1801  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The *Real* Advantages of Bitcoin on: January 22, 2012, 12:56:30 AM
Bitcoin does have advantages, but there are numerous problems with it:

2.  Shady - it's a great way for criminals to transfer money

it's not a problem for those criminals though... you said it yourself, it's 'great'.

i'd say being 'shady' is more of a neutral quality.
1802  Economy / Speculation / Re: Megadumb on: January 21, 2012, 12:21:48 PM
megadumb is apropriate
Since their business was essentially based on piracy, you would have though they would have protected their assets better

maybe they did... maybe what got seized was only 10% of their true assets.
1803  Economy / Speculation / Re: Megadumb on: January 21, 2012, 11:57:59 AM
Megaupload's loads of $M sized & assets frozen but not one Bitcoin was, I wonder if any of them had any - probably not as they didn't bother to protect so much that's already been easily traced & locked down

http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/20/10199528-megaupload-founders-homes-raided-5m-in-luxury-cars-seized

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204301404577174362457114578.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

that might help with protecting cash, but if they're seizing luxury cars, it makes no difference whatsoever whether those cars were bought with fiat or bitcoin... they still get seized.

Code:
echo ($val == 0) ? ' ' : $val;

it would be much easier on the eyes if you could replace all the occurrences of 0.00000 with empty cells.
1806  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin hosting services? on: January 20, 2012, 05:14:29 AM
if you want to run bitcoind, you'd need a dedicated server or vps.

if you're wanting shared hosting, i doubt you'd be able to share a bitcoin wallet.

also, hosts don't 'include' json-rpc... that's just something that you code yourself (eg. in php), which talks to the running instance of bitcoind.

Bankers show interest in Bitcoin
Bitcoin is becoming increasingly mainstream — at least awareness of it, if not actual use
...

That site has a broken link that when fixed, goes to here: http://www.americanbanker.com/issues/177_10/bitcoin-digital-currency-bank-risks-1045734-1.html
Also an interesting article.

As Bitcoin acceptance grows, it could run afoul of federal laws prohibiting the creation of currency that competes with the U.S. dollar.

haha, look out Bank of Japan, the Yen is competing with the U.S. dollar... you're gonna be in big trouble.

EDIT: or you can simply click the "ALL" button next to the page numbers.

wow, that was invisible all this time until you mentioned it.

edit: now i see why it was invisible... that link doesn't appear on long threads like "List of honest traders". i guess because there are so many pages.
1809  Other / Meta / Re: How do we unsubscribe from a thread topic? on: January 20, 2012, 02:16:02 AM
what worked for me in the past is to list the thread with .all in the url.

please elaborate / provide example link

movie computer needs to be as silent as possible.

mining computer is about as noisy as it gets.

seems strange to me that anyone would attempt watching a movie while mining.

I'd rather make money watching a movie than lose money watching a movie.  I can deal with a little extra background noise while watching my wallet grow larger.  Wink

This.

Speakers on max = win

depends on the movie Cheesy "I am Legend" comes to mind, where he's looking for his dog in the dark concrete building... it's supposed to be almost dead silent in those scenes. no flashing LEDs either!

In those sorts of scenes, I appreciate the extra noise!   Shocked

Guess he missed the water drops in the background...your loss, not mine payb.tc =]

i made the stupid decision to watch that movie at the cinema, so mainly i just heard two indian ladies chatting.

1) Source code form must fit in 1.4 MB compressed (the smaller the better).

how about 1.44mb? dusting off those old TDK's huh? Cheesy

Your best bet is probably click the thread, then search your name... search is scoped to the thread you're in.

yeah i've done that a few times... it only finds posts by other people who have quoted me.

and you can't do 'advanced search' just within a particular thread.
1815  Other / Meta / Re: How do we unsubscribe from a thread topic? on: January 19, 2012, 11:12:01 PM
You only have 59 pages of posts... also, jump to page 40, they're in order.

oh 59... why to page 40? i don't get why you're telling me they're in order.

You said they were from long ago.... jump to that point in time.

uh, you're right... i mean to say they *could be* from long ago... the point was, i don't know where in that long list they are.

i tried this for a few, but having trouble finding my posts in the 90+ paged threads.

"Show the last posts of this person." from your profile also works.

yeah, but the 90 page threads in question are so long ago, i'd have to go through 90 pages of my previous posts to find them Smiley

maybe this is why atlas had so many forum accounts... to save him from manually deleting individual posts Cheesy

How do we unsubscribe from a thread topic?
Y'know, Like "Show new replies to your posts" How do we remove threads from there, Like.. Stop following them..
I just cant find the freakin button

my button is called delete post. i press it for each submission i contributed in that forum.
it's only a workaround for the real & missing button but it kinda works.
if your posts were useful, someone quoted you and it's preserved

i tried this for a few, but having trouble finding my posts in the 90+ paged threads.

965 BTC in withdraws for today.

it would probably be helpful if some lenders could help confirm that... although i'm sure most want to remain private.
