What are the steps to buying NXT with BTC via the mgw?

Are they basically, deposit BTC, get mgwBTC tokens and sell those tokens for NXT?

Pretty much, though you need to setop the MGW first. But the website is doing a good job explaining that: multigateway.com

Even with unlimited money, you can't kill a casino that uses the kelly criterion. You can simulate that with computers. (Casinos without limits is a different story)

With unlimited money you can buy the casino and then still kill it! Grin

Haha. Thinking outside of the box.

Still martingale never works. Not even in theory.

It may not work in theory, but could work out in practice... Wink

What is that supposed to mean? Fact is that your expected value is negative, if you get lucky and make money with it in the short(or medium) term, that doesn't mean it worked..

Martingale never works.
You can get profit with martingale, only if you are lucky that day and don't experience a long enough losing streak. Smiley

Martingale is a gambling (trading) strategy. If it brings you profit, then it works, at least in practice. As simple as that... Roll Eyes

No, that maybe just semantics and you are no english native speaker, but for a "strategy" to work, the strategy needs to yield a positive expected value.

It doesn't matter whether I'm a native English speaker, there is virtually no trading strategy that guarantees you profit (those that do are usually not even worth looking at). The example you bring up is just a very specific case... Cool

Actually, you shouldn't talk about semantics, since I know that I use the word correctly Wink

So you are saying a strategy "works" even though you are guaranteed to lose money in the long run?

That is a very weird definition of "working".

Too bad that stunna also wants to go away from pay per post campaigns.

Sadly soon there will be no way to earn some extra bucks.

No, that maybe just semantics and you are no english native speaker, but for a "strategy" to work, the strategy needs to yield a positive expected value.

Look at arbitrage for example, you can prove mathematically that it yields a positive expected value. With martingale everyone who knows basic algebra can disprove it.

Yes, you can win with martingale but when you made some profit run, don't be greedy or you'll end losing.

You can win with every betting style, why do you need martingale for that?

trading in NXt mgwbtc works gooood!!  Grin  cheaper than exchanges!

Maybe for now, longterm the price will be a bit higher, because there are no trading fees.

Why is that?

Because people will rather deposit their BTC using the MGW and having their coins faster and safer. In addition to that they save the 0.2% trading fee + 0.5% cashout fee.

So now people have security advantages + 0.7% fee advantage. That is the amount that they will be willing to pay more.

In the end only the market will show how it reacts, but that is my thinking behind it.
389  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will my college dorm room be able to handle 3000W? on: August 12, 2014, 05:33:43 PM
u will burn the socket by using 3 kw.

No, it will only trip the breaker, unless the electrical wiring/equipment is defective or non-compliant, which is unlikely in a campus dorm.

Anyway, I think OP has got it by now, read above.

But he still hasn't realized exactely how much heat does things emmit. His room will be 10c hotter on average...

Banned for not noticing the "jokingly" in the thread's title.

Banned for having a senior account but behaving like a new member.

Banned for putting in a fake ICQ number.

Banned for having a smug face avatar.
391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: August 12, 2014, 05:31:38 PM
Still people try martingale constantly. I am watching primedice and dicebitco.in and people use the bots (or manually) and grind away martingale for 10000s of bets. I guess they like the fact that they constantly win money until the big bang.

Because of human psychology. Constant rewards release endorphines. Thus giving a positive feedback loop. Rinse repeat.
392  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 20ph increase in btc mining network on: August 12, 2014, 05:30:53 PM
It looks like longterm only the chip producers themselves will be able to mine profitably. Hopefully none of them gets an extreme advantage in technology, otherwise centralisation is inevitable.

394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: August 12, 2014, 05:23:59 PM
anyone know much about the security of the online stellar wallet system? does it use some sort of info to verify you other than login credentials? is there a way to enable 2FA?

No, there is no 2FA and if they don't want to centralize it, then there won't be a way to implement it!

Link? First time I hear about that.
