2221  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generate 1000 addresses on: October 01, 2011, 01:37:42 AM
You can go to this website and it will generate as many public/private key pairs as you want/need:  bitaddress.org

Just use the bulk address option, set the number of rows to 1000 and it will generate a CSV file with 1000 addresses and their corresponding private keys.  All the private key generation takes place on your computer, not on the server, so with some care your private keys are secure.

cool, haven't seen that site before.

if it's truly only done on your local machine, then you should be able to save that page full of javascript and run it offline, yes?

2224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wish Me Luck! I Just Spent Nearly $2000 On Bitcoins! on: October 01, 2011, 01:13:51 AM
You can get 150 bitcoins for about $750 now, really wish that he is lucky enough to have already sold off at the peak Smiley

as i just mentioned, he bought after the peak. so selling at the peak would be a pretty neat trick.
2225  Other / Meta / Re: RFC: new forum software specifications on: October 01, 2011, 01:12:08 AM
currently we have:

Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.

i would like to see a combination called:

Show new replies to your posts since last visit.

so basically when you first click on it, it shows you all the new replies to your posts, but then it also CLEARS that list regardless of which ones you view on that visit.

i don't really need to see List of honest traders every single time i visit the forum, but i'm stuck with it being in my 'new replies' list.

well i don't know if he sold BUT he posted on june 20 which was after the $30 peak and it hasn't been back that high ever since.

Bitcoin's strength is as a method of payment.
no its not

Here in Europe i need 3-4 Days to get RL Money into any Exchange because there is no Credit Card or Paypal pament method.

The world is bigger than the US

'method of payment' has nothing to do with your currency exchange issues.

once you have btc, using them as a method of payment is awesome.

2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin propaganda extreme QR-Code on: September 30, 2011, 06:57:31 AM
If you had a private key in the form of a QR code, how would you get that code into your computer without having to type it?

for most things i would upload it to the link i posted above, however for a private key, i might instead try to find some offline reader.
2233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice wanted on starting a Bitcoin business on: September 30, 2011, 04:30:39 AM
Hello mb300sd,

Your suggestion has been forwarded to our development team for review.

casascius,

If it would help, I'll ask Mark to make a posting to that effect. Furthermore, the email address tied to this account is the Mt.Gox support address.

but forum accounts here don't require email activation, so anyone could do that part.
2234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin would be perfect for youtube on: September 29, 2011, 11:19:28 PM
i have never in all my years on youtube clicked an ad.

has anyone here genuinely been interested in an ad they saw on youtube?
especially interested to hear if anyone has ever clicked an 'overlay' ad on one of the videos.

I do not recall ever clicking on any ad on the internet that wasn't on accident.  Forced embedded video or audio content and overlays will rule the web in the end.

true, i have watched a video ad or two, so my subconscious got marketed to at least.
2235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin propaganda extreme QR-Code on: September 29, 2011, 11:15:23 PM
You know what would be cool? A version of a QR code that gives a message when scanned. Something along the lines of "Greetings! You've discovered bitcoin! Bitcoin is an anonymous digital currency that enables instant payments to anyone. Learn more at http://www.blahblahblah.blah"

that's a lot of data...

Does that actually work!?

yeah if you look at the code you'll see i generated it via a Google API (the same API that i use in the background for links like http://payb.tc/donate/qr):

Code:
http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chs=300x300&chl=Greetings!%20You've%20discovered%20bitcoin!%20Bitcoin%20is%20an%20anonymous%20digital%20currency%20that%20enables%20instant%20payments%20to%20anyone.%20Learn%20more%20at%20http://www.blahblahblah.blah

if you don't have an app on your phone, you can easily decode them here:

2236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin would be perfect for youtube on: September 29, 2011, 11:10:02 PM
youtube's content is financed through the advertisements. that's the underlying business model: build a content platform for videos and finance (good) content through display ads.
so, that's where you should click at  Wink

i have never in all my years on youtube clicked an ad.

has anyone here genuinely been interested in an ad they saw on youtube?
especially interested to hear if anyone has ever clicked an 'overlay' ad on one of the videos.

they'd make more money out of me (more than 0) if they just asked me for a yearly membership fee.

the popup ads on the videos are some of the most irritating on the web.
2237  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best exchange for Australian Dollars to Bitcoins on: September 29, 2011, 07:37:47 AM
Please be aware that Mt.Gox will soon be re-opening an Australian bank account, which will allow our Australian customers to carry out transactions between their account and an Australian bank account once again. We apologize for the suddenness with which we lost the ability to carry out Australian transfers, our partner in Australia, Technocash, quite unexpectedly froze our account with them without any prior communication.

We will be going with a new partner in the future to ensure something similar does not happen again.

what about funds that are currently tied up in technocash? (via mtgox withdrawal for instance)?
2238  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX Withdrawal issue on: September 29, 2011, 03:39:43 AM
I just did a withdrawal from mtgox to Dwolla.  Took about 10 minutes to go through and confirm.

That's encouraging.

Then again, I'm not a raving anti-mtgox conspiracy nut, which pretty much makes me a paid shill by the standards of this thread.  So I don't expect anyone to believe me, nor to try it with their own account.

Really?  After being a customer with them for a year I'm now an anti-mtgox nut for wanting to be able to access my own money in something less than a week after providing documentation?  What would be 'reasonable' customer service in your view?

reasonable customer service would be email reply within 48 hours, regardless of the account status.
2239  Economy / Speculation / Re: No rally? on: September 29, 2011, 03:29:21 AM
Technomage,

I said it before.  It's at a great low to buy but it will stagnate here for a very long time before it finally goes up to 5.50ish and stagnates there.

Once it rose to 5.10, The Manipulator sold 10,000 coins to force it back down.  Any real investor would've just waited for 5.50 or 6 knowing if it dips, it's still a low point they bought at so no worries.

the problem with the manipulator theory, is that if there are 2 such people who don't know each other and are in fact competing with each other, then they'll always try to 'pull the trigger' before the other one.

so selling 10,000 coins at 5.10 may have been in anticipation of someone else selling 10,000 coins at 5.11, destroying his opportunity to do so.
2240  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox Problems on: September 29, 2011, 01:34:49 AM
You could also try to reach someone in #mtgox.  http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#mtgox

i've seen that suggestion so many times on this forum but can't find any guide for non-irc people to actually do it.

i tried using mIRC and also some in-browser chat, and keep getting this:

#mtgox Cannot join channel (+r) - you need to be identified with services

could someone please explain how to be 'identified with services' ??

register your username with NickService

/msg nickserv help

cool thanks, so i type REGISTER and it says Can't use this command in this window.

i really need the 'for dummies' version.

edit: okay worked it out, thanks... i really was doing it like a retard.
but still, it amazes me the hoops one has to go through just to talk to the guy, especially if you're not already familiar with irc.
