https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1285787.0 People highly value privacy/anonymity but a few knows what ring signature is

Of course the bovine hordes have no idea what a ring signature is, much less how to use points on an eliptic curve to properly calculate a feasibly unbreakable key pair.

To be honest it is my opinion that most of the coven hoofed members of this forum could not even pick a good password.  My password, on the other hand, is so well picked I can tell you what it is and you will STILL not be able to access any of my 214 accounts here.  Actually I cannot access many of them anymore either, but that is a story for another post.

My password is the first and only multi dimensional mathematical representation of a singularity.  Not the one at the center of OUR galaxy as Sagitarius A would just be too obvious.

I am not worried about revealing that is is based on APM 08279+5255 as no hackers would be able to understand the gravitational algorithms I needed to calculate the checksum for my singularity model, and I believe if they even tried to hack my password the sheer weight of it's genius would cause them to go entirely mad.

I chose, for this reason, not to even change my password when this site was hacked.  But also because I am somewhat suspicious there would a devastating effect on the fabric of OUR universe if I WERE to change it.  Even my mistakes are so magnificent it is difficult to know what they are capable of.

I expect none of you are intelligent enough to understand this reasoning. (apart from possibly Smooth (though I am not certain of this as he has been somewhat resistant of my idea to rename his Aeon project into a particular Pygmy dialect that I am fond of (the pronunciation would be something like djanalaloa*CLICK*tasahee))).

I simply do not have time to try to teach cattle to read much less understand.

Good day.

Dafuq? As though I were reading a foreign language… Dammit I knew I wasnt smart enough to enter the Church of Monero Wink

Oh well Ill leave my few XMR on Polo in preparation for the incoming pump.

Congrats to that guy for de-anon'ing the whole SDC chain - thats some pretty major pwnage. In fact it was so impressively devastating Im slightly worried about the same fate befalling XMR. These things always require a small leap of faith, however, and you guys might be bright enough to pull it off…

That guy (Shen Noether) is also a member of the Monero Research Lab (MRL). Thus, I presume the code and math has been thoroughly vetted now.
2002  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 16, 2016, 11:08:47 AM

Doesnt 70k monero buy seem suspicious? I would imagine xmr gradually going up, rather then with one massive buy. the question is if this price will hold, and if so, will it even go further.

Wasn't 70k at once, the 1 minute candle shows approximately 46k. That 46k may consists of multiple buys that minute. The slippage is fairly low, so if someone wanted to acquire a large position quickly that would've make sense. Here is the 1 minute chart of last night:

But give Shen a few days, I'm sure he'll have an even easier time de-anonymizing Dash

Hey Eduardo, do you want me to create an 8-round Darksend transaction for him to tackle? I'd be happy to do so!

P.S. I'd love some sort of a bug bounty / pen test program funded by the blockchain. Once some budget space frees up next month, somebody should start that up!

Didn't Evan Duffield say evolution will have a 1-round Darksend transaction as default? Perhaps the bounty should be for that.

Can someone point me to the latest roadmap/results achieved?

https://getmonero.org/design-goals/

https://getmonero.org/2016/02/10/monero-missive-2015-year-in-review.html

Ring CT (and multisig) implementation is probably the most salient development -> https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0005.pdf

Dash isn't getting beat up by Monero as badly as poor little ShadowCash.

But give Shen a few days, I'm sure he'll have an even easier time de-anonymizing Dash's "bad crypto" than SDC's (which was at least based on ring signatures instead of Darksend's broken CoinJoin).

I don't see the "awful mess" you're talking about.  All I see is huge volume and huge price increases, backed by a great dev team and community.

Is the guy also working on de-anomyzing darksent(d)s?

No, he stumbled upon it whilst working on Ring Confidential Transactions for Monero. Perhaps if a bounty was offered he would try.

Either I am very good at this, or a whale is reading me or both!

And no, I am not behind this (not a whale anymore after my coins were stolen)...

Sorry to hear that.. Question: What are peoples opinions on how many XMR one would have to own to be considered a "whale"?

The 0.1% of the total supply before tail emission, 18.4k, figure has been going around for some time.
2007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 15, 2016, 03:33:38 PM
I read Shnoe's expository on SDC's ring signature flaw with great interest. I have a couple of questions.

1. I noticed that the following equation discusses a hash function, but unlike other hash functions in the paper, it does not have a subscript.

From context this is a hash function that returns a point with unknown log, and that this was just a typo, correct?

2. I was curious about the form of Shnoe's following equation

It does not seem to agree with the cryptonote white paper, which provides a more complicated equation for ci

Whereas the cryptonote white paper would make sense in this context, Shnoe's form does not seem consistent with his final statement that this "proves that someone has actually signed the transaction, since the signer, knowing xi is able to solve alpha = si + cixi".

Your post has been forwarded to Shen, hopefully he'll able to answer you soon.

Things are looking good fellas. Question - Related to the forthcoming GUI release, are there plans for a Smartphone wallet? (Is that a heavy chore, specifically with XMR compared to other cryptos or roughly the same? Understanding we are not putting the blockchain on smartphones.  Cheesy)

Thx in advance,
Its about sharing

There is already the Monero android wallet:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ionicframework.monerowallet116498&hl=nl

If I recall correctly saddam was optimizing that as well.

Also, from the official GUI thread:

Another goal is to make the GUI portable to smartphones.

where can i find a monero wallet client for 32 bit users? it seems like 32 bitusers like me are left behind for monero.

this simple wallet download page don't work anymore https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=613072.msg6787334#msg6787334

The devs are working on finalizing the official 32-bit binaries. Until then you can use the unofficial binaries that are posted here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/433w2u/new_32bit_binaries_for_v091/

Hyc is the author of LMDB (database Monero uses), thus pretty trustworthy.

I'll wait for it. I hate binaries. haven't been successful installing tarballs. which webwallet is recommended by the way?

All right.

MyMonero, which is run by fluffypony (one of the core-team members of Monero):

Seems like my call for shorters to come up yesterday is paying off people.
Shorting Monero enables the liquidity for dumps like these.

Do you mean this morning's price drop is caused by the dump? I thought that is just normal correction after big rise.

I placed a buy at .00175101 just because i was watching before crashing last night and it looked like a shakeout. I see clear skys and strong hands right now. but these guys buying now are pro's not much room for error on large trades. Better to let them push the market and just put on your seat belt. Smiley

Got some moar BTC at coinbase so gotta see where I can scoop some more up at another dip.

This might interest you btw, I think it was you mentioning that it was a PITA to buy at bittrex:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/45n9k0/psa_crossexchange_liquidity_transfers/

I hear yah, thanks

Fortunately with high volume it's not an issue. And I prefer to get dumped into cause I'm cheap. Cheesy

My main issue was trying to put an order in-between the bids/asks and having a bot immediately jump me.

What's your guys best guess as to the next dip's bottom? I'm surprised it's down to .00177 right now.

Edit 5 seconds later: and it's upward again.

Not really suprised it is down that much (compared to the high), it went up 80-90% in 3 days. The 165-170k breakout zone (which should now act as support) was tested multiple (4 looking at the chart) times on high volume, which means it is highly likely to be a strong local bottom. It might get tested again though.

I keep my xmr in a mymonero.com wallet.  Last time I logged in, it gave me a message that I have to pay 10 xmr to import my transactions.  What happened?
My old address is gone, and the wallet won't show my balance.

Edit:  when that happened, I was using a Japanese VPN.  I switched to a U.S. vpn, logged in again and my wallet works normally.  Can somebody explain?

You definitely used the same login key each time, right? If so, then it sounds like the VPN is doing something funny. The only time it would show you a different address is if your seed / keys were modified by poisoned Javascript. I'd be VERY nervous using that VPN.
Same 13 words.  It has a checksum, so it's highly unlikely this thing happened as a result of mistyping it.
I was using the Android OpenVPNConnect app and the University of Tsukuba VPN software, which is used by hundreds of vpn servers in dozens of countries.  Go to vpngate.net, choose a server and decide whether you want to use OpenVPN, IPsec, SSL or sstp.  I chose a server in Japan, because it has the highest throughput.
It seems strange, if this was malware, that they would ask for 10 xmr, when presumably the goal is to get the contents of my wallet.
I'll transfer my funds from mymonero to a different wallet.

Regardless of the discussion above, simplewallet is more privacy preserving than MyMonero because the latter needs your viewkey in order to show the balance.
I have downloaded
https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator/
to use offline.  After sending coins from mymonero.com to the new wallet, how do I send coins from the new wallet?  It looks like I am going to need another wallet.
I own only Android devices, no windows, Apple or Linux.
Is there an Android wallet app?

The wallet generator you linked is to make paper wallets, these are usually used to store coins and not really to transact with. If you want a wallet to transact with better use simplewallet.

There is an android wallet app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ionicframework.monerowallet116498&hl=nl

However, I strongly advise you to don't store large amount in an app. Better to use either simplewallet or generate a (cold) paper wallet with the Monero wallet generator (Moneroaddress).

EDIT: Also, I think the issue you are reporting is due to something on your end.

Yes, devs are aware of that.

Update from MoneroMooo:

Another milestone done. This one took longer because I took a break after the 0.9 push.

Main things I've done on this milestone:

  • fixes for the wallet creating txes over max size the daemon will accept
  • more work on tests (including tests for the MRL-0004 changes)
  • going through all the V1/V2 stuff to catch what I saw was wrong
  • fix for txes not expiring from pool due to other nodes coming online regularly
  • better handling of pending/failed txes in simplewallet
  • new command/RPC to flush txes from the txpool
  • preventing two daemons from using the same data dir concurrently
  • more intelligent handling against duplicate outs

Perfect storm for Monero:

+ MultiSig
+ GUI funded
+ Daily Decrypt
+ Peter Todd
+ Shen #REKT Shadowcash
+ ETH going crazy

So awesome to see 100ks of XMR flying around on Polo.

Need to get on Kraken and BTC-E too.   Cool

I haven't been paying attention ... where is the info about the gui  wallet funding?  I've said btce  for a long time ... it'd  be a perfect match.  But with the wallet differences I don't think you're going to see this without consistent millions per day in volume.  To the casual observer it looks like bitcoinmarkets hedging is starting to heat up a bit.
