3141  Economy / Economics / Re: US Dollar collapse in 2015? (2) on: April 18, 2015, 03:20:25 AM
...

I am late to this party, but my thinking is that the US$ will be fairly strong against almost all of the other major currencies in 2015.

NIRP (negative rates) in Europe will likely drive money here to our Treasuries.  And conditions are bad there in Europe...  I note Italy where we have friends, sea-borne migrants from Libya apparently just tossed some Christian migrants overboard.  Murder.  And there are lots of Muslims in Europe along with many other problems (based on Socialism).

Yes, the USA has its own problems and corruption, and on a near epic scale.  But, IMO the US Dollar will reign supreme for a while.

Still, that is just my opinion.  You may want to buy gold (etc.) if you do not own some.  Why not join "the other 1%" (owners of physical investment gold)?

Bitcoin is another diversification...

redsn0w is right, a brief search of BTC mixing threads here at bitcointalk probably has all the info you need to know to find a reputable mixing service.

bitmixer.io works great (I m not affiliated with them other than being a happy customer and in their ad campaign).

Sharedcoin (I believe it only works with blockchain.info wallets) also works just fine.

The above two seem to use different techniques to mix the coins, I find the whole topic of great interest...

Smiley

I know nothing about the various ".onion" services as I do not use TOR.  Nor have I used any other mixing service.

In these weird times, and with the risk of further loss of rights leading to dictatorship, I think it always smart to be as prepared as is "reasonable" (you married guys will understand "reasonable").

Any and all of these are better than nothing: gold, guns & ammo, water & food production capability, Bitcoin (mobile money...), debt avoidance, a passport, rural land, repair skills, etc.

Full preparation on such a scale is almost impossible...  But, as the saying goes: "you don´t have to be able to run faster than the bear, just faster than the next guy..."

*  *  *

TPTB_need_war argues differently.  A Knowledge Age is to come (soon?), and it DOES make sense to enhance your skill set.  I have no problem with that.

But no one can predict the future with much accuracy (certain kinds of predictions might be more obvious, I will concede that), so diversification in preparation (like in your investments) only seems smart.
3144  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How is BitMixer.io? Successful service or no go poll! | Stats for us all on: April 18, 2015, 02:48:31 AM

I have used them many times, every time has worked out fine with just one glitch (and that was resolved OK).  They seem to be relatively inexpensive, they also seem to use a different mixing algorithm than blockchain.info´s SharedCoin (also a good mixer).

I am not affiliated with them in any way, other than receiving 0.0007 BTC per post (signature campaign) and of course being a happy customer.

Carefully follow their instructions, and you will be fine.  <===

As Lorenzo (above) said, do not use bitmixer.info!

Re the Philippines, a friend of mine sent me good news!  Seems they have found palladium there:

Palladium is one of the platinum group metals, it also has unique properties that would be very useful if hydrogen fuel cells (esp. for cars) catch on.

Good luck to you all.

Martin Armstrong is interviewed (first time I have ever heard him) for some 30 minutes here:

http://investmentwatchblog.com/martin-armstrong-fall-2015-turning-point-civil-unrest-and-riots-big-losses-coming-in-the-bond-market-gold-rises-when-people-lose-confidence-in-government/

tl;dr version:

Don't buy bonds (US rates going up) or euros (big trouble in Euroland).

Maybe I need to get a life (or sumpthin'), but I saw several interesting public notes (inc. one from a self-proclaimed junkie from India) at the below as well as factom.org trx:

https://blockchain.info/address/1HktZquxWcseRTkkSTPWSVtL2Cfdhus2sj

I saw a comment in another thread wondering how some very small transactions are worthwhile unless they somehow avoid the miner's fees.

Sí Señor TPTB, I am married (in fact our only daughter marries soon).  So as you suggest, no, I would not be interested in a "Filipinas R Us" website.  Smiley

And, correct, I would not want to cause or be a part of any sleazy DDoS or similar.

5000 lines of code is a lot to keep track of for one man.  I have enough problems writing SQL (the only thing I am even half-assed in).

*   *   *

I did see along "Armstrong Way" at some point words to the effect of: "don't worry about the way things should be, instead look at what is."

It's interesting how men whose opinions I respect (in philosophy and religion) say the same.
3149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: factom transactions... on: April 11, 2015, 07:19:20 PM

Ahh, dust...  Well that would make sense that factom.org is sending out 12 cents (each) for name recognition.

That works out to some 0.0005 BTC per recipient.

Hey, factom!  Send some dust my way!   Smiley

And factom might communicate more about what they are doing (I am on their email list).  They are working an interesting niche that may wind up being big business.
3150  Economy / Economics / Re: One-world reserve currency inevitable and will enslave all nations? on: April 11, 2015, 07:14:41 PM
...

I do not know what is going to happen.  But it will probably be bad.  Maybe very bad.  Preparation of whatever sort possible that makes you comfortable is a must.

Armstrong, IMO, is at least trying to look at the many, many variables that all relate to one another, rather than just looking at, for example, price of oil (inc. futures prices) and gold.  If he has his big computers grinding away on how these variables all interact with one another, that is more than almost anybody else on the planet is doing.

Does that give him more prediction power than individuals, even highly skilled ones?  I don't know.

But I would be inclined to listen to Armstrong and his debating partner here.

Re one world currency to enslave us all, well yes it could happen.  But I do not think that is a stable outcome, just look at the Euro...

CoinCube & TPTB_n_w

As far as I am concerned the recent contributions on this thread do fit the general nature of "Economic Devastation".

CC, I was yanking your chain re Collectivist a couple of pages back...  I think it is ILLEGAL for true Marxists to start internet threads on topics like Economic Devastation.

TPTB, If you now have a business website up, why not post it, and let us take a look?

*   *   *

While reading through the past 25 or so posts here I encountered the idea, developed a bit, re governments devolving quickly or slowly.  I am not competent to offer a good prediction as to when/how "The System" will collapse, but my inclination is to think it will likely happen fast.  That seems to be the nature of big changes historically.

*   *   *

Armstrong is emphatic on one idea that I have taken to heart.  Instead of worrying about "what should be", more personal efforts (preparation, education) should be devoted instead to "what actually is".  I have taken to evangelizing less and trying harder to actually SEE and understand what is going on.  And then acting accordingly.

As a personal example, I think that President H. Clinton would likely be bad for the USA.  (Not for the elites though)  But am I trying to do anything about that?  No, unless you count the jokes at her expense I send to my 'Net buddies...  Instead, I am trying to prepare for a host of scenarios, many of them bad, that could shake-out.  In other words, looking our for myself and our lil ol family.

While I have read some of Denninger, opinions I respect call him a douche.  Or would that be Douchinger?
3152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / factom transactions... on: April 11, 2015, 06:38:02 PM
...

I have been noticing more and more factom.org transactions at coinsecrets.com.  factom seems to be the largest player in "hashed data storage" on the blockchain.

I am guessing that their BTC address (or one of them anyway) is this:

1FactomGnNFTsTVx8jiGjcLKDpyL65GDsH

Checking that address at blockchain.info yields a lot of interesting looking transactions, most of them for $0.12.

Hey, just reporting a curiosity here...
3153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cryptography. on: April 10, 2015, 05:52:43 PM
...

This is a a great topic.  I am not qualified either to look at the open-source code to make a judgement as to whether or not there are any hidden back-doors and related.

Has anyone really good at coding and cryptography here at bitcointalk (or anyone else who presumably could be trusted) taken a good hard look at this?

I have seen various comments about how robust the three encryption techniques are, but I have not run into a definitive study as to how robust BITCOIN is to snooping, back-doors, etc.

A real third party in 2016 pretty much (no one can be sure) means a President Hillary.  The third party, IMO, would likely be a Tea Party, especially if the R-Team chooses Jeb.

And a President Hillary likely means moar war as well as Economic Devastation.

President Hillary?  Hey, TPTB_n_w, would you have a spare bedroom over there?   Wink

Self-pity is counter-productive, I have no quarrel with that.  You are also right that unproductive people who resent productive ones MAY (in time) understand that being productive is the key to success.

The point I was driving at is that fear and resentment are negative emotions that just make things worse.  Fear and resentment can be beaten to a degree much more so than most people imagine.

I try to avoid "the power of positive thinking" sorts of remarks, in that they may be viewed as trite or BS.  But, there is at least some truth to positive thinking.  Actually, it looks to me like you are a great example, you kept at it through difficult times in a positive manner, and did not wallow in self-pity nor become burdensome to others (a form of slavery).

repugnant (m_d_s)

Thank you for your (long!) pieces by Howard Katz, I had not run into him before.  I took some time to read about a third of the excerpts you quoted, it will take more for me to finish.  So far, I think that his observations and analysis are most excellent.

His idea of "love societies" turning into murderous ones is a take I have not seen either.  I need to read more thoroughly before I can comment further, but thanks again for bringing Katz to our attention.

Correct re living with nature (life) as it is, not as how it should be.

I am glad that you are feeling better, those of us in our 50s need all the good news we can get.

CoinCube

I never did have you pegged as a Collectivist!  Marx, although he did uncover some analytical tools, is indeed to a great degree responsible for many hideous deaths.

In general, I go with whichever side of the argument at hand is most positive for personal liberty.  Lower taxes.  GTFO of my hair.  Fewer rules benefiting any "elite du jour".

And now look at the cops (USA).  Word comes in today of a cop who shot a guy in the back as he was running away.  I cannot remember (just my own observation) when the cops actually ever prevented a crime in my life (or a loved one's).  The cops/NSA/Police State are making me nervous...

l3552

Your comments here are very useful  Fear and resentment are much more destructive than most people know.

Control of one's own mind is much greater than I had realized until maybe a year or so ago.  You can beat fear (and other negative emotions) to a greater degree than almost everyone thinks.  It takes time and work, but it can be done.  Smiley

I can only speak from my experience, but I like the Ledger Nano a lot.  So far it seems to be secure (but when setting make sure you use a "clean" computer).  The price is great (some $30 (?) if I remember right).  It uses a rudimentary "2FA" (two factor authentication) which is perfectly OK if you do not use it much (that is, you should use it for cold storage rather than small frequent transactions).

The Trezor is good too, it also has a rudimentary "2FA".

Both are pretty easy to use.

I have not run into websites or discussions that prove to me that one is better than the other.  There are various links here at bitcointalk which discuss these two as well as other hardware wallets.

Yes, re blockchain.info's security enhancements.  I never could get their 2FA to work well with mine (this was several months ago, maybe that has changed).

So, yes, the "second password" helps at least some.  I still only keep a low balance with blockchain.info.

I like the Trezor too.  Don't forget the Ledger Nano!  Latter is cheap and seems to work well too.

My second order from Veldt Gold arrived today.  USPS was slow in their shipping and I was not in during their delivery window on Friday.  Paid w/ BTC.

I am now two for two with Veldt.  Highly recommended.  Their Customer Service is helpful as well.

Gold (or Ag or Pt, etc.) AND Bitcoin are both good diversification in stormy economic times.
3160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How bitcoins get confiscated? on: April 06, 2015, 05:54:36 PM

Scatter your Bitcoin around to at least four wallets ( I would have two or so online and two or so on hardware like Ledger or Trezor).  Save two of them (say) for .gov when they come calling.  And have other BTC hidden away.  Make sure they are mixed to cover the trail.

When The Man starts threatening, give up the smaller wallets (if you have covered your trail well).

Almost NO ONE can withstand torture.  If giving away the decoy BTC wallets does not stop .gov, then nothing will.  Once the torture starts for real, you would give them the others.

But, it is worth a try to let them have the decoys first.
