921  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can I run a full node on bitnodes.io and use it as a wallet ? on: July 22, 2015, 12:49:10 PM
None ? No one running their bitcoin daemon on VPS and calling it through JSON-RPC ?

Doing it wall the time for explorers, but the daemon's wallet is always empty: there are too many things that can go wrong in terms of security with a VPS-hosted wallet (security issues in the RPC API, Linux bugs, security issues in the virtualization layer that end up giving other VPS on the same host access to your files, and just plain negligence at the company hosting the VPS which could be social-engineered to provide access to another party).

If you really really want to host some funds on a "cloud" machine, at least go for a dedicated server, and restrict RPC access by firewall (not just .conf options) to your personal IPs.
Lower specs dedicated servers can be found for the same price as higher specs VPS, but are vastly preferable in terms of performance and security IMHO.

Those are costly solution. So, is it the case, that blockchain.info or similar APIs are the only solution to send/receive bitcoin in a secure way ?
922  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitVPS alternative? on: July 21, 2015, 07:01:10 PM
I don't know what happened to them.  I've used them for years with no problems, but my servers have been down for months with no response to my tickets.  Can anyone recommend another VPS service?

If your purpose is just to run Bitcoin daemon, you might try bitnodes.io.
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Telegram now has an A.I. BOT called Julia who is your personal Bitcoin assistant. on: July 21, 2015, 06:02:07 PM
Not really getting how this bot works or how it's useful... What are its application? Smiley

User friendly, the Telegram base users is 60m so  potential access to lots of people is pretty huge.

But I think the major use is Coinbase users can access their account through Telegram or a Getgems wallet.

I guess another step toward wider adoption.

What's the best way to acquire some GetGems coin if I do not have internet on mobile ?
924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone tried this LocalBitcoins alternative ? on: July 21, 2015, 03:33:53 PM
I have not tried it, I'm more than satisfied with localbitcoins.com, but generally it's positive with alternatives, given they are legit. Some of the services that will be started wont be that, but some will. A few will lose money, but the competition on a free market is far more important than that.

LocalBitcoins is good. Definitely good. But, 100bit.co.in has some advantages...

i. Escrow cost is 0.1% instead of 1%

ii. You dont need to lock your fund till a trade begins

iii. Alt coins supported.

...so, worth a try. Smiley
925  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Block Explorer do you use ? on: July 20, 2015, 11:57:36 PM
ive used blockchain.info for a while, but im starting to lean more towards blocktrail now, not sure why.

Same here. I just wish BlockTrail makes their PHP based send/receive API easier to integrate.
926  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 100bit.co.in - Direct trading exchange - 0.1% fee - Alt coins supported on: July 20, 2015, 11:05:58 PM
Slowly, we are seeing rise in volume agaist different currencies. Hopefully, this will continue.

Try to get into the area where LocalBitcoins has not penetrated yet.
927  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: July 19, 2015, 07:44:15 PM
wasn't six month straight, because they resetted everything and i needed to re-do all the account everytime

i wasn't earning with their contract but with account only, every account was giving me 1.5 euro a day(a bit less, now multiple it for 200 Cheesy

He might have invested 200 BTC.

no i didn't invest a penny, i used the money gained with my two g-balde to rent more mahcine and add more account and feed my entire earning

I dont get it. Did they give away 1.5 euro per day just for creating an account ? That is alomost 0.1769 BTC per month for a free account.

no you need to mine to get that 1.5, but to do it it was just needed one gridseed 5 chip 300kh/s, which cost nothing, something like 10 euro, now even lose, and consume 10w

So, you spent around 10 euro per account, i.e. 2000 Euro total for 200 accounts plus the electricity for six months ?
928  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reefer Addicts and Street Thugs Flock to New Jersey’s First Bitcoin ATM on: July 19, 2015, 07:36:50 PM
The Bitcoin is very popular among drug addicts because it’s the only currency accepted by the black markets of the deepweb. These illegal dens of vice don’t take Visa or Mastercard, but they’ll gladly take BTC.

Only currency ? So they dont accept GoldCoin ?

yes i'm holding it in my hot wallet(yeah scammers, try to steal it if you can, i challange you) but one bitcoin is nothing with the current price, i need more

signature campaign does not satisfy me, i need to find something else that generate income..i want the whole mining thing back, damnit

Dude, you're making about BTC0.5 per week from your signature campaign, that equates to posting 100s of posts a week, how is this not enough for you? You're crushing it!

i'm glad that there is someone that is spying my earning Cheesy but i'm not satisfied because i was making almost one bitcoin a day(yeah a day) with cointellect, that's the problem, when you get accustomed with such a good earning you don't want to turn back

Is this your fulltime job? Then 0.5 per week is nothing.. If you have a job besides it, it is still a decent side payment Smiley

1 bitcoin a day is sick, around when was that? Cheesy

from october 2014 until march, then they closed everything and start scamming the last newbie with fake contract

check the story about cointellect

How much you invested in cointellect to make 1 BTC per day for six months straight ?

LOL! That's more than 180 BTC! I don't believe him now..

He might have invested 200 BTC.
931  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: July 15, 2015, 10:14:39 AM
We may get another bounce up for a double-top at $320 ($315 realizable trade)?

By borrowing BTC and selling on bitfinex. The leverage you can get is dependent on how much % over your selling price you want to hold a reserve to prevent a margin call.

I almost did it, but decided I have better upside in what I am working on. So it wasn't worth the risk to me (not only unexpected volatility to the upside, also bitfinex solvency or the market price moving faster than bitfinex can execute margin calls), but in your case depending how desperate you are, it might be worth the risk if we bounce up again before declining.

I am fairly certain we will decline, but I can't be sure we won't see prices above $320 and below $400 before going down. Above $400, I would declare myself incorrect and eat the losses.

Some people said you can trade on bitfinex and even sell for $usd without doing KYC as long as you don't withdraw fiat. I didn't want to risk that, because it appears it is a discretionary policy.
True.

Possible. IMO after 320 we will test 450-475 - this is the last test.. If we break 500$ the train has left for good for new ATH. So maybe we need to visit this price before a possible new bear market to double digits.

Do you have an expected time frame to break through 500 ?
932  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can I run a full node on bitnodes.io and use it as a wallet ? on: July 14, 2015, 10:25:26 PM
If you do RPC calls over the web I recommand you to limit the RPC API to certain IPs (for example the server IP that will be calling the RPC)

https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node#possible-problems
I think it's possible but it's kind of unsafe to do that as you may receive some attacks resulting in the loss of your coins.
What is the point of telling me that things are unsafe or not recommended, if you dont have a better solution ? I do understand that JSON-RPC may be unsafe and running a node as a wallet on the web is unsafe as well. But, then what is the solution for a hot wallet ?

p.s. I am well aware of the available web APIs, but I dont want to get restricted by their limitations.

Usually the hot wallet is physically accessible or on the local network.

How do I access something on a local network, if it is not connected to the web and if it is connected to the web, then it is as good as running on a VPS... is not it ?
933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 9 million USD per month is looking for ways to jump into Bitcoin on: July 14, 2015, 10:14:03 PM
Backpage aint stupid, see that "how do I buy",

Backpage is not stupid.

Yup... having that link is important to every merchant accepting bitcoin.

key to give a high % of ther ad users to get bitcoin pretty easy, with all the revenue that backpage brings on their monthly terms we would see a good amount of adoption in this coming months.

I also think this is great news, especially because Bitcoin is not just another option, but their default payment method. However I don't think adoption will explode because of it - it's possible that their revenue will drop significantly, because it requires additional effort to buy Bitcoin in the first place.

But without doubt, it's a great step into the right direction.

ya.ya.yo!

No. They are accepting LiteCoin & DogeCoin as well...

I have done it on Amazon Web services, but not bitnodes.io. It also is not very safe to do JSON-RPC calls over the web, and if you do, you should use SSL RPC.

If I dont do it on the web, then what is the standard process of running bitcoin core as a hot wallet?

936  Local / India / Re: Lack of payment processing provider for Indian merchants on: July 14, 2015, 08:24:03 PM
he doesnt pay any fees to his card processing merchant as well as they give so much volume to them.

I am surprised at this. Is the fee waiver temporary or permanent? Is it for debit cards or credit cards as well?
It would be tough to imagine credit card companies not charging fees.

I think debit/credit cards companies are waivering the merchant fees for accepting payment face to face through a card swipe machine. For online usage, they'll still charge.

In simple terms, I'm trying to run a hot wallet where I can query through JSON-RPC. Is that possible on bitnodes.io ?
It is possible on any VPS, provided that you configure the firewall and the Bitcoin config file properly to allow JSON-RPC queries. However, it is not recommended to make the RPC server publicly accessible since it could be vulnerable to attack and having someone steal all of your Bitcoin.

Any related tutorial or something to point at ? I cant figure out where to start...
