2041  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!! on: October 31, 2011, 03:51:10 AM
So does lower difficulty likely mean lower price for BTC?  Do they correlate in both directions?

potentially, if lower difficulty (more quickly) increases supply without a corresponding increase in demand.

It is time to become bear:

interesting screenshot... i didn't realise how different it looked in other browsers (compared to Chrome). it's completely invisible in IE and looks really weird in Opera.

anyway, only 4 blocks left til the drop!
2044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ฿ <- Add this character to your keyboard with Keyboard Layout Creator on: October 31, 2011, 02:10:29 AM
If you want to type the Bitcoin currency character easily, you can add it to your keyboard layout. I'd share my new layout, but I personally use the Colemak layout and no one is using that anyway, I guess.

You can download the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (also works on windows 7) to edit it yourself.
If people let me know what keyboard layout they use, and what location for the ฿ is the most convenient, I might fix up some installers tomorrow.

how do you easily type this character:

i still can't bring myself to deal in baht yet.

2046  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Ads - Pay Per Click - Who is currently available? on: October 31, 2011, 01:24:59 AM
min payout of 5 btc means most people will be waiting years to earn anything from op fab.

but it sounds like you might actually have a chance.

I talked to a guy who said they were paying every 1BTC. I don't know why it's like that. But it would not take a year to make 5 for the few serious sites on there.

sorry, i don't know why i thought 5... i wonder if it has always been 1 btc or if it started out at 5 when they first opened.
2047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to download the block chain on: October 31, 2011, 12:19:19 AM
Download speed of the blockchain is ridicolous and make no sense.

It's a P2P network where there is a 900MB file and pretty much everyone is a seeder. On bittorrent that mean FULL STEAM AHEAD! DOWNLOAD AT FULL SPEED!
It should take like 5 or 10 minutes.

Instead here it take 12+hours.......

a bittorrent download is done completely out of order and the client just continually fills in the blanks.

a blockchain download is done in order and only after block 123 is downloaded will it download block 124*

in addition, file compression would be far more efficient when compressing the entire chain as one big file (for possible deployment on bittorrent), whereas because bitcoin downloads each block separately, the compression over the whole chain is less efficient.

*could be wrong, please get a second opinion.
2048  Other / Off-topic / Re: Self-referential poll on: October 30, 2011, 10:35:37 PM
i didn't think about it for too long but i figured since there are 6 options, then the average would be 16% so 2-20% would be the one to choose.

however over time, more people would probably also realise this and vote on lower numbers, bringing them higher in comparison to options 4, 5, 6.

so i bumped it up a notch and chose 21-35%  ...it's currently on 16.7% but i expect that one might grow to fit correctly over time.

I would love to see someone try to "Regulate" or "Tax" bitcoins.  Roll Eyes

solidcoin on the other hand...
2050  Economy / Speculation / Re: intuitively, which option would you pick? 1, 2 or 3 (see image) on: October 30, 2011, 09:37:02 AM
I agree though, the poll could have been worded better. Wink

yeah i think 'intuitively' was the wrong word choice...

my intuition said go for the EURO because being Aussie, it doesn't look fake to me... we're used to colourful polymer notes. it immediately looks the most valuable, because the others look like pocket change.

choosing rationally on the other hand, i'd go for the c-c-casket coins, even if i don't care to learn how to pronounce their name.
2051  Other / Off-topic / Re: If I google the 1st image search on my id this is what I get. What about you? on: October 30, 2011, 08:15:50 AM
i get this screenshot from btcmerchants.com:

2055  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin PR did fail a bit on: October 30, 2011, 04:10:25 AM
the problem w/ btc is that normal ppl cant steal it, so is very hard to get into that market, so what the ppl steal? well chewing gum, chewing gum are used like currency in country's like Romania -on the same way cigarettes was a currency in Germany or now in jails- so if chewing gum is currency it is stolen, some will stole from the super market come will stole a box and the professionals will take a truck

is so awesome that ppl use alternative currency  Grin
also buy bitcoins the price will go up way up

I'm scared to look through your 500+ post history.

my immediate reaction was that someone new must have gained access to someone else's hero account.

i prefer this quote:

"Bitcoin transactions are all free, with no charges or hidden fees and they are simply a matter of clicking your mouse."

i sent a small deposit... the countdown says Refresh in 3... 2... 1... 0...

then it goes into negative numbers and so far it's up to -84

so i'm not sure if i should refresh the page manually or not, or if that will make me lose my transaction.
