1241  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Shorting Bitcoins on: May 11, 2013, 03:11:27 PM
Hey guys, I am looking to get into short selling bitcoins. I figure I can make money on top of simply exchanging bitcoins (going long). I'm looking for some opinions from people that short sell bitcoins- what is the best place to do this?? I currently trade on btc-e. I prefer more volatile markets- more opportunities to earn (every "spike" is a profit if you buy and sell at each high and low). I've looked at campbx

Bitfinex would work for this.
1242  Economy / Economics / Re: Goal to shoot for: 7000 bitcoins if you want to get richer on: May 11, 2013, 02:57:55 PM

Quote
The richest 7% of American households--8 million with more than $836,000 in net worth--did quite well from 2009 to 2011.

Their average net worth rose from $2.5 million to $3.2 million, a 28% jump.

The other 93% of American households, meanwhile, lost out.

Their average net worth dropped from a measly $140,000 to $134,000.

At current bitcoin prices, if you have more than 7,000 BTC you are on the safe side of the economy. Your wealth will grow while others will fall. If you can get on this boat you should be able to ride the wave of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The folks in Washington will actually be working for you.

And these consumers (the lower 93%) provide the spending that drives most of the economy. (Rich folks actually don't spend that much as a percentage of the economy).

It also shows that the wealthy are saving (hoarding) while everyone else is doing all of the heavy lifting and spending all of their money. A good lesson on how to get (and stay) rich.

Personally, I would shoot for just over 800 BTC since eventually in the next few years it will be over $1000/BTC.

If you can get just 3 times that, or 21,000 BTC you will have 1/1000th of all the Bitcoins that will ever be created
1243  Economy / Economics / Re: Proof that Bitcoin is going to yield returns beyond my wildest hopes!!! on: May 11, 2013, 02:51:32 PM
I got this in my fortune cookie today!  I think it is a sign! Grin

I thought they all said that.
1244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 100,000 votes on Dropbox website and counting! bitcoin adoption imminent? on: May 11, 2013, 02:50:03 PM
Dropbox has this feature that lets you vote on their website for changes you want to see happen. Accepting bitcoin is about to make the all time most popular request page and already has 29,000 50,000 upvotes. Its worth mentioning that the other most popular request took 4 years to get there where as bitcoin has done it in less than a week (thanks reddit) Do you think it's likely dropbox adopts it (as theyve done to many popular request)? and if so, what do you think the effect on bitcoin price and economy will be?

EDIT: now 51,000
EDIT: now 100,000

I've not used dropbox, but will check it out.  Let's get them some more votes.
1245  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox makes more money the higher the price of bitcoin - conflict of interests? on: May 11, 2013, 02:45:16 PM
0.6% is a bit too high, would like to see something like 0.1% plus a small fixed fee(or better) sometime in the future.

Buy drugs?
lol, good one.
1247  Economy / Gambling / Re: Coinroll - Dice rolling game | Instant bets | Off-the-chain | 1% House edge on: May 11, 2013, 02:11:45 PM
Found this webpage after reading the prize thread.  Works well, house edge is really low almost half of other dice games.  After 1 confirmation my deposit showed up.  Rolls  and withdrawals are instant.
1248  Economy / Speculation / Re: You can now buy Gift Cards from Gyft with Bitcoin on: May 11, 2013, 01:37:28 PM
http://uptweet.com/viewStory?id=1253

Looks like there is now an easy way to pay for stuff with bitcoin no matter where you are. Sure, you're restricted to the stores Gyft supports, but chances are there would be a Burger King around somewhere if you're starving.

This, added to the Bitcoin Conference on the 17th and China getting into Bitcoin, all I can say is I can't wait until next week.

I saw this news also.  I think I will try this sometime.
1249  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 5 BTC giveaway! on: May 11, 2013, 01:10:26 PM
Coinroll.it is sponsoring a 5 BTC giveaway to lucky players.

All you have to do is play one game on our website - it can be as low as 0.00001 BTC. The amount of bets you make doesn't matter, and neither does the number that you rolled. What you need to do then is paste the bet ID of one of these bets as a reply to this thread.

The 3 winners will be chosen in 2 weeks using the following procedure:

We have chosen a random 12 digit hex ID in advance. The SHA256 hash of that string (plus extra padding to avoid brute forcing) is
Code:
f93e0d55b98e61dddfa4d3aae8204cfa727c909af15ef81ccdda9ac8313ceca4

The ID will be revealed in 2 weeks - the 21st of May.

The 3 winners are those with a bet ID which has the smallest modular distance to our random ID.

The modular distance is defined as
min((a - b) mod 248, (b - a) mod 248)
where a, b are 48bit integer representations of the hex IDs

Prize pool:
Winner: 3 BTC
2nd and 3rd: 1 BTC each

Winners will be asked to prove that they actually played the game by either signing a message from one of the originating addresses or performing an action on the website while logged in.

Why the modular distance? Why wouldn't a regular subtraction do?
If we used the absolute value of (a - b) instead then bets wouldn't have a uniform distribution of probability.

nice, here's mine:

1250  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitbattle.me - Instant bets, ZERO waiting! >140000 bets placed! NEW: Privacy! on: May 11, 2013, 01:07:16 PM
Ever consider having a deposit at the start of the battle so that there isn't a tx fee every time you bet? Would cut down on costs.

I was thinking of suggesting a way to allow users to gamble with their in session winnings, would have a similar effect.(less tx and faster)
1251  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Vircurex [VCX] - Going public on: May 11, 2013, 01:02:14 PM
It says on their website:

"The systems Vircurex.com and Cryptostocks.com have been taken offline over the weekend
Please do not deposit any further coins to your Vircurex accounts. We must assume that the wallet has been compromised."

Sucks for the people who bought this IPO (not that I think anyone actually did, but anyway).

To say the least.
1252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A new Catchy name for 0.0001 BTC? on: May 11, 2013, 01:00:10 PM
Anyway, I'd say 0.0001 BTC is called "a hundred microBit" or "point one milliBit".

In writing: 0.1 mBTC or 100 uBTC

I agree with this.  Keep it simple.
1253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did currency-hopping (partially) kill CHNCoin ? And LTC soon ? on: May 11, 2013, 12:57:05 PM
Too many trash coins, and pump and dumps is obvious.  Why would the average person care about CHNcoin and the other tag-along junk coins trying to ride the success of Litecoin, almost none of these alt-coins will achieve wide-spread adoption.
1254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predictions for the next bubble on: May 11, 2013, 12:52:40 PM
I wonder where the next peak will be.  $1000, $10000, $100000? Smiley

If it's anytime before the next reward halving, I couldn't see $10,000.  We would need some very strong news even to get near $1,000 right now, which is still a possibility.
1255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative Block Chains : be safe! on: May 11, 2013, 12:42:27 PM
A lot of these coins are just pump and dump.
1256  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is anyone buying call options? on: May 10, 2013, 10:06:27 PM
Looking to sell currently.
1257  Economy / Marketplace / Is anyone buying call options? on: May 10, 2013, 08:37:10 PM
I am wondering if anyone is buying call options?(write to purchase BTC at a certain price by a certain date)
1258  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: JunkCoin, the newest Litecoin-based alt coin has arrived! on: May 05, 2013, 01:30:34 AM
JunkCoin (JKC), the newest altcoin which is Litecoin-based has arrived!
Seems Legit

Do optioins actually work on this website?  I'm getting insufficient funds no matter how small of a contract I try to create, also noticed there's not much available for purchase.
1260  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Butterflylabs Huge SCAM on: April 29, 2013, 05:51:53 PM
Lol BFL is just recently delivering a few devices?  Bunch of failures, and IMO con artists.
