1821  Other / Off-topic / Re: Team USA will play in the Philippines for the FIBA WORLD CUP 2023 on: December 29, 2022, 04:50:19 PM
Why so much concern about the ticket pricing? The lowest tier starts at $45, which I believe is fair. Average monthly wages in Philippines are around $500, so it is not like the tickets are very expensive. First of all, we need to congratulate the FIBA, for their decision to stage this major tournament in Asia. Had they hosted it in the United States, then in all probability they would have earned much higher profits. But they selected an Asian country, in order to popularize the sport further. My respect towards FIBA has increased a lot as a result of this.

$45 for the tickets are not bad at all to see some of the greatest in the game.  Maybe relatively speaking because of wage discrepancies, but in the US those ticket prices would go for hundreds if not thousands of $ for closer seats.  Price of entertainment is high but worth it if you are a die hard fan.

Looks like we've got some decent games to bet on today in the NBA.  I may find myself laying down a parlay on the Lakers to beat the Magic, 76ers to beat the Wizards, and the Celtics to beat the Rockets.  I think there are good odds for those to all play out.  We'll see of course as I haven't had a chance to look at who is out for the games tonight.  With LeBron saying the Lakers are at the point where they need to have a sense of urgency, I like their odds tonight over the Magic, who many thought would be trying to tank this season.  The only "sure thing" bet tonight seems like it would be the Celtics though.  They're playing great and the Rockets are one of the worst teams in the league.  That should be an easy W.

Never won any money betting on NBA, Just crazy results there. Few  days ago bet on Memphis against OKC with tons of injury, and OKC beat them

That's gambling on any sport.  If it were easy or a sure bet everyone would lay in.

On another note I know I am biased with my knicks but I think this is an interesting matchup at this point in the year.  A good measuring stick.  On the road against a Dallas team with the same record and they decently match up.  The tough matchup will be grimes on Luka.  Interested to see how the kid hangs with Luka.  You can't stop him but you can contain him and force some bad shots along the way.  Can't wait to watch.

Just coming out of the shock of how that game ended.  Knicks were up by 9 with 30 seconds to go and lost.  In the last 20 years teams that were down 9 with less than 30 seconds to go were 0-13,000+.  No lie now it's 1-13,000 lol.  Luka dropping 60/20/10, lol.  The only good thing is that the knicls were without rj and brunsen running the point and still played well for the first 47.5 minutes.  Move on, now gotta play San Antonio tonight.  They NEED to win.

It's neither, it will be a footnote in crypto history just like Mt got was.  Same thing.  Will some people get turned off by crypto for awhile, maybe.  But eventually when people realize exchanges that aren't insured are not personal wallets like people treat them as.  In the end I know a lot of people who now don't trust leaving theor coin on exchanges which is a good thing.  Personal wallets where people control theor own keys is the paramount of crypto.  Either way like I said I think it will be as much of a thing as my gox is/was, nothing more nothing less.

same here NFL and NBA i love sports just horrible with betting on them trying to watch here to see if i can find the posters that seem to win the most and start mirroring what they do.  regarding gambling i'm best at lotteries, cash3, cash 4,  pick 5 numbers.

How are you best at lotteries?  By nature they are just random ypu can't be good or bad at them.  With sports you can use your insight and sports knowledge to bet.  I mean this is a little off topic for this thread but how are ypu good at lottery?

Some good matchups tonight so far here is my picks:

Knicks on road at Dallas +5
Boston at home against the Rockets-14.5
Memphis at home against the Suns-8
Denver -3.5 on the road against the kings.  Jokic has been an absolute monster.

Good luck tonight everyone.
1827  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 26, 2022, 10:21:56 PM
This season, Aaron Gordon is without a doubt improving. He appeared to be a failure earlier in Denver. He shoots the ball only when necessary, which further improved his efficiency. The defense of Denver is not well-known, but with Gordon, they are getting close to achieving a balance between offense and defense.
If I am not mistaken he is on the list of the most improved player of the year.
Denver Nuggets suddenly became a championship caliber again mostly because their starters are back and healthy.
Murray was feeling it and he is dunking which means the mental problem after healing is gone. That means a lot for players who went through that phase.
Now, I am waiting for Porter Jr. to return from being their sharpshooter, he is not there yet but once that happens they will be one scary team.
I think Gordon was mold into a defensive stopper by Denver, like what Iggy has been when he join the Warriors years ago. And that is why we didn't see flashes of him dunking or scoring like he was with the Magic.

And he didn't need to be a scorer, they have Jokic, Murray and Porter Jr.

But last game, that dunk though, reminds me of Kobe over Nash.

I think referees need to stop calling charges on monster dunks like that. The defender should meet him in their air to try and block, or get out of the way and let us see the highlight. I think the NBA will do something about this before too long. That play was dangerous for Gordon and everyone would love to see more of it. Defenders sliding under him is the last thing anyone wants.

How do you differentiate between someone who is dunking versus someone who is yet to go up for a dunk and run into a player.  Too easy to confuse the two.  Rule will stick or the entire charging rule will need to be changed.  They aren't going to change them just for people who go up for dunks.

Bunch of good games on today I like four of them.

Bulls -7.5 against the Rockets
Jazz on the road -4.5 against the Spurs
Pelicans at home -2.5 at home against the Pacers

Going to check out some of the over unders but this is what I have so far.  Good luck everyone!

Doge can go 1$ many people waiting that.

What if bitcoin goes to $5million then does doge going to $1 seem like a good thing?  What about if bitcoin dive to $5k dollars.  Perception on value needs to change with altcoins.  You should look for it to gain in sats rather than usd, and then let bitcoin determine its usd value

Typical crypto bear market.  Was a rough year but a much needed one.  With every massive bubble this pop needs to happen.  I expect next year to be some sideways numbers, I don't expect it to continue to fall at this massive rate.  Then hopefully by 2025 or so we start going back up.

How in the world did SBF decide that gambling was the best course of action for recovering the funds? It seems to me that he has terrible friends around him.  Have you ever thought of gambling as way to recover your funds and pay your debts? Does this look like a case of compulsive gambling?

Because he is just some guy.  People make him out to be some smart savvy dude.  He used quick books to run his company ff sake.  He is just a small time idiot who hit it big on ftx and for some reason people used his exchange for their personal wallet with him holding the keys to that fortune.  People who kept money there are just as stupid as Sam is/was.  Dude gonna sit in the Bernie madoff cell now.

Liss poor game by the Knicks.  Blew rhs 44 point night.  The ending of that game last night was brutal.  Jaylen brunson missed 2 free throws while the Knicks were up 1 point which would have stretched it to 2.  Then derozen with a last second fade away shot to win by 1 point.  Brutal...that's the game though onto the next one.

Couple good games on tonight.  Laying off my knicks tonight without knowing if grimes is playing or not.  Tonight I like:

Sixers at home -3.5
Atlanta at home -8.5
And I like the under on the miami/Pacers game 223.5

Good luck everyone

3 for 3 good way to end the week going into a no game nba day.  Tomorrow christmas lineup is a good one.  The sixers made me sweat out that win taking the game by 5 and that under barely hit at 219 but it hit.  For some reason heat and Pacers games always are tough defensive games.  Will enjoy the day off and get back at it tomorrow!

These posts come up every cycle.  The quick answer is no one knows otherwise everyone would win.  Half the people will say no the other half will say yes and whoever is right will say "see I told you" and think they can predict future crypto markets.  Funny but it happens every year.
1835  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can CEX's prove their solvency? on: December 23, 2022, 10:32:05 PM
Honestly I don't think they ever could.  The easiest way to solve these issues is to NOT use the exchange as a personal wallet.  Deposit, trade and move your crypto off.  Little to no risk so long as it's a reputable CEX with little time of exposure.

Celtics are doing fine, it's okay to have losing streaks time to time, allows players to get out of that mindset of everything is guaranteed. If you keep winning all season, the players wouldn't know what to do when they are losing, so you need to have some losses here and there in order to make them realize even they could lose, no matter how good they were before, they are in a loss streak now and need to learn how to rebound from there and be better again.

This would allow them to seize chances and come back better during playoffs if it ever happens. They fought hard last year at finals, warriors is not going to be there this time around, they need to be ready for another chance.

Celtics will be just fine, and I'm a knick fan it hurts me to say this but they will be a top 3 team in the East so long as they run out Tatum and jaylen brown for the foreseeable future.  I can easily see them going to at least the eastern conference finals.  They are built to win myltigame series.
1838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Looking for the Next Great 1000x on: December 22, 2022, 10:58:28 PM
I've seen a couple or so newbie accounts asking for a 'criteria' on how to choose an altcoin that would have the greatest potential to be a 1000x coin.

I'm gonna throw around some ideas but as all of you already know, this is in no way financial advice.  This is just all for the lulz and it would be cool if you guys throw your own ideas in the mix too...  So here goes.

Criteria to find the next 1000x coin:

It must not be listed in any of the major exchanges.  This is not a hard rule but I noticed that 1000x coins are mostly unknown.

It must have a dog logo.  What can I say, memecoins seem to go up by a lot more than the rest of the market.

Be mindful of market cap.  The lower, the better.  If a coin's market cap is 100m, 1000x would be 100b.  Lol.  It would take a lot of money to pump it that high.  But if the market cap is just 1 million, 1000x would be 1 billion.  It's much more possible it could happen imho.

That's it for now.

Edit:  Great criteria here...

I would like to add that it needs to be new token/coin that people haven't yet tweeted about, at least not too much. Preferably with no advertising bounties. Old projects under 10M marketcap have either died or something bad has happened behind the scene. Something that no one is interested in them, so unless you know some inside news about those, you are betting on a dead horse.

Also no price talk on the channel gives a professional touch that makes me think it's already more mature and professional then 90% projects out there.

I hope this is a joke.  Meme coins were a fad and there are zillions of them now.  All exactly the same just clone coins that serve zero purpose.  If you missed the meme craze then it's gone that's it.  No one knows the next fad otherwise everyone would pile in.  Your best bet is just to steer clear altogether and not lose all of your money which will most likely happen to most people chasing profits.
1839  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 22, 2022, 10:26:14 PM
Looks like we've got 2 games on the schedule for today as we get ready for the Christmas day NBA extravaganza.  First up is the Spurs vs the Pelicans.  I'm thinking the Pelicans should take this one easily the way they've been playing this season and the Spurs are still looking like a tank for the draft candidate.  Then we've got the Wizards and the Jazz.  I think this game could go either way.  I tend to think the Wizards have a better shot than the oddsmakers are giving them against Utah though.  I think they may clear the spread...
Do Spurs eager to get Wemby as per I read on some insiders report? For me it would be a game changer for the Spurs since they dominated the league in 2014, it's almost a decade though and the big 3 already retired and some of the players in that championship built team already on other teams or already retired too.

Problem with tanking in the NBA is it doesn't guarantee you the top spot like in the NFL.  In fact you have a less than 25% chance to land the #1 as the last place team.  Knicks were in last during the zion draft and ended up getting 3rd and missed out on zion and ja morant.  If in a club I don't care what happens I'm not tanking.  Decimated your fanbase and doesn't guarantee anything.

True, it's not guarantee that you will get the 1st pick if you even try to tank for this season and think that you will be the first one to select next season's pick, it's not the way the NBA works.

So there is a gamble here that might not pay dividends in the end. And even if you get the player you wanted, you just don't know if he will be a bust as we all know that there are a lot of high picks that went bust in the last couple of years. So it might be good to just play as hard as you can this season and hope that you will land a good pick in the draft night.

And just seeing the rigors of basketball landing a 7'4" guy doesn't exactly always work out.  Almost be nice to land in the 2 hoke so you can draft scoot Henderson.  That kid is electric and players like that tend to adapt well to the NBA.  I'm just not big on oversized players that are nimble, nba bodies break them down.

I share with you this one... Messi in corticosteroids.

No words...

I mean I have seen some bad tattoos before but this one is up there.  Without a doubt there will be worse ones though which is scary.  Happens after every superbowl people go out and get drunk tattoos and wake up to a nightmare lol.  That one is gonna keep me laughing for awhile though
