1201  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit on: July 01, 2012, 05:48:39 PM
Some results from the simple cache strategy of storing the blocks as they come from the network to disk.

Size for cache (up to block 187,062) = 2.54 GB

Some stats on how long it takes to replay all the blocks from the genesis block (hooked up to half a dozen wallets):

Code:
18:01:48.319 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - Replaying a stack of 187062 from the block cache.
18:02:30.410 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 180000
18:03:32.419 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 170000
18:04:44.286 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 160000
18:05:50.056 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 150000
18:06:52.448 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 140000
18:07:54.979 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 130000
18:08:56.652 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 120000
18:09:53.437 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 110000
18:10:47.646 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 100000
18:11:45.749 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 90000
18:12:49.316 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 80000
18:13:54.300 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 70000
18:15:01.551 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 60000
18:16:33.927 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 50000
18:17:59.623 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 40000
18:19:23.757 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 30000
18:20:52.436 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 20000
18:22:20.458 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 10000
18:24:44.032 DEBUG org.multibit.network.CacheManager - The remaining block stack is of size 0

So that is about 23 minutes for (re)processing all the transactions in the first 187062 blocks.

I am not sure that the overall data structure is the one to go for, but it certainly saves on bandwidth and speeds up replays and imports.

I love it, keep up the good work Jim!

Hey ridgemont4, if you believe god has a plan for you, why do you look both ways before crossing the street?

Revelation 12:12 "Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."

So, does that mean you look both ways because you believe the truck that could hit you is more powerful than your god?

you know, if someone really wanted to have multiple machines, they could simply make their machines connect to gpumax via a single VPN. just sayin.

That isn't so much the problem as pass-throughs.  Someone selling a passthough is much less likley to allow someone on their vpn

How about a setting in my profile so that I can have the client record (log) my play.  e..g, to later get a list of all hashes and secrets.

Just from knowing the speed of hands that the player is going at it becomes pretty easy to tell if the player is looking at the verification.  Of course, the odds are that 99.998% of us won't be verifying.   But if the client might be logging each play, for verification after the fact, then there's no way to tell which players might be scrutinizing the results.  Which keeps everyone honest.

I was thinking this would be the perfect use-case for a greasemonkey script. Because honestly, even if we allow you to log the hands client-side, you still have to trust that the javascript we're serving you isn't corrupted.

If anyone wants to build such a script, I'd be happy to help support it!

I think this would make a great browser extension too, blockchain.info does this to make sure nothing has injected javascript.

The bitZino verifier.

Actually this opens up a whole world of hand analysis / logging plugins too.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Love this...

Lulz..... I must admit ridgemont.... I think you are changing my mind.... I might be starting to believe in god, I was bored this morning and the more I read your posts, the more I am not (bored).  I think god sent you to entertain me.

I just ran across this one, from another thread, that truly tells you are not afraid of talking about a subject when you obviously know nothing about it (not that we needed any proof).
The biggest threat to Bitcoin is its very own creator, who is so much of a coward, he must remain anonymous. For all we know, he could be a United States government insider, hired to create this as some sort of "one world government" experiment. In that case I better be careful, because that's a very powerful group who knows what they're doing. I might be followed by mysterious characters after this post and may end up missing soon.

OK... you may now resume your regularly scheduled trolling....

now it makes it all clear, "true Christians" don't go to church on sundays
No they are too busy bombing people that don't believe the same or raping kids.....  Just not enough hours in the day.

yeah too busy bombing.. right.. as if there are no Christians in Iraq, or other places that are being bombed. Face it, Christianity is everywhere. You just look at the ones who are doing bad to justify your hatefulness.

I have several responses:

1. I didn't say that only christians could bomb, they don't hold the exclusive right
2. I don't support the bombinb of Iraq either
3. Believe me I understand that it is everywhere....  People can claim they are christtians all over the place and it is OK, but if someone says anything along the lines of "Ya, me not so much" then they get chastized; "Y U NO BELIVE IN CHRIST?"  Disgusting

If you follow God, you are keeping the commandment, to love Him and serve Him with all your strength.
Will all your free-will right?

Why do fake Christians set aside Sunday? because people like you need something to mock at? Perhaps that's really it.
Honestly I don't need any more ammunition, I really don't.

And just to troll:
Why do fake Christians set aside Sunday?
Perhaps a distinction without a difference?
1210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much book keeping do you guys do? on: July 01, 2012, 02:06:34 PM
I am just curious as to how much book keeping everyone else does?

For me personality since I do re-use alot of my address like a lot of people on here probably do, I have been keeping an excel spreadsheet with 5 columns. First is the Payee/payer if I do have a name. Second column is their address(es) from where the bitcoins were sent or received. Third column is like a memo and 4th is the transaction id. The last column is amount if negative I know I sent it and if positive I know I have received it.

Hello gweedo,

Yes, record keeping is a major PITA especially if multiple addresses are involved. I use spreadsheets to keep track using almost the same setup as you.
I have been looking into pywallet, coin control, alternative clients, etc in hopes that they could help with recordkeeping.

It would be nice if an app existed where all I had to do was enter the address(es) and all the transactions were presented nicely, without requiring private keys. Maybe it already exists but I haven't found it yet.

A blockchain.info wallet does this, they are called watch addresses.

Also it let's you spend if you want, it will prompt you for the private key, sign the tx, then destroy its copy.
1211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6.66 Mark of the Beast!! ZOMG!!! on: July 01, 2012, 01:57:25 PM
Why don't you make up your own mind? You're a big kid now. Aren't you old enough to think for yourself and make your own judgement?
Nope, that is why I go to church on Sundays, so I don't have to think for myself.

Being a responsible human and doin the right thing is hard, forealz, it is solo much easier to do what others tell me, then I don't have any responsibility!
1212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6.66 Mark of the Beast!! ZOMG!!! on: July 01, 2012, 01:48:23 PM
ridgemont: nobody wants you here. Why are you still here?

WRONG!  The epicness of this thread shall never die.

Got forth my son (ridgmont) and troll and provide entertainment to the interwebz for the interwebz have seen too many cats and need you my son.

To others: is it trolling if he actually believes it?

Pirate, your avatar turned 45 degrees counter-clockwise this week. Is this some kind of countdown and when we see your back we know you sailed north with all our coins? Wink

You WIN!.

I was waiting for the first person to notice.

50 BTC have been added to your account.

Enjoy,

That was a bit... random.

"Hey, guys! I have so many spare Bitcoins that I'll toss 50 to the lucky winner of the secret-whats-different-about-my-avatar-contest!" Tongue

Jelly?

Yeah - this is a known issue. It's due to the way that jQueryUI interacts with jQuery itself in certain situations. I'm exploring using CSS3 3D animations to make the reveal much more slick - similar to the technique here: http://thewebrocks.com/demos/browsermemory/

That is pretty slick, however FYI: it doesn't work on my iPhone, but DOES on my iPad.  Wonder if it could be a size issue.
1215  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - HTML5 Bitcoin Casino - Provably Fair on: July 01, 2012, 12:53:09 AM
It's kind of traditional to use a different bitcoin address for each transaction.  I've deposited twice and been given the same address to deposit to both times.

I don't care, personally, but maybe some clients would.

Personally I prefer one address for my address book. However having a new address button woul be nice, I think GLBSE does this.
1216  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - HTML5 Bitcoin Casino - Provably Fair on: June 30, 2012, 03:25:28 PM
Took a look at this last, on my iPad. I lOve it!  And I am not really a BJ person, great job!

Can I ask what libraries you are using, or did you write an entire HTML5/canvas graphics engine yourself?

I just wish you would open an account at US Bank, I have no Chase banks in my state even   Angry

I do have a US Bank right across the street from my office though.  For small purchases it is easier to WU money to people in -OTC and pay the ~%8 fee, just for convenience.

1218  Other / Off-topic / Re: FBI credit card data sting snares 24 worldwide on FBI-run online forum (lulz) on: June 29, 2012, 01:55:49 PM
Entrapment generally only applies if they are getting you to do something you wouldn't/don't normally do.

Yeah buying 50,000 credit card numbers from the FBI (or from anyone) is a very stupid thing to do, but I wonder if it really worth 40 years in jail.

They seem to strongly protect their monetary system. What is the number of years in jail for killing an FBI officer? Is it at least 40 years? I wonder what the judicial system values the most.

From what I have seen in the news it is no where what a child rapist gets.
1219  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: June 28, 2012, 09:25:29 PM
I also run most of my miner from a separate location with one rig at home, using 2 different IP's  Undecided

If I'm reading Pirate's message correctly, it says 2 or more IPs. So you should have concern with >2 IPs.

You are not reading it correctly:

Any account with miners connected on 2 or more IP addresses from different subnets.

2 or more = greater than or equal to 2.

Assuming they are on differing subnets that is.
1220  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - Verified rolls, up to 64,000x winning on: June 28, 2012, 07:47:12 PM
Stupid tax?

Drunk betting?  (new term == DrunkDice?)

I guess you could argue that all negative-sum gambling is a stupid tax, but these progressive bets certainly seem to be.

The 1-in-4096 bets are terrible value.

Currently the 'Teh Beast' has 21.70 BTC in the pot, costs 0.25 BTC per bet, and pays out about 1 in 4096 bets.  So I have a 1 in 4096 chance of multiplying my money by 86.8.  That's a 97.88% house edge.

I do not know, but I am taking an educated guess, that is still better odds of winning a progressive in vegas.  HOWEVER: in vegas I can win on the machine without winning the progressive.
