$800 by the end of June

Can i get a amen confirm?
end of june is only 4 days left
and $800 (38% rise from current price) is mostly difficult to see
back to $666 first is better idea Tongue

yeah, 800 in 4 days sounds unreasonable, but I wouldn't bet against it at this point.

if the price comes back down to meet the line and then bounces to the upside? I think the upside move could be violent.

be ready.

*edit* don't take my statements as advice, I like to make all or nothing bets for very small amounts, so I like to pick high risk/reward ratios, like market reversals. but yeah, this is starting to look like a tasty target.

keep in mind, I'm wrong about half the time.

is it a bottom or just bravado?

Are there no fans attached directly to the radiator? Really?! Does the case only have a single intake fan?
There is foam between heatsink and case.
Most of the fan air goes right thru heatsink.
The cubes are OK air tunnels, they work at 80F/26C ambient, lol.
The PCIe hole is on the fan side of heatsink and has good air pressure.
Frugal as they are this one makes sense.
On a "BTC miner noise scale" they are quiet.

YMMV
Smiley

So the air can't be directed around of the side, top or bottom of the heatsink at all? Still, a fan should be directly connected to the radiator to force the air through the radiator fins.

And so there is only the intake fan then, not even an exhaust fan for push-pull cooling? Even a fan connected to pull cool air through the radiator would be better than just a single case fan. I see a lot of room for improvement in cooling these units!

oh ya there is...taking them out of the case n raise'em up would do wonders...and cooler vrms = less watts Smiley

And if they're removed from the cases then they will definitely need a fan directly connected to the radiator.

idk how hot the radiator gets but on my nov units...i don't have a fan on them and they are just fine...the fan is still in front of the whole unit so its still getting air flow...they aren't even warm to the touch and i have them oc'd to 335 setting on padrinos FW so i guess i'm doing something right Cheesy

idk about november units, as my jup is an october version with 2 chips that have a 0-die problem. there was a certain firmware v kncminer-0.98.1(beta) that would get mine to 550, but I had to restrict the airflow and get into the 75-80 degree range before it would hash at that rate. (any cooler and it would barely reach 400.)

recently I tried the new firmware cuz the advanced tab looked really cool, but now 2 of the chips only run with 3 out of 4 cores active. if I try to tweak the voltage and stuff to try to kick-start them, then the 0 core will turn on, but the other three turn off...

I tried to flash back, but it will not run at all with the old firmware anymore, so it's down to only 500 GH/s now. Sad

quite frustrating and counter-intuitive that a piece of computer hardware would run better when hotter, just bakes my brain.

Does anybody know the details of the FBI auction?
Will we get to know the price the BTC are sold for? How long after winning does the highest bidder have to wait to get the private key? etc?

not sure if we'll get details on the price, but I believe the bids are being placed by email (lol) and if recent history is any guide, I expect the USMS will simply hit "reply all" with the private keys  Grin

too soon?

(*off-topic: also hoping the monkey is still loving silver?*)

monkey says there should be a silver correction on a daily chart, so sell some and buy back cheaper, or sell some short-dated calls if you are using paper silver, but still loves it on a weekly chart.

also, please observe that i am no hero, merely a sr.

lol, I do not sell silver, never have sold an ounce, yet.

and "hero member status" is largely a subjective title in my reality.

Those EVGA 1300s work great for my FrankenJup. But others had problems trying to run more than 5 FrankenJup modules. So I would proceed with caution. Check the KNC forum for more discussions about PSUs.

thanks, I'm waiting a response from the guy that did the video, I'll relay his answer if he does.

I guess the big question I have for those who have received their Neptune's in the US and in Canada (if there aren't Canadian's other than myself in this thread) did you have to pay duty if so how how much?

Thanks,

You don't have to pay duty but you have to pay the HST @ 13% of the declared value after converting to CAD which is a real downer since our dollar plummeted against the USD since last NOV.  I've had to pay this one every miner I've purchased... yes I got BFL'd.

depends what province.

Alberta should pay 5% GST only.

*edit* plus probably some kind of brokerage fee

Yikes, so I guess I would like to know if any of the B1 customers are from Canada here and when they get their Neptune what does KNC mark its value as, because that's how they determine the HST. For us Canadians that could mean paying an extra $1500.

I cancelled my order so I wont know about the Neptune but when I got my Saturn they marked the full price on it.  I was expecting the same for the Neptune.  I would think anyone who has received their Neptune order could tell you what price was declared on the shipping label.
Does anyone have that info?

They will undoubtedly list the full price for the unit.

I don't know if provincial tax applies, because AB doesn't have provincial tax, (honestly I don't even know what HST is?)

but you will at minimum have to pay the 5% GST.

Freedom requires possibilities.  Our possibilities are limited  by our awareness, oftentimes.  Exogenous stimuli often serve to draw attention to those possibilities, and thereby compound our freedom.

if only 10% of the population can gain enough awareness to comprehend that thought, then my outlook for the future becomes much brighter.

it seems as though the process has started, but a long way until the "tipping-point" I fear.

Fact: Before bitcoin you had to trust banks and governments with the money.

another fact, and I don't want to be a downer, because it looks like the party is on... but I think it's important to consider...

those with power will leverage that power to retain and prevent power from slipping from their grasp.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I think we should all keep our wits about us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and now that that's over, on with the show!

I am sorry, I can read charts well.. What do you mean by party is on? Is the price gonna fall more?

I just mean that it's more exciting when the price is moving.

I have no position in this market, other than hoarded bitcoin that I will not sell at any price below 800 CAD.

I'm embarrased to say I didn't think it would be a problem, all my previous supplies have been single rail, so I've never had the experience so I bought a couple Antec 1300W  4 X 25 AMP PSU's cuz I thought they'd be fine and they were on a massive sale???

I haven't opened them yet, should I try to exchange?

Yes.

point taken, - is http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX48291 sufficient?

this PSU I think is the same as in the video, but it seems that the included cables might not be up to snuff...

from here -> http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX48291/Reviews

Quote
The stock cables that come with the power supply seem fairly cheaply braided, however they do sell single braided cable sets for 90 buck that make a huge difference

I guess what I'm asking is what is the most trusted PSU to run this beast?
1253  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 26, 2014, 12:53:56 AM
That one company already offered to buy all 25k coins for spot minus 15 percent. When is the last day for bidding? If they still can bid, Im betting the majority will be purchased at about that rate.. just under spot.

Why is everyone so obsessed with this? The last 30 pages all people talk about is at what prices the coins will go? How is it even relevant? Someone may bid 550 now and we'll be at 500 tomorrow. So he is buying expensive coins and vice versa. It doesn't make any sense that the price of these coins are turning out to be the most important event if the year.
its happening news!

There is way more news out there, way more interesting and relevant.

link?

This auction is the most interesting thing in bitcoin to me right now. what do you have that is "way more interesting and relevant"?

I think the highest bid will be over 600 and the price of the auction will get leaked (I've never seen a more leaked "private" auction in my life) and then the market will spring in step to at least 800 before taking a breather.

but shroomsy is right about one thing, nobody knows what the fuck is going to happen until it happens.
1254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 26, 2014, 12:38:27 AM

I am not familiar with multiple PSU's. How to set up single rail or multi rails? what is the best option to make neptune work? suppose I have three 850W PSU.

Each PSU is single  OR  multi rail.
Each rail needs to be capable 300 Watt minimum for each ASIC plugged into that rail.
(based on KnC statements)
For multi rail supplies you gotta dig into the literature for specifics on each rail.

For your 3 x 850 question, I'll assume single rail PSUs.
Use 2 ASIC per PSU and power controller cube from 3rd PSU with one ASIC.
If the 'suits' are to be believed this will load the 850's  to around 600 Watts.

If your three 850W PSUs are single rail and were in one box it would be a 'triple rail 2550W with 850W rails'.

Hope this helps.
Please if possible understand what is going on before applying power.
Internet advice can be faulty even with good intentions!!!

YMMV
Smiley

very helpful, thank you. One additional question if you please.

Is it a bad thing to load say, 3 out of 4 rails to near full and leave the 4th one doing nothing?

also
Peeps....
I thought every miner knew....

You should only use SINGLE RAIL PSU'S
anything else you are wasting $ and taking huge risks imho

Multi-rail PSU's are SHIT,
I burnt out a couple last Generation before going to all Corsair single-rail
Even when the multi's "worked", they could not keep up with the rest
Even 5 year old-crappy used HP desktop PSU's were better. Just sayin'

I'm embarrased to say I didn't think it would be a problem, all my previous supplies have been single rail, so I've never had the experience so I bought a couple Antec 1300W  4 X 25 AMP PSU's cuz I thought they'd be fine and they were on a massive sale???

I am not doubting the network effect laws. I am doubting the 'Monero is strongest' part. Although I like the name, the name is best of them all. Some Hero members support is also good. But this race has just started. Bitcoin had a few years of network effect before others started to race with it. CN coins all begin at the same time, excluding Bytecoin for obvious reasons. Hence, the outcome is unclear.

I think some of those hero members are trying to make it seem like a foregone conclusion that XMR is going to be the winner because they have already invested in it. BBR started just a few weeks later and has some nice innovation and arguably the most knowledgeable cryptonote dev in Crypto Zoidberg.

It is nice to have a good dev, (and we also have a good dev team in XMR), but it is the Hero members alone who can "fish" for more hero members to join, and others will follow. The hero members don't invest or promote junk. XMR has a disproportionate large number of hero members supporting it, and this exactly is the network effect that is hard to overcome.

It will also have a lot more of Hero members and others alike supporting it in the time to come.  Grin

I personally am at least one example of this phenomenon. The only reason I even looked at XMR was because a hero member mentioned it in Adam's thread. I spent about a week looking into it and then I tossed a couple bitcoins at it.

Thank you very much animorex for bringing XMR and this thread to my attention btw.  Cool

This is bad, we are touching the Long term trend line at Stamp at 572 and nobody is buying wtf???

Of course nobody is buying. There is a huuuge major event coming up that controls the whole market and could put us down by a massive amount.
I know about the silk road auction and I know that until the 27th we won't see huge spikes, I'm just saying that nobody seems to be defending the VERY important long term trend line. A Big dump could take us way below that trend line, which would be TERRIBLE for BTC.

I like lines!

which line were you referring to exactly?
Yes that one pretty much

If you draw the trend line with the two points at red arrows you would have predicted
1: the $340 crash bottom
2: confirmation of the trend reversal with the huge pump "out of nowhere"
3: bounce from the last 680-540 crash

that trend line

What are your predictions for 2014?

not sure if your were asking me, but I'll spew out some nonsense at the slightest of opportunities Smiley

here is a zoom in of that same line - not the same line wanderer was showing, the other line I posted earlier... oh bother - I'm not sure, it might be the same line after all

my best guess is bouncy time, I'm not feeling anything being resolved until the auction is sorted out.

(edit - by bouncy time I mean a bunch of dangerous chop, not like trampoline bouncy to the moon type stuff, not yet.

As someone who isn't an obvious shill or troll,  I also agree.  The 2-1 thing and extra neptune being exclusive was outright deceptive.

Indeed. Deceptive practices seem the rule rather than the exception in the bitcoin world. It does not bode will for the success of bitcoin.

The article on arstechnica that got slashdotted was just full of bitcoin manufacturers, service vendors, and trading houses and the like are just shady MFs. The comments are just as ignorant, but unfortunately that's the perception and what grabs news headlines. If this industry is ever going to prosper then we need to get smarter as consumers and business owners and support honest, decent businesses and conduct ourselves in the same manner. Otherwise, this industry will never get the respect it deserves and never leave the realm of hobbyists.

huh?

I hope it never leaves the realm of hobbyists. Ambitious hobbyists? perhaps, but hobbyists nonetheless.

too bad it feels like that ship has already sailed....  Cry

Meh, (ill-informed) hobbyists will still exist. Go read the Rbox and S3 threads. They're still excited about 300-500GHs units.

But yes, profitable @home mining is gasping it's last breath if not already dead.

gasping in the heat! yeah, I turned off all my miners today just to take a bitcoin vacation and enjoy a nice, quiet, cool apartment...

it lasted about an hour.

if you want bitcoin I fear you will have to buy it from now on.

not completely a bad thing as it (commercial mining farms) could keep the price down for a long enough time frame that a larger percentage of the public can get on the train.

the more people that are aboard, the further the train can go.

meh, if they improve on the design by batch 3, (which I expect they will) then getting a neppy tomorrow and getting another better one some ? months from now for 11 bitcoin? meh, I'll take it - maybe I'm just a die-hard miner)

== however == if they improve to the point that they only ship 4 module neppy's instead of 5 module ones in batch 3 because "it's still 3 TH's" then the gloves will come off.

*edit* forget neptune, should have called this the octopus.
