29201  Other / Off-topic / Re: QR code reader on: October 01, 2012, 07:48:17 PM
yea thats the end result from looking at the examples and running them.

but vb.net doesnt like it. so im still searching for a more compatible source.

cheers though, ill keep that bookmarked as a back up and just API call the results into my vb program in worst case
29202  Other / Off-topic / QR code reader on: October 01, 2012, 05:46:14 AM
i have a VB.net program set up that has a fully working webcam viewer and a QR code reader.

it does it using some Dll's i found.

now my problem.... the dll for the QRCode reader is a irritating evaluation version which keeps changing the first character of the scanned qrcode to a number.. (which incriments slowly obviously as some form or time trial)

does anyone know of a open source .net method of reading QRCodes or has a non evaluation Dll for my vb.net program to reference.
29203  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: October 01, 2012, 01:55:19 AM
imagine a domino's pizza accepting bitcoin. what would stop strangers from handing over a note, but having the privkey set that as soon as they hand over the note, they dont just empty it before domino's gets to do it. or the domino's pizza employee emptying it then saying sorry boss the customer must have emptied it the second they handed it to us.

In a consumer-to-business scenario, the business scans the note with a handheld barcode scanner attached to the POS system, which sweeps the funds immediately.  The note is then thrown away.

The employee emptying the funds is no more likely than an employee accepting a $20 bill, putting it in the register, and then pretending it was a $10.  Both cases the customer would create a scene and the employee wouldn't get away with a habit of it for very long.  And ideally the POS is going to have a high-end barcode gun, so it would look out of the ordinary for an employee to be using his personal smartphone to be scanning banknotes.

understandable in that situation.. but thats more like a gift voucher situation of a one use note..

where as bank notes left in circulation would just be placed in the register and handed out to other customers or given out as wages. basically a non-single use note.. so is this idea / topic of thread technically a gift certificate/voucher/coupon.. a one use only thing.. or a bank note in the traditional sense of left in circulation..

again i dont feel this should be technically called a bank note. as its flawed for use in circulation.. but a bitcoin coupon/voucher/gift certificate for small denominations and a bond for large denominations. sounds a bit more accurate to the idea and use of the idea envisioned through this thread.

do i have this correct?
29204  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: October 01, 2012, 12:45:03 AM
employee bonus, ok i see the benefit, instead of having to ask them for addresses, u just hand them a envelope with a nice surprise inside without them knowing they were going to get something first.

more trusting transactions like business to individual has its positives as a gift voucher type thing, but what about the other way round.

imagine a domino's pizza accepting bitcoin. what would stop strangers from handing over a note, but having the privkey set that as soon as they hand over the note, they dont just empty it before domino's gets to do it. or the domino's pizza employee emptying it then saying sorry boss the customer must have emptied it the second they handed it to us.

im definetly liking the gift voucher/bond idea though. (use once)

just thinking about the normal 'bank note' trading and passing many hands while being in circulation..
maybe the OP shouldnt call them bank notes. but bitcoin vouchers for small denominations.. and bonds for larger denominations..

as bank notes are suppose to be handed around and stay in curculation and be guaranteed its value by a central party . EG a bank holding all the priv keys and a bank note just having the public keys to verify value.
29205  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: October 01, 2012, 12:08:03 AM
ill say it again.. has anyone actually found a useful reason to use bank notes for trading in real world.

knowing the security risks of the first person knowing the privkey before handing it over risks losses to the recipient.

on the other hand. bonds for inheritance/gifts to trusted friends/family would be a great thing.
29206  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: September 30, 2012, 04:35:19 AM
the flaw with 'bank notes' is they are one use only.

where as FIAT bank notes can be passed back and forth with a guarantee and no worrys about if it has value (EG it privkey hasnt copied / wallet hasnt been emptied)

for bank notes to actually be useful for more then single trades. a 'bank' would need to be set up holding the private keys and the bank notes just have public keys. so that ur just trading an ownership of address 1XXXXXXXXX knowing the person before you, you or the person after you cant empty the wallet at any time while still handing the note about, by just copying the key onto a scrap of paper.

where its only redeemable when 'cashed in' at the earlier said bank.

just like FIAT bank notes.. they are technically backed IOU's

on english bank notes it clearly states bank of england promises to pay the bearer the sum of X on demand.

so whoever holds the note is guaranteed to cash out that sum, or they can trade it on, and on and on to other people.

but thats when things start to become centralised...

so what are the preventative methods that EG person one prints the note. but also hand writes the privkey and then hands the note on.. tells that person to balance check it while standing next to them.. and as soon as person 2 walks away, person 1 empties it.. making that note useless?

single use trades for small amounts (bank notes) wont work well without a 'centralised' party guaranteeing the individuals trading between each other wont steal.

but the bearer bonds thing where you give them as a gift/inheritance to trusted parties ... now thats a better idea..
id accept a bitcoin bearer bond off of a relative anyday, but never a bitcoin bank note that has changed hands and been looked at by a dozen different people.
29207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I've just been robbed :-( on: September 30, 2012, 02:31:54 AM
theres no point in tracing the block chain.. u can try though im not stopping you.

i have just found when trying to use known deposit addresses from pirates BS&T and the addresses people that (early on before he went rogue) received the funds on..

he used the 1DKY address in the middle.. which is where from what has been recently confirmed as the silkroad address..

so most theifs and scum would simply deposit money into silkroad. and then withdraw it.. and due to the large volume in the mix what u get out is not the same 'taint' as what u put in.

alot of us thought this was pirates actual wallet.. but due to it know known as silk roads its harder to point down where those funds ended up due to the mixer.. and how much pirate actually hoarded.

i dont think silk road would want to reveal who owned the deposit/withdrawl address 1 hop either side of the 1DkyBEK address. so the OP of this thread will have a hard time too tracking the payments.

hopefully the IP address is not a tor node/proxy ..

sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

id definetly suggest to everyone to hand write their privkeys on paper. and cleanse their system if they are large holders.
29208  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Idea for Highly Secure Paper Wallet - Using Split Keys on: September 30, 2012, 02:01:38 AM
I have been playing with this all day. Very cool.

Question: Why hasn't anyone used this for Escrow? I bet there has to be a page on this somewhere

Example:
* Seller goes to Escrow-BTC.com and signs a message from address 1EwMryEWqFLrfyyK6gTz3HUwgmLsVTFuQr (proves he knows the private key, not on-line wallet)
* Escrow-BTC.com then generates a vanity address with that public key and sends Buyer a PrivkeyPart: 5KiThyF8KKXm51jRT99Yckn63hGXFsBjniQNdYqyqDvhSHvQmEB
* This produces a vanity address: 1ZZZZKnrZRAmCgfVtjpgzZc1f9SkfndF5, which buyer sends funds to.
* At this point, no one knows the Private Key to 1ZZZZKnrZRAmCgfVtjpgzZc1f9SkfndF5
* Seller has delivered package, buyer can release his PrivkeyPart to seller. Buyer can only not deliver funds out of spite.
* Seller combines his private key with buyer's PrivkeyPart:

Code:
keyconv -c 5KiThyF8KKXm51jRT99Yckn63hGXFsBjniQNdYqyqDvhSHvQmEB 5JuwtSBD2SbnZ8dWgtGiUsd5D14tC7UTvoDeqCsabS5f7KN326D
Address: 1ZZZZKnrZRAmCgfVtjpgzZc1f9SkfndF5
Privkey: 5JsNqVXDQstLEKPxCFMN4G4LerFg8AD2fmk8FHhEtRAheiKoeb6

And viola! The seller has access to funds.

paper wallet is the subject. nice idea's but people are still thinking that they need third party services and outsiders.. paper is all you need... oh and a pen. maybe a safety deposit box.

if its not on your computer (restore it) or never been given to any web service.. the only people that can take it. know where u live.
29209  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Idea for Highly Secure Paper Wallet - Using Split Keys on: September 30, 2012, 01:20:15 AM
your talking about making a website that takes some ones private key and then gives them some split up version of it.

why need a website.. just give people the sourcecode to do it themselves if you think its a great idea. its not complicated script and does not need web hosting to allow people to use your idea of extra security.

i think those that want the caution of needing a paper wallet wont put their private keys into someone elses website.

its much easier for a website to be compromised then some ones own PC would be, especially if they recovered it back to factory settings to avoid trojans etc first.

but the low tech method of printing out or even....
hand writing the code is even easier. saves ink and any 'print queue' trojans.(if u aint already restored PC)

the simple as pie method is trust no one but urself. if ur computer is compromised.. restore it.. no need for third party services websites.

the other idea about using the ECDSA calculator.. is other the top of noobs heads. and still requiring third party stuff..

PAPER WALLET .. again PAPER WALLET.. has no need to store on 2 computers.. thats a digital wallet your talking about.

just keep it on paper. laminate it cut it in half so the long code is in 2 pieces and useless on its own. and store in a separate location, in PAPER form
29210  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Idea for Highly Secure Paper Wallet on: September 29, 2012, 09:46:13 PM

if anyone truly wanted to split their priv key up.. think of the easy way...

1 x paper 1 x scissors = 2x paper

store each piece in separate places
This is idiotic. Why cut it up on paper if you already had the key on your compromised system. It would already have been captured and sent to someone. At that point you don't even need to bother printing it.

I guess people just aren't getting the whole point of what I wrote.  Tongue

compromised system??

lol maybe next time u should include the first part of my quote.. restore/recover system to factory settings.

but if u easily get a compromised system then ofcourse ur also gonna be deluded to trust typing your private key into some script kiddies website so they can do magical things to your private key.

simple fact about paper wallet is.. keep it on paper dont give it out to third party websites. and dont obtain it from third party websites either.

a paper wallet is just that. a paper wallet. anyone saying they are solving paper security by designing a website. has no idea what paper wallets are all about.

make it from ur own CLEAN system print it out and the only thing u have to worry about is someone in your real world life reading it. so cutting it in half and putting it in 2 locations will reduce that from happening.
29211  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Idea for Highly Secure Paper Wallet on: September 29, 2012, 04:21:56 PM
best bet is to not use third party services that offer you private keys..

although i have not heard anything bad about bitaddress.org or the other suggestions above. safest bet is to clean wipe /recover your computer to factory settings. use ur own client EG bitcoin D to give u a fresh address and privkey.. then write it down on a piece of paper laminate it and put it in a safety deposit box.

making websites that ask you to type in their priv keys, will make a few people think.. hmmm why would they ask.

if anyone truly wanted to split their priv key up.. think of the easy way...

1 x paper 1 x scissors = 2x paper

store each piece in separate places

i have not commented on this thread before as i think phinnaeus Gage is doxing the wrong guy.

do you agree Mr Petersen?
29213  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: exchanges requiring photo ID?? on: September 26, 2012, 10:29:23 PM
requiring ID is one step forward in the removal of illegal activities and trying to gain some positive legal trading. which i am all for, bitcoin has had too much bad press lately.

the reason im for it: real world businesses wont adopt bitcoin as a payment method due to the bad press and ease of losing funds via illegitimate trades.

what should be done to get better press is have a service that you sign upto, give all of your identity too. and your awarrded a 'verified user' tag.
the other services will just know you at sign up time as 'legally verified person'. it will only become known of ur true identity to that other service if a fraud has been commited.

how it would run:
much like how websites are starting to offer 'sign up using facebook'. where facebook gathers all ur personal stuff and the other services just grab what they need. in this case a simple 'verified user' tag and a username.

then even the BTC OTC can use this to verify users etc.

worth someone giving it a try

it might be worth it. cos businesses might pay the service a small fee for veryifing users on their bahalf.

P.S i do understand silk road users desire for complete anonymity. which is where non verify requiring sign ups can continue, with slightly higher fee's for trading to cover losses. but for legitimate trading a verifying service can also have its place, giving users a lower trading fee due to less risk of fraud.

i appreciate your answers hold merit, more so then INABA's but the reasons for asking questions has been missed. it might be better to just let INABA answer them.

Absolutely true. And again, underscores the point that who is the CEO, and where he resides, is pretty much irrelevant.
analogy
owning the pink slip to a car doesn't mean ur the main driver, nor does it mean no one else can drive it. take many teenagers for instance. their first car can be put in their parents name and have the kid as just a named extra.

BFL want people to think nasser owns the pink slip and does the day to day 'driving'. we want to know who is the driver so if theres ever a crash we know who is at the route of the problem.

so showing nasser is in paris, means he is not the driver.

but we want inaba to confirm or deny that.

Personally, I don't see any concerns regarding this business other than "Sonny has a shady history," and no assuagions other than "He's not a majority stakeholder, and is not in charge."

other 'assuagions' are that 'sonny is just one of the other 22 employee' brushing the issue off as if he only holds the title of a janitor or the delivery guy to the post office, nothing meaningful in the business.

lots of people are trying to get to the bottom of who's in the driving seat, not who's holds the title. By proving nasser is not doing the day to day business stuff, controlling the employees duties inhouse shows nasser is just a title holder.

i agree INABA should rise above some comments, but insulting his customers instead of answering questions is nothing to do with feeding trolls.. its to do with avoiding the truth..

but he can insult all he likes.. its not like 'franky1' is a legal entity that would care about libel accusations. its just a nickname. but by providing insults just ruins the credibility of his own nickname and known associations.

so lets leave INABA to answer the question
is nasser the ACTIVE CEO in control of the day-to-day runnings inhouse
29215  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 26, 2012, 08:40:08 PM

Who called it a scam? Link? Quote?

Noone did, but a lot of ppl think so.

The general sentiment in this thread was simply that of concern - customers and potential customers were raising perfectly reasonable questions about the nature of business and connections to documented criminal activities of at one of the players. Inaba and few other "defenders" responded rather emotionally, implying that some of these questions were actually direct and explicit accusations of a scam. Even if someone did hysterically make such accusations, I would hope Inaba would ignore them and remain focused on reasonable concerns, instead of using these accusations to derail and discredit this whole thread.

agreed. i personally had concerns and never outrightly shouted 'scam' my concerns were purely to do with the 'excuses' in their answers.
i did make one comment that their cryptic answers about saying everything made inhouse then next saying parts shipped in was similar.. but never an out right ccusation . well read it urself

INABA in the past said they produce the chips........... thats why i wanted him to say it again now everyone knows they are altera based.

secondly saying your a processor manufacturer.. is different to being a circuit designer.. ASUS, whom make motherboards do not claim to be CPU manufacturers..... same analogy goes for BFL.. so far we have seen them only make products using third party chips. i wanted INABA to confirm this. to counter his previous posts. or to uphold his position that they did indeed make the FPGA chip.

flame me all you like but making a sub $200 circit board using third party parts to gain trust, to then get the big money. is similar practice of many ponzi, pyramid and Pirate scams.

so as i have also pre-ordered. i am frustrated to see INABA say one thing, which contradicts what is found in the real world on websites and by actually finding out information.
EG sonny actually being a director and not just an employee of BFL

i have only posted 60 messages at this point so its easy to use your browser 'find' function to see a outright scam accusation. there isnt one.

we just find the misleading information given by BFL reps, which later you call tinfoil hat evidence very concerning once you try to back-track those statements.

but back to the topic.. whos in the driving seat of BFL not who has the 'pink slip'.
29216  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 26, 2012, 07:40:28 PM
Typically the President and/or managers run the day-to-day duties of companies, while CEOs are usually only in charge of making big decisions, and sometimes even work for multiple companies.
But, regardless, let's say Inaba answers that, no, Nasser is not "in-house," does live in Paris while communicating over Skype, and does not run day to day duties of the company. What would be your next question/statement? I'm curious as to where the "Aha!" comes in.

my 'ahai' moment comes at the same time you 'ahai' moment comes

I would like to know what specific functions Sonny carries out within BFL. Is he a director, president, owner, CEO, founder, employee, or a combination of some or all of the above? Also, what is the history of his involvement with BFL?

^ +1. Unlike the other stupid questions, this is really the only one that matters.

which still is not answered fully by BFL reps themselves.

i have kept my question ontopic trying to ascertain the role sonny plays as BFL reps state that nasser is in the driving seat and sonny is just another of the 22 employees. the quotes from myself to you Rassah were in a private message about the bigger picture of the last 9 months of BFL, sidelining the main question of this topic.

so lets just get to the route of this topic and leave other matters for other threads.
29217  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 26, 2012, 06:26:32 PM

i actually appreciate your reply on the matter, but id much rather have straight answers from the BFL rep's themselves, instead of us having to dig everything up.

i appreciate your replies, but want to here the same mature response and answers from the BFL reps themselves.

straight questions have been asked but no straight answers have been given.
treating sonny as just an employee with no major stake in the company sidelines the fact that although he is hiding who RUNS the company by having different names on the door.

EG
i can run a company and take a salary of $200,000 a year, do all the day to day business, but pay a handfull of people $10k a year to do 2 hours a week and give them the title of board of directors.

sonny is not just an employee who happen to come across BFL and hand in his CV to the established company. he was part of its inception.

so again i would like a BFL rep to confirm

is nasser the in house CEO that runs the day to day duties in the company??

<P.S inaba i know you can type fast to create your insulting waffle and avoid straight answers. but what is even faster is the straight answer. a paragraph of waffle insults takes longer to write then the straight forward answers. especially when you write pages of insulting paragraphs. 1 straight answer PLEASE!!. >

is nasser the in house CEO that runs the day to day duties in the company??
29218  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 26, 2012, 05:21:33 AM
without waffle i will counteract INABA's theory that i fabricated the evidence of BFL's address being an apartment block called chambers loft in that pastebin. heres my source

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=48863.msg597832#msg597832

crazy troll.. im only deemed crazy as INABA says my evidence is fiction.. shame its INABA's evidence.

i had high hopes for INABA's open-ness back at the start of august when he took the job. shame its resorted to insults with no substance from him.

now back to the question about nasser

Franky, your tinfoil hat shit wore thin about three weeks ago.  I'm just tired of your constant haranguing.  If you were ever able to provide any facts that wern't fabricated, we'd have had very different conversations... but you proved yourself to be far to disconnected from reality to engage in any sort of serious manner.

read your own comments from december 2011.. u even photographed the building.. so their your tin foil hat idea's..

so seriously about nasser... CEO - day to day running inside the BFL in the USA.. confirm or deny..

<waits for more waffle without straight answers...>

please once show some maturity and earn your wage being a spokesman for a shady company.. 1 straight answer..

does nasser do the day to day running of the company inhouse??

fact: http://www.facebook.com/nasser.ghoseiri nasser's facebook.

location paris.. and yes before u try to say thats not its the same nasser that works for BFL.. atleast look at the 'likes' page.. BFL FPGA..
