1022  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: LargeCoin is scared of BFL on: July 26, 2012, 07:47:40 PM
Unless you want to spend $5-10M in NRE, you're going with a structured ASIC process.
Who's to say they haven't spent that much? With a VC investor, you can spend more than you normally would without one.
Also wonder how applicable these chips would be to the new Utah NSA datacenter.... if they would be then the idea of having VC is *very* probable.
1023  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Public STATEMENT Regarding Bitcoinica account hack at MtGox on: July 26, 2012, 07:23:26 PM
It's not fake. I found essentially the same thing in my chat logs for #bitcoin-dev; sadly the public logs don't seem to contain nickname changes. I'm not sure what it means though...

FWIW This is what I found on my own personal logs (which I know to be untampered [unless the hax0r got my machine too])

Code:
$ grep steve_bobs *
#bitcoin_20120712.log:[23:02:21] *** phantomcircuit is now known as steve_bobs
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:23:52] <steve_bobs> still aren't
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:24:33] <steve_bobs> they're a bank in europe
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:24:42] <steve_bobs> in the us they're a payment processor or something
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:25:01] <steve_bobs> iz, you sure that's what actually happened? seemed to have been something different from that
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:25:53] <steve_bobs> innocent, dialcoin
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:26:12] <steve_bobs> iz, yeah that's not what that says
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:26:47] <steve_bobs> pretty sure
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:26:50] <steve_bobs> that's an api key
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:26:53] <steve_bobs> not a password
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:43:48] <steve_bobs> helo, it's actually impossible
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:44:19] <steve_bobs> the risk to the insurer would be so high that they would never accept the contract
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:44:21] <kiba> steve_bobs: why would it be impossible? you know something that I don't?
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[13:45:11] <steve_bobs> if your premiums would be more than about 5% annually of the maximum liability of the insurance typically they will simply deny your application
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[14:38:21] <steve_bobs> ;;bc,blocks
#bitcoin_20120713.log:[18:39:59] <steve_bobs> HORRAY CHEAP OLIVE OIL
#bitcoin_20120714.log:[14:34:41] *** Quits: steve_bobs (~phantomci@c-67-188-9-35.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) (Remote host closed the connection)
#bitcoin-otc_20120712.log:[23:02:21] *** phantomcircuit is now known as steve_bobs
#bitcoin-otc_20120714.log:[14:34:41] *** Quits: steve_bobs (~phantomci@c-67-188-9-35.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) (Remote host closed the connection)

So it would appear that not only did *someone* use the ident of phantomci, they did more than just a /nick on it.
I don't log -dev, #bitconica, or #intersango so there absence above means nothing.

EDIT: I have posted the output of $ grep phantomcircuit * | grep -E "(Joins|Quits)" to http://pastebin.com/7BtrXWjv for anyone who is interested.  The above IP (67-188-9-35) does indeed appear there quite a bit.  Seems very unlikely that more than one person closely related would use the same odd handle.
1024  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can I want my money back from SatoshiDICE? on: July 26, 2012, 07:15:53 PM
Can you tell if the bet the OP placed won? Can you tell whether the address it was sent from is one of these send-only Gox addresses? If the bet didn't win and it really did come from a Gox address, you're out no BTC and you know he wasn't trying to scam you, right?
Can you imagine the precedent this will set if they returned a losing bet?

In that case I think SD should return my 4 BTC bet as I was using a martingale and can prove so that it was a mistake I didn't double check my numbers.  (You can bet your ass if I had won on that bet I wouldn't have sent the balance to erik/SD as a donation).

dumb dumb dumb
1025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can I want my money back from SatoshiDICE? on: July 26, 2012, 07:11:27 PM
Cry

But I can't find any contact infomation of SatoshiDICE

Send Erik Voorhees a PM, I believe he operates SatoshiDice.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=12149

Thank you.  I have sended  him a message when I made the mistake, but he didn't reply.I will pm him again.

To unclemantis:

I play the DICE before, I when I withdraw from Mtgox ,I copy my address and it didn't success, so I past the address of DICE which I copy before. That is it.
I made a similar mistake recently with SD... I intended to be 0.4 BTC and bet 4.0 BTC (Of 5.5 I had just bought)

Guess what?  It lost.

I didn't go whining to erik because it was my mistake, I was bummed the rest of the night.  But at least it wasn't a larger amount.  It has made me much more vigilant and double check everything.  The only stupid mistakes are the ones you don't learn from.
1026  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Real Time Charting, Order Book, and Time & Sales on: July 26, 2012, 06:42:33 PM
See the image below.  The blue (new?) orders appear to 'hang' and not go away. They are also missing sums.
And yes this is *without* my GM script, plain vanilla FF with GM 100% disabled.
It looks like it is not triggering any window timeouts for the order book. Very odd. I have never experienced that bug. What version of Firefox are you using?
14.0.1  OSX, I know that ken is on FF too, but don't know what version or OS.

Funny now that you mention it.... I did update FF a few days ago, but can not remember if they happened before or after that.
1027  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: July 26, 2012, 06:38:29 PM
Say I want to transfer funds from one address to another address in the same wallet.

2 questions

1. Do the miner/blockchain.info fee still apply?

2. If (1) is true then is there a way to specify which address to take the fee out of?

Example.

Label 1 has 1 BTC

Label 2 has 0 BTC

I want to take 1 BTC and send it from Label 1 to Label 2. Now apparently if question 1 is in effect this is not going to happen.

Yes miners fee will apply because you have to push the TX to the blockchain.
If you do an advanced send then you can specify which address will be the 'sending' address (and therefor where the fee will be taken from).
1028  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Real Time Charting, Order Book, and Time & Sales on: July 26, 2012, 06:35:37 PM
Unfortunately, the order book is kinda bugged right now and the red/blue/green orders won't disappear.

I'm going to need more explanation on the exact nature of this bug.

You can visit http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/widget/chart/ so see M15 and D1 candles in the full browser window.
NICE!  I didn't know about this, thanks!
1029  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 26, 2012, 06:24:45 PM
For the official record I have deposited and withdrawn funds from Bitcoinmax without incident.

Interest was always paid on my loans on time and at the agreed rate.
1030  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 26, 2012, 01:50:38 PM
this is the real change:

""<- you may need to click the "check for new (confirmed) deposits" link in the account-history page.""

no more having to log out and back in again to check for new transactions.
Aw... I saw that and misinterpreted the *may* as optional.
1031  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 26, 2012, 11:55:44 AM
Half hour interest instead on an hour.

What do I win Bob?
1032  Economy / Goods / Re: Windows 7 Professional 32bit OEM DVDs - UNOPENED 10 btc OBO on: July 26, 2012, 04:00:42 AM
They were purchased from either newegg or amazon. My boss overbought and so i figured id try selling them here.
In at light I would say that people would probably be ok getting them, you have addressed my concerns.
1033  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Casascius Roll-Your-Own Physical Bitcoins: Only 0.13 BTC on: July 26, 2012, 03:56:20 AM
Your coins are not fire proof

Neither are dollar bills.
Most coinage would melt under a normal house fire anyway.
1034  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 26, 2012, 03:35:58 AM
Likewise....  I was not complaining at all.  Your service is second to none payb.tc!
1035  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Get PAID to buy bitcoins with cash (USA) on: July 26, 2012, 01:43:45 AM
Any news on a possible ETA or other bank possibilities?
1036  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Get PAID to buy bitcoins with cash (USA) on: July 25, 2012, 07:35:23 PM
Apparently there are a few states that have 0 Chase banks.
Like mine.
1037  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit on: July 25, 2012, 07:04:19 PM
That is a good site.

I am on 'one of the leopards' on my Mac laptop - cannot remember which.
MultiBit just needs Java 6 or higher but can anyone definitely confirm it works on Lion and Mountain Lion ?
I will then add it in.
I works on Lion for sure.  I am waiting a few days to update to Mt. Lion.
1038  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Paying 6.9% per week... Small accounts welcome. on: July 25, 2012, 06:23:38 PM
As pirate has opened new account applications to be without a referral now in preparation for next month's changes the OP here could be updated:

Q. Can you give me a referral to BST?
A. No, I'm not offering referrals at all. You can PM pirate for an account now without referral, see his threads.

Q. Can you give me a referral to BST if I pay you XXX.YY btc?
A. Thanks for the offers, but please see the previous question.

I made a small withdrawal request earlier today, if you're waiting for a deposit to match it against that's np.

Just as an idea, you could always implement 2 options for withdrawals, say an ASAP option that costs a 0.1% fee if it's sent within an hour & a free of charge  'I'm not in a hurry option' that may take up to 24 hours & basically waits for a matching deposit/s to come in to Bitcoin Max.
I am also waiting on a withdrawal, my guess is that payb.tc is busy.
1039  Economy / Goods / Re: Windows 7 Professional 32bit OEM DVDs - UNOPENED 10 btc OBO on: July 25, 2012, 06:13:10 PM
the 32 bit part is a real buzzkill. you won't find many buyers who will sacrifice their > 4GB ram just to save some money.

I believe the serial will work with a 64-bit copy. Just download the trial from ms and use it to activate.
That is incorrect, OEM keys will only activate OEM media, not retail.
1040  Economy / Goods / Re: Windows 7 Professional 32bit OEM DVDs - UNOPENED 10 btc OBO on: July 25, 2012, 12:46:38 PM
Exactly where did you get these?

I ask because OEM discs from the major manufactures must be used with those devices, so potentially you are selling very expensive coasters.
