I would be extremely wary of offering BTC for IXC. I fear the price is a nonsense price made up from a large number of small transactions and as soon as a large number of asks are placed, someone will wipe them all out with a large dump of IXC, dropping the price to near zero and raking in the bitcoins.

people are probably just trading in it for a bit of fun and excitement... i bought a few of them for 0.008 each and then 1 minute later someone bought some for 0.004 each... half what i paid... i know it's possible i'll lose all my money, but then again, i'm approaching it a bit like one of these gambling games we see so much on this forum Smiley

Yes props to the first person who creates their own block chain and poses as a black person as opposed to a Japanese person.

That's why BBE has this on all address pages...
Quote
Note: While the last "balance" is the accurate number of bitcoins available to this address, it is likely not the balance available to this person. Every time a transaction is sent, some bitcoins are usually sent back to yourself at a new address (not included in the Bitcoin UI), which makes the balance of a single address misleading. See the wiki for more info on transactions.
So the change addresses aren't included in the "Your Receiving Addresses" menu item in the client?  How can I find out what my change addresses are?

that's correct, you can't see them in the GUI... you could list all your addresses and see their balances received amounts by using the RPC command:

listreceivedbyaddress(0,true)

Weetbixcoins - the cryptocurrency you can eat for breakfast.

i think someone has mentioned this elsewhere already but a wallet service that had subscription functionality would be good.

Explain in details?

i wish i could find the thread where someone else explained it but a good comparison is alertpay.

i think paypal also caters for subscriptions.

let's say you have a 'membership' site that you want to charge 3 BTC per month for access.

a user subscribes to your site via a wallet service that caters for this. 3 btc is charged and the user is given access. (this part is no different from current set ups that are available right now... it's a callback to your server where you authenticate the payment).

then every 30 days, an extra 3 btc is automatically sent from the user to the merchant for continued access.this is initiated by the wallet service (cron job?) where the user should keep at least 3 btc available for his next month's subscription payment.

if the user doesn't have 3 btc available in their wallet for that month's payment, then their subscription is cancelled and they are unsubscribed from the site. (or optionally, they are sent a warning email asking them to top-up their account so the payment can be re-tried in 24 hours).

the merchant who runs the membership site could have options to set up all kinds of subscriptions depending on what the subscription is for. eg, they could set it up so that it cost 0.05 btc for a 3-day trial, and then 1 btc per month after that.

anyone implementing such a feature should definitely look into the way alertpay handles this.

with other options like alertpay, shorter subscription periods (i.e. daily) are impractical because of the high fees... you can't do $1 / day subscription because it'd cost the member $2.50 / day after all the fees, and the merchant would still only get $1 out of that. but with bitcoin it becomes feasible to have much shorter rollover periods.

...as a side note, there are sooooo many websites that i can imagine making use of such a system.

eg. bitcoin monitor is free the way it is now, but 0.1 btc per month for more detailed graphs.
mtgox is 0.65% commissions, but pay 5 btc per month to have unlimited 'free' trading for that month.
various btc websites that now contain ads, you could pay 0.05 btc per month to use an ad-free version.

Well sending ixcoins to a bitcoin address = fail. There goes 116 ixc into the ether.

try sending 116 btc to an ixcoin address and let me know.

I don't see the valued added by this fork and believe me I'm trying....
I can only think of one myself: what happens when people release Bitcoin alternatives. I guess better to learn now rather than later.

i'd rather learn later, once bitcoin is more mainstream and less vulnerable to competition.

I think it would be interesting if someone tried a fork of bitcoin with the same speed-of-generating-new-bitcoins-graph, but with no cap at 21 million btc. Instead, when the 21 million is reached, there will be an inflation of 0.7 % per year. That would mean that the money supply would double once every 100 years. That is an acceptable loss from a currency user's perspective, and would add any benefit(s) an inflationary currency arguably has. I could totally live with my savings halving in value once every 100 years, if that sacrifice boosts the usage of the currency, prevents hoarding etc.

Very cool idea!

slight flaw in that logic is that with bitcoin, 21 million will never be reached.

Nothing is stopping a 3rd party from implementing this

i forgot mtgoxlive wasn't a '3rd party' anymore.

Well, I did it. So go check out http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/order-book/ and use the nifty new calculator there!

this is awesome, thank you. i hope i'm not the only one that thinks this is useful (or just plain interesting Smiley )

...sending you 1 btc.
2576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: idea for mtgoxlive.com on: August 10, 2011, 01:58:04 PM
yeah it is a good site.

i just think it would be cool to be able to see how much your stash is worth, if sold into the mt gox market in one hit, obviously this is much different to just looking at the exchange rate and saying coins*rate.

like say the rate is $10.15 (like it is right now), and I own 20,000 coins... some might say i have $203,000 worth of coins, but it's realistically only worth about $180,000, if it had to be sold right now on mt gox.

how does one get started in programming a site that utilises this live feed?
2577  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: idea for mtgoxlive.com on: August 10, 2011, 01:08:57 PM
Hover your cursor on the lines.

yes, been there, done that thanks (that's how i found out the above example figures).

it's easy to find out by moving the cursor to the window and hovering over the graph until you find the point which corresponds to your approximate amount of bitcoins or dollars.

but i'm talking about entering your exact amount, and having an updated, easily visible display that shows you the amount, without user interaction.

multi-tasking.

futurama amusing me in the top left,

getting a few things done in photshop in the middle,

mtgoxlive distracting me on the right
2579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / idea for mtgoxlive.com on: August 10, 2011, 07:23:00 AM
sorry i couldn't find an 'official' mtgoxlive thread to post this idea:

it would be cool if you could tell the site how many bitcoins you have for sale, and then it could constantly update how much you could get for them at any given moment.

eg. if you have 2036 btc to sell, you could currently get $20,023.

this is not just a simple exchange-rate calculation as it takes into account all the currently active bid orders.

likewise if you have $53938 to spend, you can right now get 5009 BTC.

would be great if you could input your $ amount, and then watch as the potential BTC amount you could buy fluctates based on the asks.
