2142  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Half-Life is About 6 Weeks on: October 12, 2011, 04:43:12 AM
Actually at that rate it'll be an incredibly small decimal. How you got a negative is beyond me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm

Sarcasm doesn't hide your stupidity (or ignorance). Face it, you didn't know what half-life was until the OP pointed out your error.

2143  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do NOT use MtGox, they have NO customer service AT ALL on: October 12, 2011, 04:38:37 AM
I just pulled out some BTC, but nothing when it comes to cash.
Also, don't really want to pull a large amount of btc out in case they dont fill the large order and it is in digivoid too. If anyone pulled out like 500 btc + please post..or any cash to dwolla.

can't do 500 because of my limits, but i just requested 100 btc and it got sent to me immediately.

if only $ were that fast... but then we might not have as much need for bitcoin.
2144  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Half-Life is About 6 Weeks on: October 12, 2011, 04:32:11 AM
BTC has fallen from 32 to 16 to 8 to 4 with a half-life of about 6 weeks. If this continues, we'll see $2 by the end of November, $1 by the end of January and $0.50 by March.

2146  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's largest hurdle as a useful currency on: October 11, 2011, 10:58:30 PM
How much volatility is there over one hour ?

you must be new here.

A: with bitcoin, the price could easily swing 50% or more either way in just an hour.

When did that happen last ?

i don't recall it ever happening.
2147  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange accidentally sent 512 bitcoins after coding error on: October 11, 2011, 10:56:04 PM
How do you fail on cut & paste addresses? lol.

that's easy in opera. double-click an address and it comes up with this stupid menu which somehow blocks the ctrl-c keyboard command. (potentially leaving a previously-copied address in the clipboard instead).

2148  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX Withdrawal issue on: October 11, 2011, 10:53:46 PM
yeah to be honest, i'm getting worried.

after weeks of 'pending' i felt quite relieved to become verified, but anxiety returned when i learned their '10x limit increase' statement was wrong and i still have to withdraw bit by bit.

2149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / solidhost.com - reply about bitcoin acceptance on: October 11, 2011, 03:51:22 PM
sorry don't know where exactly to post this... feel free to move it.

i messaged solidhost.com a little bit about bitcoins today:

Quote
Oh, and before I click 'order'... can you tell me what payment options are available? (i.e. Do you accept bitcoin yet?)

Quote
We currently accept PayPal, CreditCard and Bank transfer, but we definitely intend to add more payment methods in the near future.

If you have any additional question, please feel free to ask, I would be happy to assist.

Kind regards,
Miroslava Cvetanovic
SolidHost Sales Department

If you are adding more payment options, please do consider bitcoin, it is really fast and convenient for sending internationally.

Quote
We will take into consideration bitcoin, thank you for your advice.
I will surely speak to our management team regarding that payment method.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional question.

Kind regards,
Miroslava Cvetanovic
SolidHost Sales Department

can someone point me to a relevant thread where this kind of thing is posted all in one place?
2150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin dollar bill on: October 10, 2011, 03:14:57 AM
i should warn people, DO NOT TRY TO MAKE THESE AND PASS THEM OFF AS BITCOIN CURRENCY.

it is a federal crime to do so because it looks like federal reserve notes.

in america.
2151  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Price Predictions on: October 09, 2011, 03:49:09 PM
unless they can somehow remove the 21mil limitation it will be kept to a select few...... now if their was 100mil in circulation things would be up on price.

you think more coins in circulation = higher prices?

Mt.Gox Account Verification

Please use the below form to submit identification documentation to apply for a “Verified” and/or “Trusted” account status.

“Verified” Accounts are eligible for monthly/daily transaction limits of up to 10 times the default limits.

well it seems this is a very misleading statement.

as soon as you become verified, they pretty much retract it.

my verified account says this:

Quote
Mt.Gox Account Verification

Please use the below form to submit identification documentation to apply for a “Trusted” account status.

Your account has a "Verified" status. You may request increased monthly/daily transaction limits up to 100 times the default amount(s)

and says nothing about the "10 times" limit anywhere anymore.

(also i confirmed my limits by attempting a withdrawal, and yes i was shown an error when trying to withdraw more than $1000)
2153  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Mt.Gox problem -- any help welcome! on: October 07, 2011, 02:54:47 AM
We are processing more of the requests tomorrow, so your account should be verified (if all necessary documents are in place) within 24 hours.

how will we know when this occurs? does the account say 'VERIFIED' somewhere in the profile?

or do we just need to keep attempting withdrawals until the 'pending' message goes away.

well, i got an email today saying it's verified!

on the one hand: hooray, thank you!

on the other hand: W T F ??

the verification page at https://mtgox.com/forms/verification very specifically said becoming 'verified' status would increase my limits by 10x

now that i'm actually in verified status, that message has been removed.

could someone who is not yet verified please quote the exact wording on their verification page?

2154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #OccupyWallStreet Idea - Massive promotion on: October 06, 2011, 11:48:39 PM
I just thought of something.  Why haven't the protestors been kicked out with the usual "you don't have a permit" excuse?

They are actually on private property.

i thought ~700 people had already been arrested... what was the reason for that.
2155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NEW Major chain restaurant to accept Bitcoins? on: October 06, 2011, 11:45:45 PM
I heard that you were considering accepting Bitcoins as a payment method.  I just wanted to let you know that I would also be interested in paying with Bitcoins  Please customize your request,  and add any other information for them that you think would be useful.

yeah try not to use the exact same wording Cheesy

good job, Roger

think of a time-frame which seems ridiculously long to you, and then add 10%.

that's what 'soon' means to mt gox support.
That's not fair - I had to deal with them numerous times over the past few months and never had to wait more than one day until my issues were resolved (including reviewing documents for the AML department).

In my experience they were always very responsive and helpful.

awesome Cheesy this is the first time in more than 3 weeks i have ever heard of anyone anywhere having their aml documents reviewed. thanks.
2159  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Mt.Gox problem -- any help welcome! on: October 06, 2011, 07:40:29 AM
We apologize for the delay. Our team is currently reviewing all documents and processing users in queue. Your account will be approved very soon.

 Could you  P L E A S E  quantify -- "soon" is maybe 5 picoseconds to a particle physicist, or maybe 5000000 years to a geologist.

What does "soon" mean when the word is used by Mt.Gox Support ?

to mt gox support: i highly suggest you set up an AUTO-responder on aml@mtgox.com that tells people about that verification url. i suspect most people only find it by chance.
2160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Impressive bitcoin one liners for non bitcoiners on: October 06, 2011, 07:37:53 AM

proof-of-work means when the boss looks over your shoulder you point and say "look what i did!".

does proof-of-work have any other meaning to the average person?

Don't know about the "average person", but "work" is a physics term that measures energy consumed in Joules. One Joule is equal to a watt.second. Finding the "magic number" proves that on average, you expended a certain ammount of energy (given reasonable assumptions about your mining setup).

yep, sure. i was just pointing to the fact that this thread is supposed to be for 'non bitcoiners'.

i guess there are a lot of non-bitcoiners that studied physics, but i took it to mean 'non technically minded people'.
