3) Alt-chain merit giving. Once 10 alt accounts or so have enough merit, they could now use their monthly allowance to instantly pass the merit requirements on their new alt accounts.
What monthly allowance?
You can send a maximum of 50 merit to one user in a 30 day window. After that, you cannot send them any additional merit before the time passes.
I think it's supposed to increase the spread of merit (instead of some users sending all 200 sMerit to each other) and make farming harder/easier to spot.

Can i ask? If i give merit to others my merit will reduce? Example i have 100 merit and i give 1 merit to one people and my merit will become -1 so my merit will become 99  ?
I've added a tl;dr to my first reply:

You have Merits, those you cannot send.
You also have sMerits, those you can only send, they have no other purpose.

When someone gives Merit to you they lose sMerit of the amount transfered and you gain Merit as well as sMerit (which in case you can send again).

Example: Should I send 10 Merit to you for a post, my sMerit would decrease by 10.
Your Merit would increase by 10 and your sMerit would increase by 5.

Merits are exclusively earned, but the sMerit part you also get keeps the circulation flowing.

(Ignoring merit sources here, for the sake of making an easy example.)
Hope that helps a little.
622  Economy / Services / Re: [Crypto-Games.net] ★ Signature Campaign ★ Senior - Legendary[FULL] ★ on: January 25, 2018, 01:25:17 AM
Since the addition of the two new Sub-forums under the Other section, "Serious Discussion" and "Ivory Tower" I am wondering if the campaign rules ought to be amended, or do you intend on qualifying posts in those sections for payment?
Yes, those need to be adjusted. I've assumed common sense dictates that you wont be paid in sections where your signatures wont be displayed, but it's better to spell that out and add a direct rule about it,
if only for the purpose of avoiding confusion or possible conflicts.

I'm going to assume that posts in this section will not be counted, however I think it would be impressively revolutionary to be a signature campaign that promotes usage of these sections even without it directly displaying signatures.
To be honest, I'm torn when it comes to that new section.
I think it is a good test case, but I also think other solutions (eg the new merit systems) are needed and can do way more than banning posts with content to a subsection.
Anyway, not gonna go too far off topic about my own view on how to fight spam, I've stated that more than enough in the appropriate sections, so anyone can figure out what I think/suggest.

Hero with 1000 Merit instead of 500
He's eligible for legendary, so he gets 1000 merit.
Well, "eligible" is random
The user is a legendary member now, I assume they already were tagged as one when the initial merit score was calculated.

but it would definitely be too harsh to get just 500. I get it now
That's what I got  Cheesy

Implement SMAS to all campaign managers and must be managed by the moderators if an user listed to SMAS moderators can disable the signature of that user preventing the user from joining signature campaigns only problem is can moderators disable signature remotely? I think this more humane than giving negative feedback
Enforcing SMAS as mandatory is something I've read a few times already in this and the other thread.
I've made an update post to that (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545652.msg28858331#msg28858331).
Would like to hear theymos' opinion on the matter, though.
625  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 01:00:08 AM
Is there a place we can see the posts we've earned merit from?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

Interesting.  Are merits meant to be traded or exclusively earned?

Jr with 0 Merit instead of 30
The junior member rank requires 0 merit and 30 activity. Everyone below member has 0 merit to start with.
Members have 10. I assume you're mixing up merit with activity here.

And is it possible for any existing user to lower their rank because of the introduction of merit? Someone complained about that
I think there were a few bugs, I saw a few full members rank down to junior for a while (fixed already).
626  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:27:52 AM
@ topic again: is it possible to show accumulated merit points on the front page of the forum section? Like +10000 (over 9000!!) to show that this is a really interesting thread?
Maybe remove the icons for normal topic, hot topic and very hot topic and replace them with icons based on merit score given in a thread?
A thread having 100+ replies (very hot topic right now) isn't a good thing anymore (I assume it used to be back in the days).

Could have normal topic, quality topic and high quality topic, with increasing merit score.
And yes, I know that can be tampered with, but it at least provides a little more value than than the currently reply based ranking.
627  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:22:01 AM
I usually go to the Beginners & Help forum, so that I can help newbies, I like it. But why I'll do this now? The newbies don't have sMerit to send me if they like my post, right?
To be nice? To help people? Not everything has to have some sort of measurable reward.
Yes. Yes. Or why do you post in beginners and help right now? Before the merit system?

But if you need more incentives than just helping others: you arent the only one reading beginners & help that isnt a newbie.
Good posts can be rewarded, even if they aren't directly related to you or helping you.
I can give merit as legendary to another person helping a newbie. The system stays the same, it's just different people rewarding your help.
628  Other / Meta / Re: What is the function of the "Merit" score? on: January 25, 2018, 12:18:52 AM
One question when I press +merit it looks like I can give merit to myself ( Did not really try it ) !! That would be really bad !
No, you can't. Ther will be a error saying you cannot send to yourself.
Already mentioned a few times in this thread, test it.
629  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:15:26 AM
This might be something tiny and I dont know if everyone would agree, but can you move the merit button to the left side of the quote(/edit/delete) buttons?
I know it's just a small change, but I've seen myself misclicking a few times already when selecting post links via the #number.
630  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:09:51 AM
Given that it took 3+ years to implement, I'd say your assessment is probably right. <humor at theymos' expense, if you get my drift>
Greetings from 2100, the new forum software is nice.

That may or may not have been my drift. I love this place!
And this place loves you <3
631  Other / Meta / Re: What is the function of the "Merit" score? on: January 25, 2018, 12:07:36 AM
If it could somehow become a currency or a token or an asset in the future, that would be even more awesome.
These are the times I miss the -Merit button (even though it was only used against me and was only available for like 5 minutes).
Merit is your reputation, the quality of your posts, your post history, that's not an asset/token, and certainly not a currency.

All legendary members got 200 sMerit. All Heros got 88 sMerit, dont know the numbers for lower ranks.
(edit: 6 sMerit for full members, 19 sMerit for Senior Members)
There's more to it than that. For example, I only have 46 sMerit
That was my assumption before the thread was released. I've since read up on that.
632  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:04:57 AM
I cannot see that merit button people keep talking about. Is it because I'm a new member?
You dont have any merit/sMerit to give. Once you receive merit, and thus gain sMerit, you should see the button.
I assume it's hidden for those that can't use it anyway.
633  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 25, 2018, 12:02:26 AM
I'm very happy that things have started to happen, hopefully we can all stop bitching about account farming now (including me).
Thanks so much theymos, I'm looking forward to this becoming a forum I enjoy visiting again.
This is a first step in a right direction, I wonder if more steps are planned.
The problematic of farming new accounts should be contered with this change, but what about already farmed, high ranked shitposters?

There's been a bit of discussion about possible concepts that could be implemented today, and ecuamobi made a suggestion that was well responded.
Did you read the thread, and if so, what are your opinions on those suggestions, theymos?

Quoting over:

Another idea which could work, something like merging the SMAS list into the trust system:
  • On every profile, besides Trust, there's an option to mark user as spammer
  • This instantly makes that user's signature invisible for the user who marked him, or add him into the ignore list, to be decided
  • If the user who marked him is on DT1 or DT2; staff; or any other list to be decided, then the marked user losses the right to wear a signature. This way, it's not up to signature managers to allow them into a campaign or not. The forum would disable the signature for him
Some details should be discussed, but that would be the idea.
634  Economy / Services / Re: ★☆★ Bitvest.io - Plinko Sig. Campaign ★☆★ (JR-Hero Accepted) on: January 24, 2018, 11:52:51 PM
There was an update to the way how the forum ranks work, which resulted in junior members being removed, new members now go from newbie to member in one step.
We'll have to adjust the campaign rules based on that and do a few changes. Everyone who wants to read up on that new merit system, here is the thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

The adjustments wont affect the currently running round, they'll come into play with the next payround.
Will let you know more after I have discussed things in detail with lightlord.

636  Other / Meta / Re: [SMAS] Signature Managers against Spam (light version) on: January 24, 2018, 11:43:18 PM
This is great work you are doing here fighting SPAM.
This was a great idea when we introduced it. but there are so many other managers who are not paying attention to it. Obviously it is still a good program to have in place, I just wish it was universal and made a must for all managers to reference
I think we could use some fresh input, maybe theymos would even be ready to semi-cooperate on it.
The recently introduced merit system already gives users the ability to determine (not fully, but in parts) which rank another user should have.
This is a huge change from previously where only activity (-> time) determined your rank.

I see this as sign of theymos wanting to give more power to the community.
Maybe a next step would be a SMAS 2.0 with official sanction from the forum/administration?

(I might be going out on a limb here, this merit stuff has me excited for change and improvements.)
637  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 24, 2018, 11:35:06 PM

I assume, the 50 limit doesn't apply here and I could neg. you by a few thousands.
Update: Tested. There is no limit on the negative numbers. Sorry Luptin. Cheesy

But...but...but...this is going to screw things up for all the Jr member accounts and their airdrops, and their prospects for a long and prosperous career of typing "Joined, good project" to rank up and get paid.

This system is another example of doing something instead of nothing.  We'll see if it helps.
Classic arrogant DT2 snobist elevated elite boyclub member thing stuff some bla bla

638  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 24, 2018, 11:29:19 PM
This might not be fair for new people, I don't know if others will ever consider to give merit to newbies. Guess I had to been registered here like 1year back to get some kind of "good" positions. Juniors and newbies are often treated poorly.
It's perfectly fair to new people.  It just means that in order for you to rank up or earn Merit, you have to write high-quality posts, rather than just spam a bunch of worthless stuff.  You're not being treated poorly; everyone has to write high-quality posts.  The only difference is that higher ranks start with more Merit as a baseline, which doesn't provide them any kind of advantage over you.
Well it provides them with sMerit, with more sMerit to vote for other posts if I may say this. While I, myself and I DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY to give merit to others. So if you are an "old schooler" here you have more power in your hands. Same applies with getting this "merit source" status you have to be high rank to be able to give merit to others and this is not related with our knowledge or engagement within the community.
This is a necessary evil when introducing a system like this, especially in a forum/community already running for years.
You somehow need to introduce merit and sMerit into circulation, if you wouldn't, there would be no way to gain them and rank up.
It makes sense giving those that are here for a long time and contributed over that time a little head start.

Hopefully people will send merit points based on post quality and not based on the rake of an user (eg "that's a newbie, I wont send him merit"), and if they do,
this won't be a problem in a year, or maybe two. It will only be a bit off balance at this very start.

If there is no demeriting right now. How does this guy at the topic -link below- demerited by the same guy?
Quote
Merited by crairezx20 (-10), crairezx20 (-10), crairezx20 (-10)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2605767.140
Did you forget to limit the merit you can send to positive numbers?

This user now has a merit of -20 and the user who gave the negative merits still has 500.
I wonder if that actually increased their sMerit by 30 instead of decreasing it.

I hate you lauda. Why do you have to do this  Cry
639  Other / Meta / Re: What is the function of the "Merit" score? on: January 24, 2018, 11:23:14 PM
Edit: How about those who will target one account merit-ing over and over to look like he was one of his alts and for the pleasure of getting him banned?
Specially those who have a lot of accounts now. Can that happen?
You only have a finite amount of sMerit to spend. Also there are limits to how many merit you can send someone (Seems 50 per month/30 days right now).
You shouldnt attempt to spend your limited sMerit on trying to make someone look bad (youd only make yourself look bad as the merit points being sent for a specific post are public).

We'll see how the system works out during the next day/weeks, I think.
All in all an interesting change. Merit points reward quality over quantity (as activity does in a way). That's a good step forward.
640  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: January 24, 2018, 11:10:05 PM
Instead of posting you 100% agree, you should have given me 100 merit.
You can only give 50 merit to a user in a 30 day window.
Unless they have an alt account, they cannot give you 100 merit (right now).

Press your middle mouse button when trying to open a link to open it in a new window. Problem solved. Now you should have given me 200 merit.
Same problem, 4 alt accounts?
