I think it's best to wait with marketing before we have all core features implemented and working.

I wonder if it's not overoptimistic: it seems we expect people to flock en masse just because "some marketing"...
The marketing that is synonym to education to a larger community shouldn't be increased by now?

What I meant is agressive marketing/promoting/advertising, we should wait with that till the core features are finished. We can't promote XMR to the darknetmarkets or betting sites without decent core features. I agree with your second point, that we should increase that and educate people about ringsignatures and the privacy monero provides.

In case you are waiting for the missives and missed fluffypony's statement, I will just leave it here again.

Hi guys - just a quick update, we had the Missive up earlier on forum.monero.cc, but pulled it down because of a breaking bug in the Windows 0.8.8.5 builds (OS X, Linux, and FreeBSD are all fine). We're diagnosing and fixing, and will be putting it back up as soon as it's fixed:)
3302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: December 02, 2014, 10:27:02 PM
WTF with the price?

Major support at 150000 satoshis pulled.

Monero is behind BitcoinDark in market cap. Check www.coinmarketcap.com

Behind in price does not equal being behind.

It's still good to look at to keep us honest, though, regardless of whatever we *think* our long term fundamental advantages are. Monero definitely has a perception problem from many investors' points of view at the moment.
I can understand your sentiment, but I ask:

How can you single-handedly perceive that many investors' points of view reflect a problem with Monero's perception?

Simply because we know that big money is flowing into various cryptocurrency projects right now, and they just aren't choosing Monero.

Do you mean the SuperNET etc? Or could you give examples? I think it's best to wait with marketing before we have all core features implemented and working.
3303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 27, 2014, 03:52:37 PM
I think think knowing something about monero adoption metrics can help us speculate better.

Some examples are:

1.  How many transactions per day are there? I'm not sure if this is possible to know.

2. How many times has the client been downloaded? rpietila seemed to have this information in the monero economics thread.

3. How many full nodes, listening clients, and miners are there? I can see there are 338 people connected to moneropool.com

Is anyone charting this stuff over time? I can do some investigation myself, but if someone else has already done it, I'd like to see what they've come up with.

1. I don't know of an easy source for this. Monerochain.info used to have a convenient chart but has been down for some time now. You would have to write code the analyze the blockchain itself. My guess is under 2000 but I think the number will increase now that per-kb fees are being rolled out.

2 Some stats on this were given some time back. We haven't released this recently but I'll see if we can release some updated numbers.

3. I'm not sure it is possible to know this. Someone would have to write a program to try to find as many nodes as it could and connect to them, but even that would only tell you about listening nodes. There are no lightweight clients, so all p2p clients are full nodes.

Would be nice if fluffypony could post the number of wallets created at my monero (if this is possible). Although number of wallets =! number of users, it would give a nice insight in adoption.

Crossposting for info:

Why is DRK a scam and why do the Monero crew want to take it down?
~BCX~

It's not a scam and it's Monero's closest competitor functionality wise.

I'll never understand why people like to bring/take down other currencies. There's enough space for all of them.

My current deal with Monero ends on December 20th as we came to an agreement for 60 days of BCX free Monero.

Where we go from there, who knows?

They have however offered a proposition for DRK but I wanted to find out about it first.

I think they feel that DRK is why they are steadily falling week over week.

If a coin is good I have no interest in bothering it but if it is a scam, shit is on.

Let's hear the good, bad and ugly!

~BCX~

I'd like to officially state, for and on behalf to the Monero core team, that this is the biggest load of rubbish we've ever read.

We have no deal with BCX, nor have we ever had a deal with him. In fact, our many attempts at engaging him have come up empty.

We also have not ever, and will not ever, "offer a proposition for DRK" to BCX or any other trolls. What an absurd notion, we're not even in "competition" with Darkcoin, much less able to waste money on a petty spat.

No block reward probably wont be until August 2016.

There was a post about the subject on reddit yesterday: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2muc31/next_block_reward_halving_date_is_now_estimated/
3308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 21, 2014, 05:27:23 PM
Lol why do people take it personal when people sell?  It's about adoption and the inherent things a coin brings to the table ... not having loyal fanboys who hodle long enough

I don't mind, I only asked why. I agree, but having loyal fanboys who hodl long enough also reduce sell presure.
3309  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 21, 2014, 05:20:37 PM
2014 = super shit
2015 = slow steady rise out of the swamp
2016 = new highs again, but not done frantically, just gently
end of 2016 = block reward halves, sparks new 5k-10k territory.

Is one possible outcome.....

Block reward already halves in may 2016, so maybe we will reach moon a bit earlier  Cool

I suggest as marketing activity:  that (all) Monero supporters with account status "Sr. Member" or higher ("Hero Members", "Legendary") set an Monero realated "Personal Text" of their choice, as decent advertising.

Like saddambitcoin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=53193 and I have.

I am sure it would improve Moneros image and publicity on this board very much, if hero members like e.g. "binaryFate" or "nioc" would have/use an Monero "Personal Text" tagline.

Hero members and legendardy members are respected and trusted, their positive perceived image would transfer to Moneros brand image (and increase publicity).

Although I am only a full member, I added a signature. I agree with your statements and I find this a very good initiave. I would advise other members to put something in their signature as well.

Looks like the dumpers are out of coins (for now). Support is really huge. So with a little push we can maybe see 0.0025+ in next weeks? Also some cool news from devs perhaps?
i'm also surprised to see the buy support being so strong.
i hope we have seen the bottom in the market...

emission going down every day, good news about the come...

Run to 0.0025 seems very much possible by the end of the year

I will dump if it will skyrocket.

If serious, why? Your monero are becomming more valuable!
3312  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2014, 07:43:29 PM
Now that the US has put out a notice for auction of 50000 BTC, i see big investors and whales dumping to bring down the price so that they can buy in cheap and pickup those 50K coins. Something similar to what happened when they announced the sale the last time. My only issue is, once the price settled down it did not move up as quickly as everyone anticipated. Could this mean another long drawn bear run? Don't know for sure, but im buying in when these coins are cheap and hoping that the price starts rising once the auction is done and dusted. My 2 satoshi. Grin

I share this view. I think we won't go anywhere untill the 144k from DPR are auctioned off and a similair pattern will appear next two auctions.

Darkcoin will be a lot easier to implement and with InstantX it will be much faster.

Monero is a great concept, just a bit too early to be taken seriously... I hope that changes though, competition in the anon space will be healthy for DRK....

Complexity of adding it shouldn't determine which coin to add.

The two bottom links aren't working btw. However, you can click on the transaction from the first link to get to them.

Is the inflation rate still being changed?

Only discussed, nothing has changed or is changing.

Note: This is discussed in the MEW, which has no direct relation with the core devs (Dev's don't have to accept decision made by the MEW)

Looking at the amount of votes for both coins (DRK & XMR), why not add both? It seems like they both have a big community.
