1441  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Circle is a Disaster waiting to Happen !!! on: September 30, 2014, 09:41:13 AM
although im usually the first to shout scam..

circle has done alot of legitimate things that scams have not.
1. got regulated
2. signed up for credit card processing services
3. got into proper good working relationships with banks
4. advertised formally
6. got proper VC backing
7. having a proper business plan
8. there code does not look like basement dwellers PHP/mysql

that being said. i dont think they are a scam. but i do think that NO one should use them as a bank and keep funds with them for days/weeks/years.. simply use them to buy/sel coin, and get your funds out of there.

the point of bitcoins is not to ned to trust third parties because your suppose to hoard funds yourself, or to research third parties soo much that your not blindedly trusting them.

I dont see any SCAM here. Nor does the OP claimed so. Mt. Gox was NOT a SCAM either while it was running in 2013. Circle just presents some wonderful ingredients of SCAM. One of the primary reasons of Bitcoin's success was its advantage over Credit Card for not allowing Charge Back. Now, that Credit Card is being used to sell Bitcoin !!! Just wait and watch the circus. Cheesy

Something which I can't find in the FAQ:
When will the first payout happen?
Since we've started our campaign on Wednesday, we plan to make first payouts on next Wednesday.

hey Can I reserve a spot in the next 4 days ill be free?
We don't have reservation, but in the next 4 days will start the next week of campaign, so we think you'll be able to join with no problem.

Is it possible to automate the payment schedule so that everyone gets paid when their one week is complete, not campaign's one week ? By the way, I have applied and its now pending. Expecting to get confirmed soon. Just keeping note of the following details of mine...

-snip-

As for the escrow, we've decided to skip this for now. If you don't believe us, just way for the first payouts. Though, you risk to miss the campaign at all, since we're planning to limit the max amount of participants.

BR,
The PocketDice Team

This is a nice move and I stand by this.

I dont think a weekly payment campaign needs an escrow. Dont accept the Tom, Dick & Harry here trying to be an escrow. Use the forum list of escrow instead => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276897.0
1444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BuySellAds Now Offers Publisher Payments in Bitcoin on: September 25, 2014, 02:48:27 PM
This is Todd from BuySellAds.

Some facts:

1. This isn't a marketing thing. We have advertisers and publishers from over 80 countries. Paying non-US publishers is a huge pain. Wire transfers cost ~ $35, payouts via PayPal cost up to $10, and checks take FOREVER for publishers to receive via regular mail. So, for us, if a publisher is willing to accept Bitcoin it's a great thing. We'd love it if ALL of our publishers would accept payouts in Bitcoin because it's much easier than the myriad of ways we currently have to pay publishers.

2. The reddit announcement this past week was also not a marketing thing. We have been working with reddit to sell ads to some of their sub-reddits for a while now. We asked them for some inventory in bitcoin related sub-reddits because we're starting to sell quite a bit of Crypto-related inventory for publishers. They said sure, but only if we could accept bitcoin. The good news was that we already had something in process here. So, it was both great timing and a perfect fit. 100% not a marketing thing.

3. The Crypto-currency channel at BuySellAds is *very* new. It's also one of our fastest growing new channels at BuySellAds.

RocketSingh - I'm not sure what we did to piss you off, but it seems like you have a grudge against us. Ease up Smiley  We're probably the most authentic ad company out there you will find... and one of the first to embrace Crypto-currency. I agree with you that this really isn't that big of a deal at all - for us it's about doing what we can to improve our software/operations for our customers. If you're here on BitcoinTalk I'd imagine you'd like to see Bitcoin succeed... the more merchants the better...

As Bitcoin acceptance and payment does not require the identity of the payee or the receiver to be disclosed, will u need the identity of the advertisers or publishers, who'll use Bitcoin as payment method on your site ?
1445  Economy / Services / Re: Pocket Dice Signature Campaign on: September 24, 2014, 03:34:07 PM
Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Fixed the trust definition, thanks for that in particular.
As for the escrow, we're researching this issue.

Does it mean that U r accepting 0 trust people ?

I dont think a weekly payment campaign needs an escrow. Dont accept the Tom, Dick & Harry here trying to be an escrow. Use the forum list of escrow instead => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276897.0

1447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In which language top gambling sites are coded ? on: September 24, 2014, 10:16:04 AM
But my guess is we'll be seeing a lot more Go in the coming years. Built a small dice project in that handling 10.000 rolls in about 500ms.

10K bets in 500ms?.. incredible. I really wonder how did you achieve that? I mean, there are stuffs like calculating lucky number, inserting to DB, broadcasting to user again etc..

Hehe, I should have mentioned it only returned the profit/loss of those rolls combined to the user. It did simulate (so calculate the lucky number etc) and insert 10.000 rolls in the DB at once though, so with a single query, not repeating an insert query 10.000 times. It also updated the user balance at once too after all the rolls were done.

I bet this will be fast in other languages too.

Committing 10k rolls at a time may go against the atomic consistency of the DB resulting in unexpected effect to the bankroll (+ve/-ve).

First of all, extremely sorry for my limited knowledge. By TOR, I understand a browser that connects to an anonymous network which helps to hide the IP of the TOR user by multiple proxies. So, how does one run Bitcoin Core through a browser ? I must be missing something... Can U please point me to any directive/manual that shows How to run Bitcoin Core using TOR ?

p.s. I checked blockchain.info is working fine inside China => http://www.greatfirewallofchina.org/index.php?siteurl=blockchain.info

It's Tor, not TOR.

Tor is most commonly used for anonymous Web browsing, but it can anonymize any TCP traffic. In Bitcoin-Qt, the default proxy settings (127.0.0.1:9050, version 5) in the network options are usually appropriate for Tor. Just run Tor and tell Bitcoin-Qt to use the proxy.

Thanx for correcting. As an abbreviation I thought it should be all caps like TCP.

Can u plz tell me what do u mean by Just run Tor ? Run the Tor Browser or a Tor Node ?

Great post, but I respectfully deny this part...

Quote
Don’t hide behind your company

After Mt.Gox collapsed a “trust issue” arose throughout the Bitcoin network. People got a slap in the face realizing they can’t go around trusting businesses that weren’t transparent enough with their money. Communicating who you are in a transparent and trustworthy manner is one of the most important aspects of your Bitcoin business. For example take a look at Coinbase’s “about” page.

See how each team member’s photo is vividly displayed linking to their LinkedIn profile? Also there is a clear company address and way of getting in touch. BTCJam is another great example of a transparent “About” page: btcJam about page 2 companies which I believe are not doing so well are BTC-E and a HYIP program called “Bitcoin-Trader”. Both seem to be very obscure about who is actually running their business. There’s nothing less professional than having your business be operated by “a team of professionals”.

U have given the example yourself that, unlike traditional businesses, transparency is not something of great importance in Bitcoin world. We all knew about MK of Mt. Gox, but that could not save us from being scammed. On the contrary, no one knows dooglus, but when just-dice closed, everyone was paid off. Being trust less service in terms of business process is something of importance.

How can they stop Bitcoin Core from connecting to Bitcoin network ? If they could do, wont it defeat the whole concept of P2P ? I think, by barring a certain IP range, a P2P cant be broken...

Bitcoin Core is pretty easy to block. I think that just blocking port 8333 would cause serious problems for Chinese users. (There are some nodes on the network that don't use port 8333, but they're rare.) Bitcoin isn't designed to be difficult to block -- that's what Tor is for. It's been possible to run Bitcoin through Tor since version 0.1 AFAIK.

1451  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In which language top gambling sites are coded ? on: September 23, 2014, 09:19:55 AM
I am under the impression that PrimeDice backend is written in php with a socket server in nodejs

I guess we gotta wait for stunna for comment on this

Primedice uses Node.js alongside PostgreSQL. Ember.js (front end) 100% PHP free. We are able to handle a significant amount of load with clustered servers and heavy DB optimization. We completely threw away all the problematic PHP code that was used for PD2.

Thank U Stunna for dropping by. So, does it mean that till PD2 a few months ago PHP-PostgreSQL was doing fine in handling traffic ? I'm asking this because elsewhere another Dice site owner is moving from PHP to Java for better performance. Is PHP less efficient in handling concurrency just because it does not support threading like Java ? Then, how come FaceBook is running primarily on PHP ?

Since you bought the site in June it seems like there was less than 20 BTC wagered total. How much revenue did that generate?

We don't release the numbers, but it was a decent amount for a smaller site.

Why r u doing the next version with investment feature in Java instead of PHP ?

Java is better language and gives us the same performance as an exchange.

I'm sorry to contradict U in this regard. Why r u saying that Java is better than PHP ? Does not it depend on the coder ? Otherwise, how Facebook is primarily running on PHP ? AFAIK tomcat is not good to support big traffic, U need to go for JBOSS.

Moreover, if someone buys your PHP script, it would be difficult for him/her to upgrade to the next version, if that's written in Java. Not only the Xamp settings need to be exported to Tomcat, but also DB connection etc. need to be changed.

No we used mysql and tomcat proxy thru nginx is great for high concurrency. But this isn't the place to debate that.

Ok... one last question. What is the highest no. of concurrent connections u have experienced on FastBluff.com as per Google Analytics or whatever u have used ?

We were getting a good amount of people a day using the site (Not really going to release that since this is such a low starting bid, to be honest this deal is a steal, if that doesn't show that we don't care about the profit on the sale of site, I don't know what would. We want the site to have a good home and help some budding person get a good start if dice sites are something they want to do). The concurrency was more of a database issue, when we would be going to investments and rolls. We were getting a lot of rolls at once, that were taking down the site, so the php code actually has a limiter on it. With the java code we would be able remove that limiter, as well as we would be able to do investments better and faster.

I am not going to use this form to debate why I choose to move on from the php code to java, it was a decision that was made, when we were 100% sure we wanted to pursuit that, and just as music comes to musicians heads, we found other interest that made us want to build and do those.

The amount of things you are getting for 1 BTC is ridiculous you are getting 2 complete sites, 3 domain names.

We are a private company and start opening the books look like that, isn't something we choose to do now.

Also if my answers before where confusing, it was because I was on a phone now I am at a computer and can write out long descriptions to answer questions.

I'd also like to hear from site owners that allows investment whether PHP has any constraint about doing instant profit sharing ?
1452  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In which language top gambling sites are coded ? on: September 22, 2014, 09:12:16 PM
0. Just-Dice.com - I don't know,

1. PrimeDice.com - EmberJS

2. DiceBitco.in - Angular, probably with Mean

4. PRCDice.eu - I don't want to know

3. Dice.ninja - Python

5. Win88.me - I don't know

6. Rollin.io - Php, it's copy from satoshibet.com, as all-dice

PD and JD must be using hadoop too, I'd like to know what SQL they are using.

If your info is correct, then the high volume sites are avoiding PHP-MySQL. Why so ? I have seen PHP-MySQL to efficiently handle big traffic. What may be the average concurrent connection of the top 3 ? Is there any security problem with PHP-MySQL coded gambling sites ?

Busy gambling sites need to provide high security as well as serve high traffic. In which language today's top sites are coded ? Which DB are they using ?

I'm listing a few sites below. Please post if u know about their configuration. If u know about a site which is not in the list, please post that too...

1457  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: WARNING: 100 BTC disappeared when deposited at Primedice on: September 21, 2014, 11:45:10 PM
Hello all,
I have been newly active on Primedice during the past few weeks. With the closing of JD, I was looking for another honest, off-chain game to continue rolling. Primedice was great and I had a lot of success there until recently.

Earlier today, I deposited 100 BTC into my account to start playing. (I always make it a habit to put my coins back into my wallet after playing on any site.) Usually my account is credited after 1 confirmation and everything is good-to-go. Well initially, things were looking like they usually do, and my account promptly reflected my new balance. Then I place my first bet and I get an "Insufficient Funds" warning at the top. Mind, you this is happening while my balance shows "100.00120000 BTC." I refreshed the page a few times and afterwards, the balance showed pretty much zero again (0.00120000 BTC worth of dust).

Just to be safe, I even tried logging in and out. Nothing. I hit up the Mod on duty in the chat room and he is unable to help. I have sent an email to support so let's see what they say. I am trying to keep calm, but an annual salary worth of BTC has vanished.

Also, here is the TXID for the deposit in question:
https://blockchain.info/tx/e3baf6d62cbd003632204cd40e82c6e40e55c4a50b2d93e89585ec1ca7fffac1

If any of you more technical guys can get forensic with the blockchain info, ANY help is appreciated. Stunna, if my coins are just stuck somewhere on your site, please return them and I'll be on my merry way. In the meantime:

BE CAREFUL WHEN DEPOSITING YOUR COINS HERE!

100 BTC !!! WTF ? Life changing amount for some countries. Did u CPU mine those coins ?

1459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BuySellAds Now Offers Publisher Payments in Bitcoin on: September 21, 2014, 11:20:57 PM
The real question is: can the content providers (aka the people hosting the ads on their website) receive payment in bitcoin? If they can then this would be a very big deal and could potentially change the advertising market. If they cannot then this means nothing as they would likely be simply be selling the bitcoin via coinbase/bitpay as most other merchants do

I have seen most of their inventory under crptocurrency section remains unsold... especially the Bitcoin ones. They are inefficient in bringing in Bitcoin advertisers and enjoying free advertising for their service on publisher's cost. They dont even allow publishers a way to fill in the unsold space with other ads like Adsense do. I dont think BuySellAds have the credibility to do anything for Bitcoin.

I need a signature created for Silverwallets

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=525756.msg5833667#msg5833667

We make physical BTC storage wallets out of....you guessed it Silver!

Please post your ideas and I will select the winner by 9/20/14 (unless I see something I really like and just pick it right away)

Signatures for: Full Member / Sr Member / Hero Member

EDIT: You can choose either .125BTC or a Silverwallet if you are the winner!
