2101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 26, 2013, 04:56:21 AM
I am seeing little or no improvement by cooling with a portable A/C.

Unit with A/C
1h 37m 58s  83896.29  temp3 43    freq(auto) 354

Unit without A/C
6h 54m 22s  83111.32   temp3 53    freq(auto) 353
I guessed this might be the case since the temperatures really aren't getting into the error range even with regular air cooling - especially since it's 3 degrees at my home overnight and the hashrate doesn't go up. I suspect the hashrate will only get higher with more voltage given to the chips.

just curious what might the "error range" be? it's getting rather hot in here and I think I might have to buy another AC unit... summer is right around the corner...
Very much dependent on the chips, so this can only be a wild guess, but... 80+ degrees?

thank you CKolivas! 80C will cook me and my tiny apartment. I think I need to figure a way to vent the heat directly outside without letting the rain and snow in,

Hi Dr Harribo, I really like your pool (liked it better when asicmonster was contributing, ) but anyways,

your java miner always seems to work no problem, but I'm trying to use cgminer and I'm using stratum+tcp://mint.bitminter.com:3333 as my primary, but it just immediately fails over to my secondary pool,

I use the same worker names and passwords at both pools, but it just won't connect to yours, please help Smiley

:edit: I think I've figured it out, pushing some hashrate your way now, I think

grats on mastering the first rule of IT (let the end user wait until they figure it out for themselves) Wink
2104  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: June 26, 2013, 03:00:08 AM
Mine just arrived too.

Unfortunately I now have nowhere to run it and I don't have time to find a local hosting method. I'll have to post it for sale. I'm pretty pissed.

That sucks man. Sad Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Thanks mate. Hopefully I can recoup the cost, but I was looking forward to running a big mysterious device in the spare room and hinting ominously at what it might do.

hey OOC, if you are looking to offload your machine, maybe try to get in touch with that guy who's running ozcoin, (can't remember his name right now) he might be willing to host, or split costs/profits...

good luck in finding a solution, and I feel abnormally bad that you won't be able to run your own, Sad  (I'm just a geek like that, I love cool hardware)
2105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: June 26, 2013, 12:12:29 AM
Of those that got the package, how big and heavy is it?
Can someone post the dimentions?

just like a big computer box, about the same weight too...
2106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: June 26, 2013, 12:11:39 AM
sweet.  Shipped and in Canada customs already for mine.  Order in mid 1200s!

grats! I received my email this morning too! I was so excited I could barely concentrate at work.

here is the timeline from the DHL tracking:

- picked up in china monday afternoon
- departed hong kong early tuesday morning
- arrived in LA monday evening  (gotta love those timezones, lol)
- left LA early tuesday morning
- arrived in canada before noon (this is about the same time I received the email notice from avalon)
- was delivered to me this afternoon.

I am very impressed, and pleased, can't stop grinning like a cheshire cat  Grin
2107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitSyncom: Is it possible to make changes to an order (yes/no PSU, # of modules) on: June 25, 2013, 01:37:45 AM
It's unfortunate that batch 2 did not have the option of shipping without PSU

has anyone got confirmation of problems with PSU crossing customs, or any clarification/confirmation whether or not it is possible to change an order (remove PSU before shipping?)
2108  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon stable @ 98,986Mhash/sec on: June 25, 2013, 12:51:11 AM

Is condensation an issue at all here with the AC cooling it? Just curious.

I've had my AC unit blowing directly at my 3*7970 for over a year now, never had a problem, but in the summer, the AC can barely keep up... temps are getting over 80 C on hot days.
2109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon stable @ 98,986Mhash/sec on: June 25, 2013, 12:25:10 AM
quite impressive. I'm planning to do the same thing with a very similar looking AC unit.

Question: did you upgrade the PSU? and if so, what are you running now? and if not, can you verify the make/model of the PSU that came with your avalon?

Thanks

Questions for Agora Commodities re: International shipping "Detailed information goes here..."

Do you ship to Canada?
Are there any duties or import tax?
Have you had any prior experience shipping to Canada and if so, what problems or set-backs have you run into?

Thanks from a Canadian silver bug Smiley
2111  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Clocked Avalon to 350 MHz and beyond/ 80GH/s on: June 22, 2013, 12:22:09 AM
very nice!

Question for Goxed, re: "Fans seem to run at 100% regardless of temperature."

Do you have any indication of what would likely happen if (eventually when) a fan fails? will the device turn off before it fries itself?

The "regardless of temperature" part makes me wonder/worry that some kind of built-in failsafe might have been disabled in order to run at these speeds...

Still freakin' awesome  Shocked

worst case, if you were really paranoid, you could replace the fans every 3 months or so much like a preventative maintenance schedule
2112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Should you Cancel your Jalapeno Order? - This might help to decide on: June 21, 2013, 01:11:24 AM
<snip>
Next year you only have a few weeks before it costs more to run than it makes.  So it's a brick by the end of February.
</snip>

I'm a bit confused. How much does a jalapeno actually cost to run? I thought they only pull around 35 watts?

I don't know what electricity prices are but isn't it around $.20 per kwh? or lower?

that would make the cost of running a jally for a week around ... 0.035kw * 24h * 7d * $0.20/kwh = $1.176 per week?

Unless my math is wrong, which is probably the case...

Could you run these numbers for say, 1 year out? until july 2014? I'm genuinely curious.
2113  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] BFL ASICs, + Board Design Underway. on: June 20, 2013, 12:24:09 AM

<snip>
I plan to place the order on Friday June 21st, so all transactions will need to be done before then.
</snip>

Any updates on the progress? Friday is fast approaching...

@ Bowjob: sorry to hear of your problems. Without knowing the location and condition/details of your parents house it is difficult to know what your best course of action might be.

(my parents are in a similar position, with a large amount still owing on their property, and approaching retirement (and the fixed "income" that entails) luckily for us, their house has not dropped in value, (yet) and they are doing massive renovations to try to increase value before they sell and move into something more modest)

best of luck, and "may your avalons arrive soon and hash promptly"  Smiley

2116  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BitMinter audit (or: PPLNS vs PPS) on: May 11, 2013, 05:53:22 PM
Just wanted to drop in and say thank you to OOC for offering the audit (even though you were paid by the pool operator, I don't think anyone can question your integrity*)

and also a thank you to Dr. Haribo. The simplicity of your miner client is unmatched. I can't wait to test it with an ASIC! (if I ever get one... 4 months and counting Sad )

*edit: that bit about questioning OOC's integrity is badly worded, especially in a bitcoin world. I love bitcoin because I shouldn't have to trust anyone. everything is verifiable through the math. I think I must have chosen that phrase because I personally don't have the time or ability to actually check the math myself. What I should have said is that I, personally, have no reason to question OOC's integrity.
2117  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: May 11, 2013, 04:53:04 PM
I do not know. my method has been get in and get out of the exchanges.  I move the NMC I exchange I transfer.  Since the fee is about .01 btc to pull the money out I pull the btc out at the .2 btc level   It takes me a few days to get to .2btc

So I got burned twice now. Not much less then .1 btc each time.  I just do not keep a lot in the exchanges . So I am now in btc-e

with under  .2 btc this time I will  not leave as much inside it.

Thank you. It sounds like solid advice. I just changed a bunch of NMC -> BTC -> LTC and withdrew... I'm not sure LTC is the answer, but it seems sound, and it might have some upside...

what brand/model is that card? mine will not do over 660 in a 24/7 setting (1100 mhz is pretty close to the max I can run)

*I should mention, mine are XFX 7970 black edition - reference design blower model, not the DD ones*

Gigabyte HD 7970 GHz Ed. OC 3GB, PCI-E x16 3.0, DP, HDMI

Thanks for speedy response!

it seems like this card is voltage-unlocked, can you confirm? also, what voltage do you run?

7970 @ 715Mhash/s consistent using cgminer 2.10.3 using the last drivers from AMD (13.5 beta) with the following settings:
Fan 85%
Engine:1200
Mem:1050
Intensity:7

2120  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Ready to buy an ASIC miner... do they really EXIST? on: May 11, 2013, 03:41:36 PM
If I try to sum up the ASIC situation... from what i could read here on this forum.
you are gladly invited to correct me if i'm wrong ...

AVALON : 3 batches. Batch one has been processed (not entirely). Batch 3 not begun yet. possible 900 (batch 1 and 2) devices but some customer did not received yet.
horribly expensive except for batch 1 ... no news for batch 4 you can still see some prices but it is out of stock right now
trouble with delivery also .. (custom and batch processing)

Comments are welcomed.

since you asked for input, I disagree with the underlined part above. batch 2 (when it was re-opened, after the original launch failed horribly) was around 56 BTC (worth exactly $1500 at the time) --- if that batch is received before june (even july) it will should achieve 100% ROI within around 2 months. batch 3 was a bit pricey, but should ship closely after batch 2...

when considered against 75btc for a 10GH/s machine, 56 BTC for 66 GH/s seems reasonable, as long as it arrives before... say.... 30 million difficulty? (*note* the owners of those first batch erupters should be earning .5 BTC per day per card today, while the avalon batch 2 orders are currently earning nothing)

Also...
I just recently made this ASIC info page: http://minr.info/

Thank you. This is an awesome resource.
