801  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap way to deposit money at MtGox on: February 05, 2013, 12:42:15 AM
If you want it fast and relatively cheap (compared to wire transfers), use BitInstant. If you will be here long enough that you'll be opening a bank account, you'll want to use Dwolla (setup and initial deposit takes a few weeks, but at $0.25 per transfer, it can't be beat for getting money to MtGox).

So, jasinlee, where is the money?
803  Other / Meta / Re: Please require mod approval (not just VIP) for Important Announcements on: January 24, 2013, 07:28:49 PM
I tend to agree. Allowing VIPs to post there was a good experiment, but it failed miserably.
804  Other / Meta / Re: Long words in SMF should use <wbr> on: January 24, 2013, 04:40:20 PM
However, it's a bitch and a half when the browser doesn't recognize it, because instead of having to find and delete a space when you copy text, you have to find and delete a character that you can't even see.
805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC Futures Contract on: January 24, 2013, 04:20:22 PM
Contract locked in with 420.

See here: http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,1098.msg6086.html#msg6086

I will buy 10k LTC from user 420 for $700 on January 1st, 2014.

oh this will be fun.............

wonder why I didn't negotiate a higher price....
Quoting as evidence that the 420 here is acknowledging the deal.

Also, as far as a scam investigation, Greedi shall take the lead investigative role here as well. If either side has a complaint, go through him first.

Quote from: Greedi
Quote from: Smoothie
Greedi can be a witness to this contract given he is admin on this site and I am a moderator.

Sure..

+ That I also would like to stand in for Smoothie as NOT being a scammer.. We are talking sometimes over skype etc, so Yes, I know him a bit better then just "my" moderator/slave

If you would like to appeal any action/decision Greedi makes, you can appeal to me if you would like it to not apply to this forum.

Greedi, if you would like any action to be taken here, please tell me what you would like along with a justification and any evidence you have.
806  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DEAL LOCKED IN WITH USER 420] LTC Futures Contract on: January 24, 2013, 04:09:11 PM
Context of the "I accept":

Quote from: 420
Quote from: Smoothie
I want a contract where I WILL buy 10,000 LTC at $0.07 on January 1st, 2014.

Any takers?

I accept

as long as u dont buy a bunch of ltc bringing the price to 0.07 now

Note that there was an edit to this post one minute before Smoothie acknowledged the deal, so the stipulation "as long as u dont buy a bunch of ltc bringing the price to 0.07 now" is questionable in terms of enforcement. Yes, I know it was a joke, but it was included in the acceptance so I need to acknowledge it anyway, in case it's a problem later.
807  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DEAL LOCKED IN WITH USER 420] LTC Futures Contract on: January 24, 2013, 04:04:06 PM
@420

http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,1098.msg6092.html#msg6092

Deal is locked. No changes shall be made unless we both agree.
Witnessed. Contents of that link at the time of this post are as follows:

I accept

deal. 10k LTC for $700 on January 1st, 2014.

Greedi will be the witness to this deal. He will be the one to make judgments on any scam accusations.
808  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Split BFL thread? on: January 22, 2013, 09:21:43 PM
Good on him if he'll ban for trolling.  Can you define "Good portion?"  Are we talking 51% or 99.9% or what?
No percentages are used. It's a matter of "do the contributions of this person outweigh their negative contributions?" Or rather, "does this person bring value to the forum". It's pretty much a judgement call.
809  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Split BFL thread? on: January 22, 2013, 06:25:34 AM
Theymos said he will not ban people for trolling, so a warning is completely meaningless.
He will if it makes up a good portion of a user's posts. Also, trolling is often off-topic, but that really depends on the post.

This. Absolutely this. I check the ASIC threads from time to time, but I can only do so much. Yet, I've still deleted hundreds of posts despite being limited to the global moderation rules. You guys don't even have that limitation since theymos has given the Mining board moderators autonomy! So, you need to either more actively moderate this board or you need to ask theymos for more moderators to be appointed. Anything else is just going to make things worse.

I've deleted many of posts too.  Many of them very quickly so perhaps they haven't been noticed— crap like bazarro porn mashups with pictures of the family members of asic people.  Some of that is now moved off the forum.  ... some people here should be ashamed of themselves.

You can start telling me what I _need_ to do when I get the authority to ban people and when the overall forum adopts a policy which is less all-is-fair. Until then, it's going to be horrible... and when I see a particularly bad example that I can fix easily I'll continue to do so.
And I'm glad that you do as much as you do. More and more, though, it's looking like there just isn't enough of you. I honestly think that there just aren't enough moderators here. Seriously, ask theymos to appoint some more people.

Also, you have the authority to warn people not to do things. I've found that to be very effective. If someone continues being clearly off-topic and/or trolling, feel free to put in a ban request.
811  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Split BFL thread? on: January 22, 2013, 02:03:06 AM
My main question is how you're going to stop the split from becoming just as out of control as the original.

812  Economy / Services / Re: Write a wikipedia article or/and make a youtube video for Tor site promotion on: January 22, 2013, 01:34:59 AM
*Write an objective Wikipedia article, length like the one about Silkroad but without all the references
asshole! stop using Wikipedia as a advertisement site.
Won't work, anyway. Wikipedia is *strict* about their notably rules. Unless you already have a ton of press coverage, don't even bother.

You'd be surprised. There's always a way around it.
No, there isn't. If you have any counter-examples, let me know so that I can file a deletion request.

815  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bet between Micon and mrb (are BFL ASICs real?) on: January 17, 2013, 08:42:45 PM
Yep I agree to at least a 10 BTC bet. I summarized our bet below (note the addition of "These 10 good standing forum members..."). Please quote my entire post to officially approve this version:

Quote
Statement

Butterfly Labs ASIC is real and will achieve 350+ Mhash/Joule by June 30, 2013

Details

At least one ASIC-based Butterfly Labs product will demonstrate 350 Mhash/Joule or more, at stock frequency/voltage, at room temperature, for a sustained period of time of at least 60 minutes, with appropriate current-measuring equipment on the device's power input(s). Power consumption shall be measured by adding up current from all the device's DC inputs (12V jack, USB cable, etc.) It will not be measured "at the wall". The purpose of this bet is to avoid wildly varying efficiencies of power adapters and computer hosts. This bet applies to all ASIC-based products that Butterfly Labs will deliver to the general public. This includes the "SuperComputer" family (Jalapeno, Single SC, Mini Rig SC), as well as possibly any unannounced product that the company will be shipping by June 30, 2013.

The legitimacy of the ASIC-based Butterfly Labs product(s) will be established as follow: the equipment must be reported to have been received by 10+ good standing forum members, of which:
- 3 must have each personally measured the Mhash/Joule of the devices
- the other 7 may not have necessarily measured the Mhash/Joule, but must have provided reports of having received working devices that seem to validate the existence and plausibility of the devices belonging to the above 3

These 10 good standing forum members do not necessarily need to report on the same product (eg. 10 Single SC). It may be a mix of products (eg. 6 reporting on Jalapeno units, plus 3 reporting on Single SC units).

Examples

This statement is true if, for example, the Single SC achieves 60 Ghash/s at 171 Watt or less (60000/171 = 351 Mhash/Joule) as measured with a clamp meter on its 12V DC input and 5V (USB) input.

This statement is false if all Butterfly Labs products fail to achieve 350 Mhash/Joule, or if Butterfly Labs fails to deliver any product at all.

Positions

Micon disagrees with the statement.
mrb agrees with the statement.

I agree to this wager.    In contact with the big C to figure out where to send coins and what cryptographic keys I need to save for myself / send to him.
Witnessed.

817  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Can Someone "Work Off" a Scammer Tag on: January 17, 2013, 07:39:22 PM
Yes. The scammer tag is removed once reparations are made, but AFAIK, there isn't some type of arbitrary time period. If a defaulter comes back with a plan and is trying to make amends, the scammer tag is not usually applied.
Yup. Not only that, but we will typically even provide people with the scammer tag who are trying to work it off with free escrow service. Of course, almost everything that comes in on the escrow and successfully released is directly used to pay their debt, so don't be going out of your way to become eligible for this free service...
818  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Standard Check Numbers (checksums for addresses) on: January 15, 2013, 09:39:18 PM
I often double/triple check addresses and I think what I'm asking for is just to give me piece of mind. I feel especially uneasy when sending an address via IRC, I think it would be nice to be able to do the following;

IRC Chatlog:

Me: Here's my address 31uEbMgunupShBVTewXjtqbBv5MndwfXhb

Other: check FF4857EB

Me: confirmed

This would give me confidence that the address that was enter into the wallet by the other person is indeed the address I wanted to send to them.
So, to simplify things even further...
IRC Chatlog, v2:

Me: Here's my address 31uEbMgunupShBVTewXjtqbBv5MndwfXhb

Other: check 31uEbMgunupShBVTewXjtqbBv5MndwfXhb

Me: *looks generally over the address, then specifically checks the last 4 characters* confirmed

That's all there is to this. Someone would have to specially go out of the way to bruteforce a typo that wouldn't be caught by doing this easy check.
819  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Payment Not Delivered by "R-" for Work Rendered on: January 15, 2013, 08:08:33 PM
With that kind of attitude you'd be lucky to get anything more back. R- has already defaulted on this, so it'd be to your benefit to just get as much out of this as you can. One idea of what you can do is to send him an offer that gives him until a set date to pay you back at a discount, but on the condition that if he fails to do so he'll owe you even more than he currently does.

Would asking for 20 BTC by Jan 31, 2013 to the address 13Yg8Xg7ZGWjArH3mXXhi9zE2Vt5JQfLBV be fine then?
Absolutely. R-, this is a limited-time 2.8 BTC discount, so I'd recommend accepting and paying it.
