1101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Possible scam alert? 1 THs BTC miner for 0.95 BTC? on: May 25, 2014, 12:45:51 AM
Hey guys, I was on freebitco.in and saw a banner ad for a supposed great deal on Bitcoin miners. The site is http://lightningasic.me/ and they are offering 1 THs BTC miners for 0.95 BTC. To me that sounded too good to be true. However, they do claim to be from China, where I'm guessing it would be possible to assemble and sell a 1 THs miner for .95 BTC and still make a profit. But, I don't know... I just didn't have a good feeling reading over it.

For starters- that is Way below all other competitors for 1 THs (that I know of). I understand the concept of charging lower prices and in turn selling more units, but I feel that price is suspiciously low.

Second- they claim Free worldwide shipping to have your order in 3-4 days Max.

Third- It seems they have a deal if you want to buy 10 of the 1 THs miners, you can get them for 7.2 BTC. "Pay with Bitcoin" button below...
I'm sure they would be more than happy to take your 7.2 BTC....

Anyways guys, this is just how I feel. Check the site out yourself and let me know what you think. I am not even a miner, I'm just trying to look out for you guys/our community.

P.S.- If many people have done successful business with this company, and they are legitimate, I will apologize fully and take this thread down upon seeing proof of successful transaction.

^ What exactly is that chart supposed to represent? i.e. "late majority" losing 34%? Or what? Just wondering what those percentages refer to.
1103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BTCtalkcoin [TALK] Airdrop Details - Starts May 17 on: May 20, 2014, 05:20:03 AM
I checked my wallet earlier and nothing is synced up. This is probably a noob question, but the address I PM'd BCC Dev weeks ago for the airdrop was one generated from the BCC client on my computer. If I update and download the newest, working version, would I still have that same address? It has never been used.

If you download the latest rev (1.5) you also have to delete your old rev 1.4 blockchain, before you start the new rev -  it will re-load the most up to date version.  Keep your wallet.dat file - this is where your addresses (public keys and coins) are kept. This is the same for any coins.  If you are on Windows, the blockchain is located in an hidden file on your computer: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\BTCtalkcoin  (You have to set your File Explorer to show hidden files, to access it.)

The blockchain consist of all the files in that directory, EXCEPT the wallet.dat file that holds your keys (coins) - "my precious".   The peer.dat file should also be deleted, in the case of BCC, as it pertains to old Rev 1.4 nodes, that were mingled with the PartyCoin users (unless you liked their latest party  Wink ).   But not too many PartyCoin users liked BCC, as they used to "Crash" their party...  you see, BCC Rev 1.4 and PartyCoin used to share the same network...  BCC Rev 1.5 solved that issue.

Thanks man, that was indeed a very detailed answer that helped a lot. And thanks a Ton for explaining how to get to AppData/ApplicationXhere. I had seen AppData mentioned in configuring many applications, but could never find it on my (Windows) computer.

1105  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Marijuana Legalization Is Destroying Mexican Drug Cartel Business on: May 18, 2014, 04:15:31 AM
I don't understand. The Mexican drug cartels mostly deal with cocaine (which is actually trafficked from the South American nations such as Bolivia and Colombia). Cannabis accounts for only a small part of their business.

It is more than you think.
Marijuana will only be nationally legal when they make more money from taxing and regulating it than they do prohibiting it. Yes, of course there is tons of money to be made off of taxes, but drug prohibition funds many of the alphabet soup agencies, along with cash/property/drugs taken in seizures, money made from private prisons/prison labor, community corrections/probation fees, etc.
1106  Other / Off-topic / Re: Another Reason Why I Don't Use Hotmail Anymore on: May 17, 2014, 05:35:36 AM
I use gmail it is pretty good for me, no problem so far. It does not bother me that they at google read and spy your mails anymore. (Microsoft does that too, so whatever)

It's almost common place that we're spied upon everyday. If not our emails, its our text, calls, facebook, twitter, forum comments. The list goes on..they keep collecting until they find a reason to use it.

Truth. Sad truth, but still. A few years ago before Sno.wden and WikiL eaks, what you just said would have gotten you labeled a "nutcase conspi.racy theorist." There is definitely no privacy left in mainstream products/society, but it can be accomplished. Everyday they try to shut down part of anonymity, on the web and elsewhere. That is why everyone must call/write/lobby against CISPA, SOPA, and any others that will follow.

Anyways, on topic- I also use a hotmail email account for most everything. Same reason a few of you have said already, I've had it forever and it's just rolled with me through time. I expect no real privacy, and most major accounts have some form of 2FA.
What is a good place for me to start learning about and getting an encr.ypted email service?

If it wasn't for all the raging-against-the-machine-rhetoric folks would take the practical aspects of this more seriously.
When we see the reality that the machine is a dystopia, as tragic as any work of fiction, why should we not rage against it?

+1 for that awesome Rage Against the Machine video.

And the dollar value chart is just sad. This is why I always tell people that, yes- rallying for a minimum wage increase is a good thing, but you should be more concerned with inflation. Rapid inflation from printing Way too much worthless paper money over the years is the main reason why your $7.50 McDonalds hourly wage is barely enough to survive on. The people should support an audit of the Federal Reserve.

Thank you very much kind sir. I really need to bookmark the Bitcoin wiki, I've seen it a couple times and never remember to look into it.

Going to read now, so I'm guessing now that this is a BTC specific thing?
When and if my website starts generating some income, I would love to tip all of the helpful replies.
1109  Other / Off-topic / Re: Drugs are legal on: May 16, 2014, 05:10:49 AM
Interesting thread. I love discussing the Constitution and the rights of U.S. citizens. It is always Very important to know your rights. I am and have been very interested in national and global politics for a while, just recently I finished a Political Science class. Good shit, I recommend it.

While it's true that things are pretty messed up in the bureaucratic systems and we have moved further away from the Constitution, the Constitution itself is vague on most all of today's situations. So in most cases, the Constitution needs to be somewhat interpreted to see how it will apply to that situation. There are many people who are pro-interpretation and many that are die-hard "as it was written" Constitutionalists. What this all boils down to is if there is a case involving subjects that are not explicitly defined in the Constitution, i.e. drugs, what happens is it ends up at the U.S. Supreme Court, where the judges there decide what should/should not be legal according to the Constitution. What they rule in these situations often sets a precedent for future cases, and is usually "assumed" into law.
1110  Other / Off-topic / Re: The police are in my house on: May 16, 2014, 04:43:04 AM
I'm a strong supporter of the Constitution and while I could debate the 1st Amendment and dank's rights, I don't have the time. But mainly I read what he (dank) was saying and it really reminded me of my most-likely schizophrenic brother-in-law. I don't mean this in any offensive manner, but I just hope you don't talk to people like he does, when speaking of and/or fueled by "God" and his beliefs. I hope you don't hold so much anger towards them when advocating for a "hippie" lifestyle.

Also- pay that guy on here back all those BTC that you owe him. You speak of Karma which is something I try to live by myself and teach my daughter. I would try to make at least small regular payments which would probably go a long way.
1111  Other / Off-topic / Testnet? on: May 16, 2014, 04:35:03 AM
I've been working on a website for a couple weeks now, and teaching myself HTML and CSS, etc. as I go. I've never been very tech savvy before in my life, at least as far as computer software, hardware, and code. I was just never really heavy into computer gaming and the specs behind my PC. Looking back at Bitcoin, it seems like it was designed in favor of computer geeks (I mean this in a good way) and gamers. So with that and many other computer related things I am behind in life, but working to catch up.

That's why I'll need some help from you guys here along the way, several of you have been very helpful so far with my noob domain/web hosting questions. Today's question is about "testnet." I've seen this used in discussion here a few times. From my guess it seems like a way both a buyer and seller could test out code in a safe network where they can both monitor it/check it. Is that correct at all? It was just my assumption based on the context I've seen it in. I asked a question in a thread and it was deleted, which is part of the reason I'm asking here and now.

TL;DR- What is testnet?
1112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Richest dude in Asia, going hard on Bitcoin on: May 15, 2014, 05:29:20 AM
This is a great show of confidence in Bitcoin and our network/system. It's funny, I was just thinking after looking at the article that he kind of looks like an Asian Warren Buffet (the guy on the left that is), which he is the opposite of due to his faith in BTC. I think this is a great long-term investment for him, and will probably benefit his other BTC investments in the long-term. I'm sure he's got other BTC investments or at least is a holder of some in a secure wallet.

The one thing I Don't like from the article is this:
"A US government report published on Monday said if Beijing successfully prevents Chinese users from accessing bitcoin, price declines would continue and threaten its legitimacy."
I don't like thinking about the US gov trying to squash Bitcoin. Hopefully that would just make it more popular though.
1113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Glenn Beck calls bitcoin Edison's light bulb! on: May 15, 2014, 04:57:13 AM
^ Political theater is a good way of putting it. Not sure how I feel about Glenn Beck overall. I definitely respect his self-made success, and appreciate probably most of what he says. But he can be somewhat of an alarmist. However, he does have some very die hard followers. Them wanting to buy Bitcoin as some sort of a hedge against disaster (similar to stockpiling bottled water, canned food, supplies, etc.) doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.
Note - I have not watched the video yet, I'm currently doing like 5 things at once.

You are an ass wipe and a brown nose, that got paid to post on this board, kick rocks bitch, i almost spilled my coffee reading your comments whispered in your ear by a nasty wench.

That was awesome, man. I was literally thinking the same things though. "Oh, you lost all of these peoples' money but you are such a great leader!"
Is that similar to calling Mark Karpeles a hero?

I haven't been following CR much, but I feel for all of our community that got fucked by them. Hackers, coins getting lost, and irreversible transactions seem to be part of the times right now for Bitcoin.
1115  Other / Off-topic / Re: n00b web publishing questions - help appreciated! on: May 12, 2014, 04:57:41 PM
Thanks for all the helpful info. guys. I did end up going with Linux, shortly after asking on here I Google'd it and saw that was just a rookie misconception (and that your OS at home does not really matter at all when picking what system your company will use on their servers.)

I will definitely check out that Apache Friends site when I have time. Free web hosting does sound nice for getting started, but I know many sites run ads on your page to cover costs, or it's slower/not as reliable. I ended up getting a pretty sweet deal only paying $12 total for my domain name and a year of hosting.

Spent all night figuring out FTP (I was over-complicating things) and downloaded Cyberduck first, then decided to go with Filezilla instead. Think I finally have all of that down, now it's time to just slowly tweak my page to where I want it. It may have been much simpler than I made it out to be, but I'm happy with the results, because besides from your advice and a Youtube video or two, I'm learning as I go. And that feels way better than using some template.
1116  Other / Off-topic / Re: n00b web publishing questions - help appreciated! on: May 12, 2014, 05:54:52 AM
Well, that plan is not very cheap, but seems good...

If you just want to gain knowledge go with some free hosting, pretty good for practice and when you're ready to publish a functioning website you can buy that plan.

Always choose linux for web hosting, if you need windows for hosting a website you will know it.

You send the files via ftp, details will be given to you upon registration.

Domain privacy always.

Thanks for the response, sorry I'm a bit late responding to this, the last few days have been crazy with my girl's family. As it's listed it is not that cheap, but as I said I have some pretty decent promo codes. The one I'm going with for instance is $1 a month for economy hosting with a 12 month or over purchase plan. What that means to me is that buying my domain name, the domain privacy protection, and web hosting for a year is under $20. If you or anybody else reading this is interested in the promo codes, PM me.

I don't think I have access to free hosting... but not sure. I don't mind paying for a year for that price, I'm really getting into writing HTML and other code, and this would give me great incentive to get my site finished and where I want it.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but could I use Linux even though I have a Windows OS on my computer?
1117  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-05-07] Silk Road 2.0 Now Larger Than Silk Road Ever Was on: May 12, 2014, 05:41:25 AM
Escrow is not safe either.

Plenty of site operators have stolen escrow funds.

Multisig escrow is the only way you can even claim your money is safe

I've heard Multisig escrow in conversation and threads on here many times. What is it (besides a form of escrow obv.) and how does it work?
1118  Other / Off-topic / n00b web publishing questions - help appreciated! on: May 10, 2014, 05:40:37 PM
Hey guys, recently I've been teaching myself writing HTML and other code, and have designed a website. I would now like to get this online, and I would just like someone to go over the steps with me if they would.

For now, I've been thinking about going with GoDaddy for web hosting, especially because I currently have access to some wonderful promo codes from them.

http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=87227

So for now I was going to go with an "economy" plan on GoDaddy to host a single website.
All of their plans include: A free domain name, Free email addresses, Unlimited bandwidth, 24/7 security monitoring and DDoS protection, a whole bunch of credits towards advertising programs like Google's AdWords, and a few more features.

I know most web hosting companies offer templates, or build-your-own-site programs where they walk you through it and you can customize a few things. However, I'm not wanting to do that, I want my site to be something I made myself. For choosing your operating system, you can choose Linux with cPanel control panel, or Windows with Plesk control panel. I am on a Windows OS, I don't have Linux, so that choice is clear.

You can choose to add a SSL certificate for $69.99 a year. For the time being, my site won't be conducting any financial transactions, and when I do start doing things like that, I'm just going to list a BTC address for receiving payments. I don't plan on having anything on my site (at the moment) where users need a username and/or password. So do I need to purchase an SSL certificate? It's helpful if I don't because I can't afford it right now anyways.  Sad

You can choose to protect yourself with private registration of your domain for $7.99 a year, which "Hides your personal information - name, email, address and phone number - in the public WHOIS directory, Prevents domain-related spam, Helps stop domain hijacking, and Helps protect against stalkers and harassers." I will most likely do this, who doesn't like privacy??

Anyways, people with experience- how does this plan sound? And what is my next step if I purchase this plan? Do I send my files to GoDaddy and then they will display them on my webpage? Sorry for all the n00b questions, and thanks in advance to anyone that reads through this and can help.

Are these legit guys? I don't know much about web hosting or anything like that, but I need some advice because I've been wanting to get a site up that I've been working on.

Respected community members- Is this a good deal? Is there anyway I could get fucked/scammed here? For a site that deals with BTC transactions, would it be better to get a non-US domain or something? Sorry for the n00b questions, and thanks in advance for any and all advice/help.

I already told that this coin is a Scam. It won't get fixed until the BCCdev(actually an indian scammer) invest some BTC to get it fixed  Tongue

Edit: Pay me 0.1 BTC and I will fix this crashing issue

Edit again: I will charge 0.3 BTC now to fix this crashing issue

^ Are you serious right now dude?

Making baseless claims calling someone else a scammer, then asking for 0.1 BTC to fix something? Money that would disappear as soon as it was sent most likely. Wow.
