Hey risto. At what price are we having the party at your house? Also, am I invited?

More info here -> https://forum.getmonero.org/14/events/121/10-usd-monero-party. Probably all Monero holders are warmly welcome  Smiley

PS: It states the following: "The location (or locations) of the party (parties?) as well as the scope of what is included it not defined yet, but we'd like it to be a seamless experience - so this would probably mean you pay your plane/train... ticket and we take care of the rest (food and drinks, accomodation, guided tours, memorable gifts...)", but if I recall correctly the intention was to host it at Malla.

for some reasons I think btc-e would be the best fit  Grin

It would certainly align with their interests to stay anonymous, but if I recall correctly they are still in the process of removing/delisting old altcoins.

So once the database is released for all to enjoy (which is so soon its about to fall off the branch - fruit/github pun!!!) what're we going to start clamoring for / working on next? ...

Do to the dependencies what we need is a hierarchy branch structure of the development schedule. This would make the Teams goals much easier to understand for the layman. Visual representation is so much easier to point out than reiterating lists.

Something like a flowchart with arrows would be great for this in my opinion.

EDIT: The flowchart could also be updated with people who are working on it, that would make communicating a lot easier and the work will probably go a lot faster.
3065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 16, 2015, 06:59:49 PM
Sold all my XMR. i will buy back at 0.0005-0.0010 Cool

That's what most guys said with within the 0.0010-0.0015 range, we all know how that played out.
3066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: April 16, 2015, 04:39:17 PM

Why can't we just raise funds for these items, in a similar way that funds were raised for the above 2 items?

well partly due to some game-theoretic problems and freeridinng and partly due to the reason that someone has to step up and organize the stuff.

If you manage to organize all the stuff let me know and I send you 20xmr Wink

I would be happy to donate as well and it seems like a great incentive. Aligning it with Monero's birthday would be great too. However, there are some implications, some design goals have lot of interdependency (or are worked on together), so it's hard to set them out apart (I guess fluffypony could give a more extensive argument on this one).

PS: There is already a system in place for this. I don't know when it's going live though, but it will probably be after all the DB work is finished.

you guys are always pointing out how the project is basically unfunded and you do great work under those conditions no doubt. but i just want to do what i can to help with this situation for 2 reasons, for the good of monero, but also because you guys should be compensated for the work you do. and the thing is, i just dont think that panhandling is ever going to get you the sort of consistent and appropriate compensation you should be getting, and monero should be getting.

We've been working on adding some needed functionality to the forum, and our next major task we're going to tackle is the funding system. The idea is:

1. Users / developers / anyone will pitch an idea in the Ideas section of the forum. This is already happening.

2. After some discussion it will be moved by one of the administrators (currently the Core Team only, but that would change in future) to the Open Tasks section of the forum. No tasks have been moved as yet.

3. Developers (including the core team, and initially probably only the core team for simplicity) will pitch against each of these open tasks. Later on I would expect that there would be more people / teams pitching against tasks, and the most competent / available / reasonably priced will be the one the community will veer towards.

4. Once the developer / team has been selected to complete the task it moves to the Funding Required section of the forum, and it is opened for funding.

5. Funding will be to a core team controlled address with a payment ID for that particular project/task, and there will be a funding progress bar. This information will be mirrored over to a funding page on the website that shows the funding progress per project/task.

6. When funding reaches 70% (for smaller tasks) or 30% (for larger and longer tasks) it goes into the Work in Progress section and work begins.

7. Funds are dispensed by the core team on a regular basis and only if there is actual progress / commits / whatever, so it doesn't go into a black hole.

Advantages of this approach:

- the core team's oversight role can eventually be replaced by a group selected from the community at large, so as not to have a stranglehold over things

- the core team's escrow role can eventually be replaced by a multi-sig system (2-of-3) where the signatories are the core team, the oversight group, and the recipient, so the recipient can't spend those raised funds without the involvement of one of the other 2 signatories

- this isn't limited to dev tasks, and things like "fly David Latapie to speak at a conference" or lobbying or PR or advertising can all have tasks created and funded

- funding is direct and specific to tasks instead of going into a big black hole and hoping for the best

We expect this system will still take us another short while before we can put it live, but we're already crunching away at the functionality for it (and this also further emphasises why the forum couldn't just be SMF with a theme;) )

I personally hope this will be the way to go in the future, since it just gives so much more incentive to donate if you can donate to a specific "thing" you would like to see developed. Most people hesitate to donate, because it's currently more or less a blackbox to which you donate (no offence to the devs, but I think a system described above (by fluffypony and by GingerAle) would have a much bigger utility).

FreeBazaar is alive, and I would venture that pull requests would be welcome.  Disappointment will persist until it is usable.  I can't speak for atrides, just sayin' what I see.

Latest pull request was 4 days ago -> https://github.com/freebazaar/FreeBazaar/pull/3, so there is still some work going on. I have to agree though that the development is very slow and if I recall correctly Atrides personally said it would only be about 1-2 months work if funding was completed (which nearly was). There may some other causes though why development is going slow, but if so, he should communicate that better in my opinion.

When will this new database be released? Further, is there a roadmap of Monero development somewhere? Thanks!

Why don't use the BCN implementation ? Isn't Monero originating from the same codebase ? I have not followed Monero development.

I want to say that cryptrol is a serious and skillful guy so a good answer would be nice. I am just saying that cause i think noone replied him. I would but i dont understand all the differences...
Because Monero new DB will be much better and actually scalable to many different systems: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg10571550#msg10571550

Regarding the DB: They are finalizing it currently (I guess there are still some bugs left) and it should be out soon. (Most of it is already merged into master)

Regarding the Roadmap: Just check the beautiful pictures in this link -> https://getmonero.org/design-goals/

Just beautiful:

Also, bid side is over 700 btc currently, approaching an alltime high!

Hello,
I consider to buy some Monero for the first time and took a look for a good wallet. I am wondering how secure MyMonero.com is? Is it like an exchange where all coin could be stolen without having the private key?

No, it's more like blockchain.info, the private key is only on the client side and never ever known to the website.

In addition:

MyMonero only has your view key, not your spend key, so no way to touch your funds without your involvement:)

PS: MyMonero is run by core developer Fluffypony
3072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 08, 2015, 11:19:23 PM

An army of bots will paint the chart green!

On a more serious note, this looks like a great service for people that don't have enough time on their hands to check the price the whole day and/or get frustrated by setting their bids that eventually won't get hit (and thus having to set them again). How this will influence the market? Since the buying is more gradual it could reduce the volatility, which in general is a good thing. On the opposite, it could take away some liquidity from the bid side. So in conclusion, I am not really clear in what way this could effect the market, but atleast it's a good feature for the people that want to invest/buy for the long term.

i certainly hope it will help building up the bid side a little (it also places a buy-order for you below last price - only if this is not executed it will buy on your specified interval).

it is inspired by usd-cost-averaging - which made some good returns in the early btc-days.

i will continue to develop it; if you have suggestions just tell us!

I read it a bit wrong, I thought it was always marketbuying the top asks. Anyway, now that the purpose of the bot is more clear, I think it's a good thing for the market. Let's see how this plays out.

PS: Cost-averaging is certainly a good strategy with such volatile assets like Monero. Market timing in "normal" markets is already hard, imagine trying it with Monero.
3073  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 08, 2015, 11:07:04 PM
Heya monero speculators! Onemorexmr, fluffypony and I put together something that will make it easier for everyone to buy monero!!

(yes, its still buying with bitcoin)

With BuyMonero.net, you get your own bot that will place a daily buy order for an amount of XMR that you specify. If no one sells to the bot in 24 hours, your bot will make a second buy order that is sure to be filled. There is a small fee for the service - currently 1% (so 1 XMR lets you buy 100 XMR on the exchange).

We made BuyMonero.net for a couple of reasons. My primary motivation was so that I wouldn't have to always login to poloniex and follow the markets to try and get a good deal on monero. The second motivation was to allow accumulators a way to buy a lot of Monero with minimal effort.

If you're interested, please checkout the website. The following forum threads are also available for general discussion and tech support.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1017131

As this is the speculation thread, I assume you all will want some hard numbers - unfortunately, we decided that to avoid exploitation of the bot that we would not publish them. And to keep this on topic - how do you think a service like this will affect the market?

Anon136, this is what you were asking for right?  Grin

Not sure about Anon136 but I asked for this in the last 2 weeks!
Great news and the effort is appreciated.
Downloading now.

Hopefully this just helps to get a bit more of the truth out there.

I think I've mixed you two up then, sorry for that!

On another note...

Atrides, dwarfpool owner, is every scammers wet dream, here's why :

He operates the second largest pool, dwarfpool. Current hash rate 3.3MH/s.
The only pool that DOES NOT publish full block history! I've asked him to make this data available and was told every time to f..off. so I've scraped his "Last 30 blocks" page every 1 hour and have been doing it for some time now.

His efficiency for the last 2000 blocks is 81% !
No other pool has such low efficiency, feel free to check them all, both big and small, botnet-friendly and private. Such bad efficiency can only lead to one conclusion - HE IS SIPHONING!

Now take a look at https://github.com/freebazaar?tab=activity
Back in January Atrides asked the community for 10k XMR in donations to begin work on an openbazaar fork. Devs were quick to give support and asked the community to donate as much as possible. When someone suggested that the coins be kept in an escrow Atrides refused and the devs made no attempt to force the escrow or even suggest the donators do their own due diligence.

Move your hash elsewhere people!@#
I also expect the community to demand asnwers and a deadline from this professional scammer.

ugh. someone should really develop a pay per post forum software. This FUD cleanup is getting exhausting.

re: dwarfpool accusation, I have no idea. Based on your other "research" related to monero, my gut is to not trust anything you post.

re: freebazaar, this point is so old its getting old. Those that donated get private updates. Also, during the fundraising, there was no cheerleading from the core dev team. I remember being excited about it. I don't have the time to fish and find the posts (maybe Dr. Bookmarks will have them handy). Is it not happening as swiftly as people would like? Probably. But yah know what else has the same problem? Everything in the world thats worth a damn.

Discussion starts around here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg9994963#msg9994963

David showed me the email conversation and I can thus vouch for him, so what you're stating is utter bullshit. Why would he even lie about this?

Watch your language.

More about David's PR skills here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PRLuaD-qVQ
If he is in charge of negotiations with Bitfinex its just not going to happen.

EDIT: I just noticed how David and Vitalik Buterin look alike, as if he is Vitalik's big brother Smiley

I was a bit exaggerating, sorry for that. But you still didn't answer my question why he would even lie about this?

3080  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: April 07, 2015, 11:27:23 AM
Anybody knows someone from Bitfinex?

BTW - Does anyone know about this? Were Darkcoin scammers trying to increase the supply at will?

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1f7z840EcKjGNr7jZTwHL1u5HDTGNqHeeCszrR0Iy1J8/edit?pli=1
I contacted Bitfinex some days ago and I received a (non-automatic) reply about them looking into adding Monero. Methinks this is a good opportunity for other to propose it to.

Core team is so desperate they are on a FUD crusade themselves... Bitfinex would not touch monero with a 10 foot pole.

David showed me the email conversation and I can thus vouch for him, so what you're stating is utter bullshit. Why would he even lie about this?
