Hey, Anyone happen to be around @ Defcon who can change $300 cash into the bitcoin equivalent? Call it $9/coin, so $300 for 33.33 bitcoins. I'll buy you a drink @ Masquerade Bar for your trouble! please e-mail phil21@gmail.com or find me on AIM @ philtwoone if you can make the dream happen. -Phil Casascius was selling some physical ones at the Rio

oh ok. thats strange. damn, i loved your script tho. I know i still owe you some bitcoins, i will have them soon.
I know it is very strange..... Thanks for the complement. I will keep an eye for them, thanks! I hope to narrow it down more and file a GM bug. However in the meantime you can setup another profile just for GM/sounds and then have a profile for the 'real' page without GM. If you want some guideance on this I can help.

You have to actually make a deposit, thats the catch. Secondly, there are no guarantees, its 100% risk. So do I lose the initial deposit and only receive the weekly interest in return? Is this in any way not a pyramid scheme? Also if you want to play in the pool but think you might drown then check out the PPT.x bonds on the GLBSE which are partially insured.

Bruno:
This is a very good thing to do... get us to start thinking. I am having lunch with my father in a few days to explain bitcoins to him. He is very much the skeptic/non-technologist so thinking this through is very helpful.
Also I think that Serith made a very good point about people not understanding 'cryptography' or the other underlying technologies. I honestly believe that a majority of the US population believes what they see on CSI and that the cops can just pop in a CD and decrypt anything. Given this assumption alone it may be wise to steer clear of that conversion to begin with.
Also having different presentations/maps ready for different audiences would be great.
Thanks for making me 'put this on paper' so-to-speak.

p.s. it would be great if everyone could give their opinion of the new page It makes a lot of sense It does.... I just couldn't help myself. Lord I apologize.

I just searched for 'steve_bobs' in my IRC logs, and it came up a few times:
Looks like your hits were about the same as mine.

Got the second half of my order today Ohhhh Shiny! Cants wait for mine, but it won't be that big of a pile.

Or maybe he was tired of being contacted by dozens of people and decided to go under a different nick temporarily?
Still seems very odd that he would pick the same 'throw away' nick as the 3rd hacker though....

Not been on IRC in years but wouldn't this; [00:49] * ChanServ sets mode: +o phantomcircuit [01:01] * phantomcircuit sets mode: -o phantomcircuit [01:01] * phantomcircuit is now known as steve_bobs
indicate that someone logged in with the spoofed ident of phantiom and was de-oped because their mac id did not truely match? Just seems odd he would de-op himself otherwise..
First of all it isn't mac address (i think you meant IP address). Second FreeNode servers would not all him to be logged in that long without authenticating. Third he used that IP more than once. See my previous post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=95738.msg1056652#msg1056652 which has a history of this.

Honestly that picture creeps me out. Now if you can morph a hot girl onto that then the offer just got more interesting.

14.0.1 OSX
Hmm, well it works on FF 14.0.1 on Windows 7. I have no access to OSX computer though. It's very odd that this should break. Even odder... it works in chrome.... doing some more research. EDIT: It is most certainly something to do with greasemonkey so don't waste any time tracking this down Clark. I am not sure why, but with GM enabled (but any userscripts disabled) is when this problem happens. @kentrolla if you disable GM (make sure the check next to Enabled in the GM menu is unchecked) then the new (blue) orders will disappear. It is very strange this is happening at all. GM must be re-writing some events that are messing with the timers.

Can you tell if the bet the OP placed won? Can you tell whether the address it was sent from is one of these send-only Gox addresses? If the bet didn't win and it really did come from a Gox address, you're out no BTC and you know he wasn't trying to scam you, right?
Can you imagine the precedent this will set if they returned a losing bet? If the BTC returned to the gox addresses really can't be recovered by anyone, it's something of a special case, isn't it?. But Evorhees says he can't return anything, so that's that. That is the problem... everyone thinks their case is special. Trust me the last thing erik wants to do is start making exceptions. The rule of "all bets are final" is *much* better. The support headache that would be incurred by SD would be astronomical. It sucks, I know. I didn't do it with 50BTC, but I am not rich and even 4 BTC (4.6 actually) is still significant for me. But I learn and I move on so hopefully i don't have to pay the stupid tax on another larger, or more important transfer, in the future.
