I meant transactions like 10.25636012 what happens to the .00636012 if you're only going down to two decimal places, and won't that make the .00636012 easy to track?
With that implementation there must be rounding to the lowest denomination, so the payment would be 10.25 or 10.256. I think the smallest denomination should be about a penny in value, so if the price rises we could add lower denominations.
If Darkcoin appreciates like we all hope it will, I'm guessing you will wish you went out a couple more decimal places early on.

Every clones and even the well established coins would add the darksend tech to theirs . .
Will this anyways affect the growth potential of DRK???
It is all about the community and future development.  If we come together as a community and eduffied and hopefully future developers continue to improve Darkcoin, then we're golden.  If the community is only in it for short term profit and eduffield and other devs don't feel like making improvements, then we're in trouble.

If you give your address, I'd like to send a little DRK your way for your time and effort.

'preciate it. I kicked the text contrast down another notch -- let me know if it helped. I can go further until we get to some kind of equilibrium of user happiness!
It definitely helped but the light text on dark background is still rough for me.

Donation sent.

I apologize, I don't mean to be so harsh.  I understand you're volunteering your time and it really is appreciated.  You've created some beautiful work in this thread.

In short, dark color schemes just don't work for my eyes and the majority of people.  I know you've worked hard on it and the header is gorgeous, but I honestly feel dark color schemes will turn many away Sad

I get where you're coming from and I appreciate the feedback. I have to take everyone's feedback into consideration and it's not uncommon to have at least a fair % of people who aren't pleased with a given design. Having said that, if the theme is just painful to read for a reasonable subset of users, it needs to be changed. I like to do things democratically so maybe we can do up a few prototypes and call a vote if we can't sufficiently improve the existing one.

Good lord, our developer shouldn't have to not post in the Reddit for his own coin because it, "Looks terrible".

That reddit literally makes me sick to my stomach to look at, it is that hard on the eyes.

Will whoever is doing the CSS for it PLEASE have a normal Reddit for the main area and just keep the Darkcoin header?  You're driving away so many users in my opinion.  And our own developer.

Agree so hard. There is a thread about it, whoever is in charge made a couple tweaks but it's still horrible. He seems adamant to keep the theme close to what it is, despite many people requesting it is changed. I suggested googling "dark color schemes" for some better ideas, as right now it's really a problem to read for more than a minute or two. As a coder who prefers dark color schemes, I'm positive it could be done better with about 10 minutes of effort. And yet, no response. :/

Can I ask that you please be a bit more constructive, because I've actively addressed people's criticisms, fixed all the glaring RES stylesheet issues, basically done everything people have asked, and received a lot of positive feedback from people who were previously complaining (mostly about RES specific problems that weren't visible on my end at the time, which have since been fixed). If you still have a problem with it, I'm as open to changing things as I've always been. I'm putting my own time into this for the community, after all. You just need to be specific about the problem you're having. It's like filing a bug report -- if you don't give specifics, it's hard for the dev to address the problem.

I'm also a coder who uses dark colour schemes so I know what works for me, but I only have my own eyes to go by, so if the scheme doesn't agree with your eyes I need you to be specific about the what & why.

Hello All,

I am VERY glad to have joined this community, and i hope I will not get on anyone's nerves with newbie questions or suggestions.
I am a technology analyst (aka- economist) and while I understand barely half of what you guys are talking about regarding mining hardware, efficiency and optimization, I hope to contribute my 2cents in ideas and in observation on key elements (that's basically the only two things that Analysts are claimed to be worthwhile at).

building a network effect on non-techies:
===============================
I have been into cryptos for a long while and I have lately felt that all my friends who are not techies want to get into cryptos, but do not have the minimum understanding (in spite of all the material out there). They have all heard about bitcoin; they have all heard about gox collapsing and coins being stolen at exchanges... and they come to me asking how to start.
Normally, i tell them to open an account at btc-e, buy btc and transfer it because if they start by downloading a -qt wallet and have to wait for 24hours until it synchronizes, and then learn how to open it, or encrypt it, etc. they simply abandon any interest in getting into the game.

Last night, I downloaded and installed darkcoin-qt because I decided darkcoin is in line with everything I believe in crypto (open source, no pre-mine, no billion coins, difficultly adjustment, darksend/anonymity, etc.).
It them struck me that within minutes, the wallet was synchronized and ready to go...

I know this sounds trivial because it is a new coin... but it's also a huge advantage.
I've been playing around with the idea of social network effect as means for bringing more people into the game.
From my perspective, we are in 1990 in terms of internet adoption, with merely 2 million crypto users, just as it was 2 million internet users in the 1990, aka - really early in the game.
I know that until now there were bonuses and bounties given to users, but I'm thinking about making a "trusted social pool", like a pyramid scheme, only there is no "reward", only giving.

Yesterday, I bought a handful of DRK, and I am responsible for some of the rise in price.
Suppose I put 1,000 drk into such pool, and invited 10 people that are trusted by the community or myself, each gets 100 drk and is required to open 10 wallets to 10 people he/she trusts and transfer 10 drk each. each of them will them be required to open 10 wallets and transfer 1 drk to each. and so forth.

Within the third interaction, we reach 1,000 users... and thus the word spreads.

I know this probably sounds naive, but if we had a structured system to verify that the users who get the coins really open new accounts for new people, that could be great. If there is no such system, then social ties/trust is a way to go.
Having coins transfered within minutes, and darkcoin-qt installed and synchronized in minutes is a great advantage that will evaporate over time. Why not be the first coin to tun this disadvantage into an advantage?
Welcome to the community!

The biggest hurdle with your idea is determining an efficient way to verify that the new people are real.  Methods like email, IP, etc won't work.  It's extremely easy for someone to spoof identities online.

Anyone else here getting the feeling the price of Darkcoin is about to explode?

Normally I don't make posts like this, but I'm feeling a breakout tonight.  I'm liking what I see in the charts.

Hmm can you explain...
Crystal ball?

Oohhhh nice nice....
Do you think that trading with crypto follow the same rules than forex?
Certainly.  Of course, technical analysis is full of confirmation bias so I could very easily be wrong Smiley

Confirmation is too slow Undecided
This is why KGW is needed.

I don't see how KGW is related to confirmation time?  They are ~10 minute blocks by design.

Also, these prices are awesome but I wish we'd had another week to mine without so much competition  Grin
If difficulty goes way up, a whale goes away, and we don't have the miners to solve the blocks, those confirmation times of 10 minutes become MUCH longer.

With KGW, you'll always be around a 10 minute confirmation time.

I agree $100 is little in the grand scheme of things
It'll buy about five pints in Reykjavik. Change the world indeed.
And 10,000 Bitcoin once bought a pizza.

Ok, you're at least as intellectual honest as myself, perhaps even more. Thanks!

Regarding the point of pump-and-dump and your view against "banksters" and Icelandic people's "shackles", take a look at this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=474757.0

See the irony?
I admittedly don't see the irony, but feel free to point it out to me as I occasionally wonder where my keys are as they sit on my desk in front of me.

Regarding the post you linked to, I can't say it was the most well-written, articulate diatribe I have ever read.  I would say it sounds more pump and dump than informative.  But that's the way of cryptocurrencies at present.  We have to sift through a ton of garbage to find the gems.  And sometimes even those gems are locked inside rocks with ugly exteriors and we have to use our imagination and some tools to help unlock the potential.

Is Auroracoin a gem?  I sincerely don't know.  But I think it has the potential to be one.  And if it does turn out to be a gem, it's going to be really exciting to watch and partake of.  Please note that I used, "MAY BE" in the title.  Not, "Will be".  I'm not trying to pump and then dump Auroracoin.  I'm only interested in bringing attention to a coin that is doing something different and potentially very exciting.  If people do their own research and see it the same way as me, great.  If not, that's ok too.  Time will tell.

Unless this coin is released by Icelandic devs and supporters, you guys don't see a problem of foreigners feeling entitled to replace the currency of Iceland?

You also don't see a problem of foreigners pumping-and-dumping a national currency on an exchange? Also, who said Icelanders want to get rid of the government they elected?
Auroracoin gives them CHOICE.  If they choose not to adopt it, that's fine.  If they like the idea and utilize it, fantastic.

As for foreigners trading others' currency, it is done to the tune of trillions of dollars a day on the forex markets.

And nobody ever said anything about getting rid of their government.
So, you don't see the irony, neither you're interested in directly addressing the points?

Very well. Let's hope this is INDEED the best for Icelanders, not a "rat's lab" experiment.
I apologize, I'm not sure what I didn't address.  Please restate it and I'll be happy to answer if I'm able to.
1238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: February 20, 2014, 08:26:03 PM

this can't be changed easily now. Are there any other possible defenses? How likely is the attack to happen and kill the coin?

Sure it can.  You hard fork with KGW implementing at a future block, make sure all the pools update, and release the new wallets.  I've gone through it with a variety of coins, the last being Darkcoin.

Auroracoin does not sound like a coin desiring world wide acceptance.

Giving free coins to Icelanders is very nice but  does nothing to endear itself to the global community.

I consider this coin as an experiment. If it doesn't work in Iceland, it'll probably work nowhere.

Which is exactly why we (as supporters of crypto) need to put in some effort to make this work  Grin

I'm still missing the point of what makes this "the most exciting altcoin of 2014". Please enlighten me.

50% premined for the residents of Iceland fails to excite me.  What else makes this coin worthy of investment for *outsiders*?

Make me an honorary Icelander and give me some free coins and I'll jump onboard ... Wink
Exciting doesn't always mean you get to profit.  I personally find the potential of a country adopting a cryptocurrency extremely exciting for a plethora of reasons.
