For everyone trading on HitBtc, please be cautious:

http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/2m6rp7/hitbtc_about_to_go_mt_gox/

i think lightweight wallets are key for future adoption, so i happy happy the dev team sets its focus there.
i feel that many people interested in anon coin right now get sucked into dark since they have massive PR.

@pönde: did you really try ? how can we help you? making paper wallet for xmr is very very easy.

I agree that DRK's marketing is a lot better than ours, but we should wait with heavy marketing till all key features are completed (GUI,DB). Advertising XMR in it's current state will only generate a contradictory effect than what we desire.

@ponde: Maybe you should ask for help on the irc channel. Joining it is fairly easy, go to http://webchat.freenode.net/, set your name, set the channel to monero and connect. If you are in the channel, just state your question(s) and someone will help you for sure.

The fact that there is no user friendly wallet to use should make you realize how early to the game we are, accumulate while you can.

Yes. I do understand.

I am anyway unable to run any Monero-wallet properly, so I has to store my coins in an exhance. That is a risk. I am willing to buy more monero, but just after I am able to store them safely to my own GUI-wallet and/or parer wallet. Does anyone have any knowledge when Monero GUI-wallet will be available? Specially for linux?

Two months ago it was told to be few weeks ahead. What about now?

I am just going to leave this conversation here (note: tacotime is a core dev). Sammy007 makes valid arguments as well.

You can't expect the raise of public usage unless you show people the official GUI. I don't know why is it so late, more than 6 months passed.

We're working on making the software more functional for payment processors and web wallets rather than concentrating on a GUI for the wallet that is attached to the daemon. The vast majority of Bitcoin users do not use full nodes anymore. In fact, only about 700 full nodes even exist on the Bitcoin network anymore.

Does this apply to making lightweight wallets as well? In that case I agree with your points, but still it would be nice to release the GUI asap, since itīs a great aspect of marketing.

Yes. We're trying to get the framework in place to do SPV-style clients like Electrum, so Windows users won't have to sync the blockchain, etc.

I have a Monero wallet with private key, but I do not want to wait for bitmonerod to sync.

Is there any web-wallet or similar where I can import the private key?

Currently there is no webwallet avaible yet, but there are rumours that one is comming soon. This is just rumours and not confirmed unfortunately.

This is some nice price action but not buying yet. Ive been tricked before!

Full disclosure: Hodler for life.
 Cool

We have to hold above 410 for a few weeks, on rising volume, before I will be convinced the downturn is officially over.  If we're still above 410 by Xmas, I'm definitely buying more.  Until then.... meh....

Also a Hodler for life.

I agree, but I am convinced that the bulls are trying to draw a perfect mirror image of last years rally.

Back to $420.  People that sold at $425-$430 should reconsider getting back in soon.

I think we will first get a pullback to 400-410 (2500 CNY), after that up again!
3326  Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical Levels - EW analysis on: November 12, 2014, 06:48:02 PM
That my friends..... is what you call a iii wave and a fifth wave blowout! yeah!

This breakout price action has given us some evidence that we have bottomed out at $275 and may never return.

This is my dominant count.

This thread is reaching a conclusion. I will continue to track the primary of the next bubble, but that might be the end.

If you have found any of my EW analysis useful and have made some killer profits then a fraction of that would be welcome in my bitcoin wallet as thanks and incentive to continue.

I find your posts very insightfull (I only discovered this topic yesterday). Based on your analysis I sold part of my trading stash (nothing considerable) at 334 EUR (Kraken's top was 335 EUR Smiley). Anyway, I hope you will continue with your analysis, I will donate some BTC in the future as well.

how does it come we are down to rank 13 on coingecko? have we not been like 5 or 6?

As you can see the difference between the numbers 7 to 14 is very small. I think itīs because of the drop in community and public interest (on coingecko) that we are ranked lower at the moment.

Actually, there has been a significant gap in market cap between 9 and 12, or even 11 and 12, for a while now. Darkcoin, for instance, has four times the market cap of Monero.

I meant the ranks on coingecko.com, not the ranks on coinmarketcap.com  Tongue Maybe you should try IRC for your questions? Mostly you will get a faster response there.

What am I supposed to do?? Enter 20x leverage right here or wait for a dip??

Fucking christ

20x leverage is just madness, seriously. A 5% drop of your buy-in price will get you margin called and since bitcoin is very volatile itīs pretty easy to meet that target.
3332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 08, 2014, 03:08:48 PM
I somewhat now see some arguments for changing the emission - best would be if could change the emission and adapt the current amount of coins accordingly, but I think this is really impossible.

maybe I am wrong and the social contract is less important than the fixing - I am really really unsure about this.

You can just slow down the block time and you will lower the daily inflation, but keep the same amount of coins. Why do you think this is impossible? Btw, I think that changing the total amount of coins will be perceived more negative than slowing down the emission..
3333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 07, 2014, 09:08:13 PM
it was not my intend to split discussion again into another thread & other forum.

something has to happen, and if its only price jumping  Grin

The price is an indicator wether things are done right or wrong so it is good to see the discussion on this matter and hopefully the decision is made.
If they decide not to cut the emission - I am done with Monero (I am not selling but I am not enthustiatic buyer neither). There is no point in buying a coin which is going down after a small pump - and going lower than the previous height.
Also as someone here thought, I assume the community has not enough cash (and above all, interest) to buy the rest of coins from the markets.

Monero has value but there are also other coins which are anonymous, too. Monero is not the one for an investor to choose.

I am now at the point that I couldn't care less. I have been throwing money a lot into Monero - I am not so much interested in throwing more unless there is no hope for the end of this dumping. My Dollar value is down roughly 70 % (a huge part of this is the decline in btc-usd price but mainly it is due to the decline between xmr-btc pairing). I am just not interested in a coin which will go on dumping like this. I do not want to end up being the largest bagholder so I am not buying a coin that is dumped by the dumpsters constantly.
I have other investments that are increasing in value so I personally focus more on them.

But you realize, that if we cut the emission we have selling pressure for a very very very long time, the daily inflation goes down way faster at the moment than it would with a different emission?

Monero has no good value currently as you canīt do shit with it literally, it simply canīt be used widely before other crucial parts are fixed. The same applies to most other coins, they are currently purely speculative assets.

Look at Bitcoindark, Blackcoin, NXT or whatever PoS coin, theres literally no inflation but the marketcap has gone down the same.

Everything you said basically also applies to Bitcoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and all other bigger coins Wink

I am sure the dumping has other reasons and is not only the emissions fault.

Agree that we have selling pressure for a very long time, but I think with cutting the emission the selling pressure will be better to handle. It also gives more space to increase adoption and price will be less supressed as well. Personally, I think an increasing price gives more incentives for current holders to increase the adoption and maybe invest more. A decling price with making lower lows doesnīt really encourage current holders (since people will get into the despair or depression phase).

Weird series of messages on bitmonerod (v.0.8.8.4-unknown), e.g.:

It means one of your peers is stuck, see below:

I'm excited and worried
You're connected to a peer who is still on the block 202612 attack fork. I'm surprised to see that fork still exists at all. I suppose some people just don't update their clients at all. Nonetheless, there is no harm to you and you can safely ignore it.
I had the same thing. Glad to hear it does not matter.

If possible, a statement from the MONERO developers

Thanks  Wink

xulescu's reply was correct.

I'm also surprised there are still so many stuck nodes. Safe to ignore.

The coin with the best technology will win this race to Dark Market dominance. Agressive marketing or a well-known brand (like Darkcoin) wont.

i feel so too. Most vendors specially in tech dark markets have very strong technological knowhow and are also very conservative with security.

BUT this does not mean the race is over, its far from over. we slip down further everyday, the dumping still seems to be endless..

Agree on the dumping part, looks familiar to the random 1k btc dumps we had. Someone just keeps dumping 10-20k while prices were never this low.. Maybe some big guys who bought before exchanges and wants out. We will never know for sure.
3338  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: November 04, 2014, 09:24:50 PM
In the forefront of the defence against those developments: Monero (XMR). Total emission 18M vs. Bitcoin's 21M. Price: 0.0017 BTC. Hedging your position with an equal or higher amount of Monero has seldom been this cheap  Smiley

Isn't Monero actually more centralized than Bitcoin and bound to be even more centralized as a side-effect of its blockchain bloat?

The cryptography aspect does not matter too much if there are so few full nodes that you can just log the originating IPs of transactions. Bitcoin is getting there fast, but Monero seems to already have reached the point of "too few full nodes" for anonymity of IP. It's basically the same issue as Tor vs Bitcoin, when there are few enough nodes, you can tap all of them on a low budget.

Also another aspect of centralization are the cloud hosting companies: any entity that has access to physical hosts of handful of top cloud hosters will have detailed IP address logs for transaction origins, and most full nodes are running on the hardware of few hosting companies.

Monero is working on a project to obfuscate your IP, more info here: https://geti2p.net/en/blog/post/2014/08/15/The-privacy-solutions-project (see #5)

Monero now below $.6, more fallen from $2.2 a few months ago.
Best of luck, Monero Developers and Community.

Thanks, it's a great time to buy monero; the devs are working hard and getting the db in order and the price is fantastic.

I have to admit I am jealous of the people who are discovering Monero just now and can buy at this price  Cheesy

how to help the price rising?

Increasing adoption, get more awareness for Monero is a key thing for adoption.
