Does anyone else get a fatal error when trying to installl the windows wallet?

Has Zerocoin been SUCCESSFULLY implemented into Libertycoin or is it just planned?

The OP includes this line...

Quote
Truly Anonymous Transactions with Zerocoin technology implemented.
Does anyone know if any other coin has successfully implemented Zerocoin or is this the first?

Guys, I don't get it.

What's the point of bitcoin if there's darkcoin?
I suspect more and more people will be asking this very question over time.
1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 10, 2014, 04:47:10 PM
I have quite a big amount of DRK, between 15K and 25K. The big price rise is making me want to sell an I'm really having doubts if I should or not. Do you think price will keep rising? Or I should sell and buy a bit lower price? It's not a message to bring panic sells as I have a private buyer and we would make the transaction on our own.

Thank you
I think you should sell it.

To me.

I'll give $2.20 per DRK.  PM me if interested.

Firstly, apologies for causing distress. I am new to forums. I should not have framed my position using antagonistic language.

I have no vested interest. As a trader I am also a newb. Darkcoin was my first love, I then made the age old mistake of going all in on asiacoin, hence ac2.

I have learnt the value of community.

What I should have posted...

Hi there Dark community. I like what you are creating.

Have you considered ring signitures?

Maybe you have spent a lot of time on a good solution, but not the best?

Now that you have a large market share and recognizible branding, perhaps you could combine methods (collateral payments vs encrypted packets of info) rather than compete?
Much better indeed.  Links to info about ring signature information and your insight into why they are beneficial and potentially better is also appreciated.

Maybe I was wrong about you.  You're probably much more mature than I guessed.  For that, I also apologize.
1048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 10, 2014, 11:25:25 AM
Rather than dismissing your limitations, embrace them and improve. Masternodes requiring 1000% drk in exchange for 10% of future mining fees appeals to those of you who only seek profit. To the hackers/ adversaries/ tax departments/ NSA/ even just the suspicious, this solution is a joke.

What should you do? Make it better! Adopt ring signatures. Stay ahead of the curve or you will be left behind.

I probably shouldn't bother as your mind is obviously made up that DarkSend is "a joke", but here goes...

1. If you have truly been following the thread you would know that ring signatures have been discussed for DarkSend V2.

2. Why not do it now?  Well because you can't leave DarkSend in beta ad infinitum while Evan is continually trying to catch up to the "cutting edge".  At some point it has to be open sourced and released - and when it is... it will the best open source, fully released anonymous cryptocoin solution at the time.  If you know of any other anonymous coins that are not in alpha, beta, testing, brainstorming, or some other preliminary phase then point them out.  AFAIK, there are none.

3.  The 1000DRK held in stasis while you function as a masternode (and get 10% of mining reward) is a better solution than having the masternodes being able to be set up at no cost.  Proof of stake while actually providing a service i.e. Proof of Service.  DRK will be one of the first coins with this feature.

4. Stop with the naivety in thinking that just because the NSA has "infinite" money that they can click their heels three times and buy up all the DRK and own all the masternodes.  To buy, you need people to sell - if the NSA tried this the coin price would go through the roof.

5. The NSA doesn't even care about DRK now and DarkSend would have to be a smash hit before they do.  By that time there will likely be a few thousand masternodes forcing them to add all the more value to the coin to accumulate enough masternodes.

6.  How much is "enough" anyway? Several rounds of DarkSend will be used by those really looking for anonymity.  The NSA would need what -- 65%?, 80%? of all the masternodes to get information reliably.  You only need to go through ONE clean node before you are anonymous.  To get all the DRK for that, just how much money would they need to dump into the coin? That in turn would just make DRK more widely known - what are the effects of that?

I could continue, but I won't.  You are drastically oversimplify things by saying "the NSA has a lot of money so therefore your solution of requiring 1000 DRK for masternodes is a joke".  This is a very good solution for the time being, i.e. DarkSend V1.  How it evolves after that point?  Well that is unknown, but the main reason I invested in this coin is not because DarkSend per say, but because Evan is dedicated to improving the anonymous solution that will be used with Darkcoin now and in the future -- whether that takes us to ring signatures or something else entirely.
Nice writeup.  As an investor in cryptocurrency (and previously many startup companies) the bolded portion is the area the vast majority of people do not understand.  History is littered with countless good ideas that didn't have the team to properly implement them.  I invest in the team, first and foremost.  In that regard, I am EXTREMELY comfortable with my Darkcoin investment.

I'm a big believer in darkcoin... and I am shorting at .0051
How do you short?  Is there an exchange doing this now?

His meaning is that he tried to sell at around 0.0051 to buy back at lower price. There is always a risk involved here, if it doesn't go down he will end up missing the train and hating himself or just rebuying back at higher rate than he sold Tongue

its a risky short as we are now only a few days away from a major milestone.
It's not a short.  It was a sale with the hope of buying back cheaper.  A, "Short" in equity trading terms is where you borrow someone else's equity on margin in a bet that the price goes down so that you can buy it back at that lower price to, "Cover" your short.

VERY different things.  I was hoping an exchange had set margin trading and shorting up.  The first that does it well will make a ton of money.

I am adding an additional 200 DRK to this bounty.  So it is now 500 DRK.

All, the hardfork will break p2pool code. There is currently a bounty of

300DRK + US$100
I will add 200 DRK to that bounty so it is 500.

Do we want to setup a bounty for an already hardened PIMP or BAMT masternode image that only needs the user to do the last few config steps?

Let's not forget, all the POS coins are doing very well and the more people that can setup masternodes, the more Dark is removed from the money supply and the the higher the price will go for everyone.  If Masternodes stay only for the highly technically inclined, then its effect on removing supply will stay negligible.
I am willing to put up a 250 DRK bounty for this.

A small suggestion for the darkcoin.io website.

Make the main navigation buttons clickable if they don't have multiple links in the dropdown.  For example, don't make me hover, then move to the dropdown for, "News" when there is only one item in the dropdown.  It's fine to have the dropdown, but also make the main nav button a clickable link.

I've taken a step back from this thread for awhile and came back today.  I notice some people are still talking about Darkcoin being, "Instamined".

If you go through the early days of this thread, you will see me pop up.  I do not do any mining, never have.  I'm an investor and mining has never been my thing.  In the early days of this coin, there was a TREMENDOUS amount of VERY CHEAP coin available.  You will see me (and others, including the developer, Evan) posting in this thread offering to buy xx,xxx DRK for 1 bitcoin.  I can assure you that multiple deals via PM happened.  In addition, if you look at the blockchain, you will notice huge movements of coin in those early weeks.  I was literally putting up 50,000 DRK buy orders on Poloniex and THEY WERE GETTING FILLED.  And I was not the only person doing this.

Yes, early miners mined a lot of coin.  But they sold a TON of that coin as well to people like me and I have subsequently sold and distributed coin as well.  In fact, you can see me making 500 DRK donations within this thread in some of the early days, especially before KGW was implemented.  I suspect that this coin is actually quite well distributed at this point.

For the record, I only plan to sell a little DRK here and there as it goes up.  I'm an investor and in this coin for the long haul.

Guys, please use the ignore button I point out in the image below (the button is below the username of each person).  It works very well and it would be nice to keep this thread more civil and mature.

Idea for a video for Darkcoin:

1.  Different people holding up their credit card statements and checkbook:

- Person 1: "I bought a 10 inch dildo"
- Person 2: "I just bought my herpes medication"
- Person 3: "My husband and I just booked a trip to Cancun and won't be home for three weeks"
- Person 4: "I just donated to Planned Parenthood and the rest of my family is Pro Life"
- Person 5: "I just purchased three ounces of gold I'm keeping in my home"
- Person 6: "I just purchased a movie that is anti-government"
- Person 7: "I just donated to a politician most of my neighbors hate"
- Person 8: "I just bought tickets to a co-splay convention"
- Person 9: "I collect Magic the Gathering Cards and just bought $1,000 worth"
- Person 10: "I just signed up for chocolatecoveredfeet.com"

And any others the community can come up with.

2.  On the screen comes up, "Your checking account and credit cards are no longer private.  Neither is Bitcoin.  We are proud to present the only privacy centric, ANONYMOUS cryptocurrency:

Exactly my thinking.  There is no liquidity issue and there never will be.

Decimal points move to the left in deflationary, capped cryptocurrency. This worry comes from having one's head still stuck in print-more-money land. I can spend 1DRK just as easily as I can spend 0.00001DRK...

+1

~15-20% seems like a good number to me as well.

I think 7% to 8% would be ideal. But, what is far more ideal is picking a damn number, even if it isn't perfect, and sticking with it.

+1

7% per year.

2015 - 930,000 DRK
2016 - 864,900 DRK
2017 - 804,357 DRK
2018 - 748,052 DRK
2019 - 695,688 DRK
2020 - 646,990 DRK

I looked at a bunch of different settings and picked 7%, the curve looks pretty nice and it still creates a good long term incentive for investment and mining. Goes into effect on block 210240, then each year after that.

https://github.com/evan82/darkcoin/commit/0f2c10e18a695630464d3b1895b9edca3e33a1d0

Back to my work on DarkSend now  Smiley (I have many exciting things to show everyone next week!)
Will there be a 7% reduction at block 210240 or will the first reduction take place one year thereafter?

Thank you.
1060  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vault of Satoshi asks What Coins Do You Want to See? on: March 20, 2014, 02:16:23 AM
As an early adopter of Bitcoin, I have been enjoying the innovation some altcoins provide.  Other coins may not offer a lot of innovation, but have a strong community behind them which it itself is exciting to see.  It must be difficult for exchanges to determine which altcoins to support.

I speculate with many Cryptocurrencies, but I am holding three long term:

1.  Bitcoin - tried and true
2.  Dogecoin - the community behind it inspires me.
3.  Darkcoin - quite possibly the altcoin with the most innovation.  The developer is fantastic and has integrated an exceptional level of anonymity.  You wouldn't want me to be able to read your credit card statement yet with every single cryptocurrency out there, that's exactly what people can do.  Darkcoin solves that.

As such, I respectfully request that you add Darkcoin.

Thank you for your consideration.
