful consideration considering that Argentina is a country that has quite good player resources.

I agree with you and it would be like Federer in tennis to say he stops playing tennis once he won all the Grand Slam tournaments one time. Won Wimbledon? Quit career! That is nonsense and in my opinion a player of any sport should listen to their bodies and if they are still healthy and they get positive feedback from the managers and the fans and they feel they can contribute to the success of the team, what is the reason that they should stop playing what people love them for? Really this is a stupid argument to make.

The real problem is that some players can't accept that their peak is long over and that they are mostly injured and when they are healthy they also play bad. That's when they missed the train to stop as a professional. But apart from that why should a player stop if he feels great?
