There is a really lovely competition among Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool respectively in the standings. Aston Villa are also trying to keep up with these four teams and they have done pretty good about that so far. Emery is managing Aston Villa really great and I don't actually remember him having a poor season with any team for a long time.
However they are having struggles in big away games so far. They actually beat Chelsea but Chelsea were having a really hard time back then. Liverpool and Newcastle destroyed Aston Villa. However if they keep up a consistent form in general -just as they are doing now- they can be competitive for top 5 at worst.
Aston Villa without doubt has been very impressive in the English Premier League since the start of the season but I don't see them as a serious contender for the league title and that's because of the quality of players in the club. Apart from the fact that they have a world class striker like Ollie Watkins who's been scoring goals for fun this season, they don't have the quality of players like the top four clubs in the league table to challenge for the league title. I agree that the decrease of Barcelona performance is caused by too many injured players. Some of them are the key players like Lewandowski, Kounde, Pedri, Frank de Jong, and Raphinha. However, some of them have recovered now, Lewandowski and Raphinha have played yesterday. But they need time to be back to their best shape. There was nothing wrong with Barcelona, Real Madrid outgrew them in the second half, that was what happened and they didn't retaliate quickly.
