1281  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin sell-off may be due in large or small part to BTC-E scam and/or hacks on: April 12, 2013, 07:14:13 AM
Since there was no real proof of any btc-e account hack, i think that you are making panic. Any account compromentation because of user`s stupidness has no relation to exchange.

Wow dude, have you any clue at all?
1282  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin sell-off may be due in large or small part to BTC-E scam and/or hacks on: April 12, 2013, 06:51:17 AM
BTC-e accounts are getting hacked and/or the exchange operators themselves are stealing users coins.  This may be part of the reason for Bitcoin sell-off as the hackers would sell their coins.  It's impossible to determine exactly how many coins may have been stolen or how many accounts hacked at this time since BTC-e has not come out with any information.
1283  Economy / Service Discussion / Mt Gox - Completely and utterly incompetent or scamming/manipulating? on: April 12, 2013, 05:49:57 AM
Just a poll to see what the users here think.  Mt-gox is claiming hundreds of thousand of new accounts recently, rather hard to believe with the current market.
1284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you tell people who ask "how much bitcoin do you have?" on: April 07, 2013, 07:37:24 AM
I have never understood why people think it is such a taboo to talk about ones net worth or salary.
People might kill and/or rob you for your money if times are bad and you are not popular.

So it makes sense to be quiet about what you have at times.

People will beg you to give them money because they're poor and "you can afford it," or because their church needs renovations, or something else. Just kill me, take my money, and get it over with already.

Winning the lottery sounds great too until all those fourth uncles on your mothers side start crawling out of the woodwork looking for a handout.

Don't tell anyone what you have unless you're willing to hurt them to defend it. Money makes good people do dumb things.

Good people, no.  People who fooled you into thinking they were good.

1288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted wallet.dat, lost password, any solutions? on: March 31, 2013, 12:46:07 AM
What if i know most of the characters, which are either in the very beginning or in the middle, but missing 3-5 characters(certain letters, numbers, and symbols), that are mostly at the end but might have one or two at beginning?

Then you need something like this:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/ruby

middle = "password"           # The known part in the middle
min_left = 0                  # The minimum number of chars on the left
max_left = 2                  # The maximum number of chars on the left
max_total = 5                 # The max total unknowns
chars = 'abcd1234'.chars.to_a # Possible chars to choose from
#chars << '\\'                 # ... plus backslash
#chars << "'"                  # ... plus single quote

def test(phrase)
  print phrase, "\t"
  system("./bitcoind", "walletpassphrase", phrase, "20")
  case $?.exitstatus
  when 0
    puts "Found it! #{phrase}"
    exit 0
  when 127
    puts "bitcoind not found in current dir"
    exit 1
  when nil
    puts "Aborting"
    exit 1
  end
end

(1..max_total).each do |length|
  chars.repeated_permutation(length) do |str|
    max_offset = [max_left, length].min
    (min_left..max_offset).each do |offset|
      left = str.join[0,offset]
      right = str.join[offset,99] || ""
      test(left + middle + right)
    end
  end
end

Fill in the part you know for middle= and put in the characters you want to try in chars= .  If you want a backslash or single-quote then remove the # at the start of those lines.

Try to keep the chars list small. The time required increases very rapidly as you add more: 10 characters = 8 hours; 20 characters = 11 days; 30 characters = 3 months.

Thank you.

1290  Economy / Speculation / Re: Last week for BTC-50 Blocks...? on: September 18, 2012, 03:52:16 AM
If my calculations are correct, this should be the last week before block 200,000 is solved. That marks the 25-Block chain and I expect (hope?) two things to happen:

1. ASICs will start to float from anytime now (yes, I think they're ready and waiting just for that).
2. Exchange value of BTC-USD/EUR will go up.

What do you think?

1. not sure
2. Agree
1291  Economy / Gambling / Re: OFFICIAL | BC Casino Thread on: September 18, 2012, 02:23:31 AM
Does anyone else play this casino?  I've had poor experience.  Some trouble withdrawing, and more recently a large bet won, but didn't get paid, the bet just sat on the table instead.  I got a message from support saying the video feed just broke.
1292  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do you spend your hard earned bitcoins[btc] on? on: September 18, 2012, 02:20:00 AM
So what do you spend your hard earned BTC on?

Or do you hoard them hoping the exchange rate will go up?

Gambling with some.

1296  Other / Beginners & Help / BC-CASINO.com no withdrawals? on: September 14, 2012, 08:35:40 PM
Hello, I could not currently post in the official bc-casino thread.  This casino lets me deposit bitcoins, but I am currently unable to withdraw bitcoins after winning.

Edit:  This works now.  I think my browser was not compatible.
