Oh good. For a second I thought your account was hacked.
1502  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 7BTC with Paypal -- $5.60/BTC on: May 29, 2012, 08:32:57 PM
Transaction complete. Thanks!
1503  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB 7BTC with Paypal -- $5.60/BTC on: May 29, 2012, 08:18:51 PM
Deal, if you go first. (Yeah, yeah, I know. But I have a large established reputation. I don't even let most people buy from me...)
1504  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Diablo 3 Accounts on: May 29, 2012, 07:58:57 AM
As a Blizzard MVP, let me remind everyone that there is literally no safe way to do this. That's besides the fact that the accounts were most likely hacked into in the first place.

markyz, if you still have your receipt, you can call Billing and get a full refund on the game within 30 days of purchase, no matter where you got it from.
1505  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 29, 2012, 07:55:41 AM
I was deliberately vague. It isn't which payment system to use, but which method of selecting payees (people to be paid) to ensure accurate or fast delivery (it is a bit of a sliding scale). Maybe I can post more specifics, but I want to ask first in case I somehow jeopardise the prospect of a speedy recovery for everyone. Also I'd want to make sure what I write is correct.

Why not just start paying out the claims that are most certain and gradually work towards those that are harder to verify? I'd feel happier if I knew some people were getting their USD and/or BTC returned, would be nice to see a bit of movement happening, I think people would be a bit more relaxed if the queue was moving.

+1, it would be nice to see a little bit more transparency for the payout process. I also would like to know the liquidation price for the long and short position and the policy for the interest swap.

Zhou stated before that positions will be liquidated at 4.94 / 4.98. Not sure if that was an official statement though.
It was not. It's likely, though, with how stable we've been that the positions will be liquidated at about 4.94 / 5.15. But we'll see.
1506  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying 20 BTC via Paypal - $5.30/BTC on: May 28, 2012, 07:47:55 PM
I highly suggest just making up some other note. More creative reasons I've seen are "Thanks for the help on implementing a payment system into my website!"
1507  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 28, 2012, 07:44:44 PM
You don't have to pay back everything at once. If you are fairly certain of a lower range of what could have been in everybody's accounts, pay that out ASAP, and figure out the more fine-grained details later.
1508  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm missing also some standard way for protocol proposals on: May 28, 2012, 07:23:24 PM
We thought the exact same thing one year ago. That's when we created the BIP process:

1509  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Might be Buying ~2000btc on: May 27, 2012, 10:09:01 PM
Dwolla isn't going to work if you're in Australia. With ~$10,000 AUD, your best bet would be a wire transfer to one of the exchanges. I don't know how well MtGox would work with that, so I'd suggest something else.
1510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 27, 2012, 07:01:55 AM
Is this relative/relevant?

http://boingboing.net/2011/06/08/ocean-bank-lost-3000.html
Quote
Ocean Bank, which allowed hackers to withdraw more than $300,000 from a customer's account, won't have to cover the loss. A Maine judge said its account security was "not optimal," but ultimately ruled for it because hackers obtained account credentials using malicious software installed on the customer's computers. Ocean asserted that its due diligence was covered by verifying a password.
Not at all. This is not a case where just a customer's account was hacked.
I guess this would be a perfect time to ask the operators of every single Bitcoin exchange if they have a backup of their database. Each and every one of them should go on record stating that they do. I suggest that this should be done within the next 48 hours. Any exchange that does not go on record in stating that they do within this time frame, users of those exchanges should immediately remove their funds from those exchanges.

~Bruno~
We're not an exchange, but I'll go on record as saying that Bitcointalk.org has daily backups mirrored to at least 2 different locations other than the datacenter that we're hosted at. This is in addition to industry standard backup and recovery solutions deployed onsite.

Yes, believe it or not, but your posts and PMs on this forum are actually better preserved than your current balance at Bitcoinica.

In fact, I'll go one further with my posting. bulanula has the unaltered version of the below message. Replace the X with the Bitcoin address:

1512  Local / Espaņol (Spanish) / Re: Necesitamos un moderador! on: May 26, 2012, 10:15:51 PM
(sorry for my English, but I don't know Spanish and I don't want to sound strange with a translator since I know many of you know English anyway)

The Global Moderation team will always handle reports of spam when we get them, no matter where they come from. This recent spam, however, came during when we were all asleep. That being said, theymos is always happy to add more local moderators with the community's consensus, or upon the request of another local moderator. Good job, paraipan!
1513  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can you change your username here? on: May 26, 2012, 09:53:08 PM
I could swear that donators are able to change the display name themselves under Account Related Settings... But, I don't know. We might have changed that.

No matter what, theymos is always happy to accept display name changes for donators.
1514  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: (GLBSE) TYGRR.BOND-A 1MHS PPS perpetual bonds. on: May 26, 2012, 07:00:49 AM
Assuming that the dividend was paid by the time you posted this...
Honestly I do think think it has been 48 hours and your dividends have been paid. I am okay to keep the plan as it is, but if people would like we can try to standardize the payout time.

Thanks.
...only 33.88 hours had elapsed from that last difficulty change at Block 181440.

Note: A complaint that Goat isn't buying back bonds upon request has been moved here:

Please consider reading the above thread before investing.
Sorry Goat, but it wouldn't be fair to the investors if I didn't add this disclaimer

1517  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Escrow arbiter needed - who is most trusted financial person on this forum? on: May 25, 2012, 08:26:18 PM
Theymos.
Agreed on this. He currently holds 2200 BTC for the forum and also has the Bitcoin alert key. The only problem would be convincing him to do this.
1518  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trying to contact theymos on: May 25, 2012, 07:46:54 PM
You're now whitelisted. Feel free to post there.
1519  Economy / Speculation / Re: When I get my Bitcoinica money back I'm.... on: May 25, 2012, 06:20:46 PM
Buying or Selling?

I just realized I can't post a poll in here for some reason...
There's a different link to make a thread with a poll than there is to make a thread. Poll added.

I'm personally not going to do anything when I get it back, since I still consider it part of my current position.

Well, at least that better than when we had a bunch of people saying
