You should run this on the latest Bitconica hack.
1142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Bitcoinica Hacker on: July 14, 2012, 03:49:21 PM
I'll do it for 4k... 10%
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 14, 2012, 03:47:07 PM
Love it... "don't taint me bro"
HACKER:  This ^^^^

Even opens up a while line of shirts: "Bitconica's MtGox got compromised and all I got was this lousy taint..."
1144  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: July 14, 2012, 03:43:58 PM
Agreed, I like all of the options and DAMN that bill looks sexy.
1145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 14, 2012, 02:31:34 PM
(Jan tries to dodge the flames thrown by eWallet developers)

...flames...
Actually wouldn't MyWallet qualify?  Except maybe the user decided when to upgrade?
1146  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: July 14, 2012, 02:28:12 PM
It is all in the eye of the beholder (or customer in this case).

For people who have enjoy gambling and do not want to invest in their own mining hardware then GPUMAX is perfect.  Maybe you win, maybe you dont.

Looking at it using the same logic some people would ask why other sit in front of slot machines when they *know* that the house has an edge (i.e. they are paying for more for the coins they might win).   There are about 9,001 answers to that, but it is very similar.
1147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica MtGox account compromised on: July 14, 2012, 02:15:26 PM
I also find it likley that bit floor would have flagged it as well.

Also to the hacker: if you want to taint me feel free.
1148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dear Bitcoinica Hacker on: July 14, 2012, 04:13:47 AM
Also bitconicahacker: feel free to send some coin my way.
1149  Economy / Services / Re: [ANNOUNCE] TORwallet - anonymous mixing wallet service on: July 13, 2012, 10:20:00 PM
We are experiencing some issues with our tor server at the moment. Its not responding to its public IP address. There has been some rough weather in the area and a power outage. We believe that the UPS on the server may have ran dead before the power came back. One of us has to physically drive out to where the server is located and check on/reset it. Please give us a couple hours to get this resolved. Do not worry about your funds, we will be back.

Probably not the best idea publishing time and cause of outage on a public forum. You just narrowed down the possible physical locations of your "hidden" server somewhat.

Depending on who is searching i would say ALOT.

Compared with other data or other side-channel attacks it might even be possible to find the IP.
1150  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A public plea for help regarding Bitcoinica and my 24,841 BTC on: July 13, 2012, 08:04:54 PM
Apparently Mt.Gox knows who withdrew the 40k+40k, but they choose to protect the hacker.

Now that's just asinine, if true.

Quote
Evil Bit Burglar: "Mt Gox, plz send me, the Bitcoinica thief, lots and lots of stolen monies.  About 80k should do for now."
MtGox "Sure BitBurglar, no problem.  Here they are, you have fun retiring in St Tropez."

Quote
iCEBREAKER: "I've been using MtGox for a year with no problems, can I have $100 send to my Dwolla?"
MtGox "ZOMG Y U try to launder money?  We insist U give us copies of your GOVT DOX so U identity can be stolen EZ next time we get our shit haxord!"

Haha, now to spread FUD (because that is what the forums are for now right?) MtGox is bitconica hacker

or if anyone, it ought to honor famous scientists or engineers that brought about fundamental advances in the science of computing.
Or pictures of the LHC, Cern, ISS, Apollo rockets, internet, fire, electricity, light, bridges and other similar great advancements in science/engineering.

I nominate Al Gore... for without him we would have no internetz.
1152  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 13, 2012, 07:17:28 PM
I really hope withdrawal requests never come online/become automated.

I'm happy to wait a day or two.
Agree with this and to clarify my statement: withdrawal requests on the web.

Obviously I prefer my funds be handled by hand.  However I think this will be a requirement anyway given the BST backing.
1153  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 13, 2012, 06:47:10 PM
I actually am perfectly happy with having to PM for a withdrawal.  This means that a hacker would have to compromise BOTH my bitcoinmax account AND my forum account to steal funds.

I don't know how withdrawals work, but wouldn't the attacker be able to get your funds without access to your bitcoinmax account?

First PM saying "please change my withdrawal address", then PM again a few days later saying "please send 100 BTC".

They'd have to guess how much you had in your account I guess, and going over might tip payb.tc off that something fishy was going on.

Is there something in place to prevent this attack?

This is a very good point.

Personally I would prefer that *any* withdrawal requests would be GPG signed; however it isn't reasonable to assume that payb.tc accomodate the 14,001 different ways people want this handled.

Putting myself in his shoes I am not sure how I would want to handle that where it would provide good security vs easy management.  Remember guys he is only getting %0.1 which is not alot.
Very true, in some ways I wish he would take a little extra - this would provide more incentive to give time to the project and less incentive to run away!

(This is not to say I doubt his commitment or integrity)

I don't think that giving him a bigger cut is any incentive to not run away.

But this does pose an interesting question:  If payb.tc were to offer it; how much per week would you be willing to pay for 'extra services' and what would those services be?

My extra services would be:
 - Google Authenticator login (although not a big deal until withdrawal requests come to the web)
 - GPG Signed Confirmations for account changes/withdrawals.

However I am not sure how to answer my own question of 'how much' I would be willing to pay (vs gambling that I won't get compromised).

This is all assuming that payb.tc isn't just Intersango and going to 'get hacked' anyway Tongue

imho, with the addition of SSL, it's perfect as it stands.. I hope his security is better than bitcoinica.. Smiley

My only "wishlist" would be a form of some sort to request a withdrawl, save the email. Smiley

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks!

Note that this is all pure user interface work. The buttons click and everything but they they don't do much of anything yet.

There is still a fair amount of "down in the engine-room" work todo yet.

I understand... I do software development for a living, so I understand that there is WAY more work to do than looks like.

But I love what I am seeing Smiley
1157  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 100% proof pirate runs a ponzi (thought experiment) on: July 13, 2012, 02:55:53 PM
So, if anyone here has big money with pirate - what would you do if he disappeared tomorrow?
Be pissed for a day... then move on.

Nobody that has money with pirate is under the delusion that it is risk free, far from it.  But high risk=high reward.  I certainly don't want to see my coins disappear, but if they do I will still eat, still pay my bills, and still goto the movies.  But if they do not disappear.... I will still do ALL of that, just more of it Wink

1159  Economy / Gambling / Re: BTCBlink.com - Yet another bitcoin game. on: July 13, 2012, 02:46:58 PM
An change to the inputs or outputs of a transaction changes the tx id completely.  So all I need to do (as site operator) is keep changing the 'change' address of the tx that buys the last ticket until I get a tx id that makes me the winner.  It doesn't give any more security than just letting each user pick a single 'lucky digit' salt.

Seems like this might be like mining itself... you may find a winner immediately or in 3 weeks.  Could be alleviated by using a pre-selected mixer, which I think you suggested earlier.

I guess I am biased to the idea of using the blockchain for as much data as sanely possible due to the availability and distribution.
1160  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: July 13, 2012, 01:56:41 PM
Does the bonus get credited after, and not deducted from the TX cost?

The bonus gets credited in a separate transaction back to the sending address. I'll be adding more clarification on exactly how the bonus system works shortly. The bonus will be a 0.5% if coins are need again in future.
So is the bonus still being offered?
