is there anyway he can try to guess your password possibly using your name as some type of hint?

Depends on you're password. This isn't a very good technique. If you have you're username in you're password or anything mildly related you should change it because it's not a very strong password.
7862  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Hearty Mini Raffle! 1/100 tickets sold. Entry from 0.0005 to 0.002 BTC on: July 05, 2013, 11:36:52 AM
Is it that noone interested in rafles anymore, and everyone just wants stuff for free instead of 0.0005 BTC ?
Or is it that I don't have a hero status?
Or rules are unacceptable?

I welcome someone to comment on this.
Thank you.

It doesn't have any thing to do with you're status. You do have lack of trust which could be a issue. But, normally people don't like to do these things because they are so easy to fix. Normally, You would have to do a live draw from a random number generator so people can actually see what came out. 0.0005 might not seem much to risk. But, that could be worth quite a bit in the future. Who knows what is going to happen.

I wish you the best of luck.
7863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to save Bitcoin on: July 05, 2013, 11:33:37 AM
Stop panicking. It's happened before. As long as people don't stop using Bitcoin to buy goods/services or what ever then Bitcoin will still be valuable. Bitcoin will become more valuable if people keep using it and the number of Bitcoins left to mine become harder to get.
7864  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin ?! on: July 05, 2013, 11:31:35 AM
What do I think of Bitcoin? I think Bitcoin is a currency which has a very good chance in thriving throughout the world.

7868  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is it a total scam? The "5 Bitcoin Independence Day Raffle !" on: July 04, 2013, 08:55:09 PM
Yes the account Obama I believe was up for sale a few weeks back. A perfect chance for someone to pick up a ready made account. However, Obama claimed to have won and received the Bitcoin in the games & rounds thread. Obviously a sock puppet.

7869  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pishing scammer! legitnick! on: July 04, 2013, 08:51:18 PM
I always just in case it is legit. Even though I know how stupid it is. I knew it was going to end up like this. As soon as I saw the link I was like....not again. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same guy as last time. I would search the old thread which was so successful last time. I can't remember the name or the person who did it. I don't know if it got deleted either. Otherwise I would expect to see legitnick posted on there claiming he had received his Bitcoin.

This isn't the last time this is going to happen either. It's going to happened again and again. People will still fall for it. I have not fell for this or the last one. It's just stupid. You don't know the person. The person claimed no links would be involved and the Bitcoin would just be sent to you're address. Yet, he went against his word. That raises another flag. I know when people look at the message and think "OMG" and want to rush to receive their Bitcoins and that's when most people don't think about it just do it. Then say later how did I fall for that. Well, I hope in future people will not fall for this.
7870  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people trust in fiat money? on: July 04, 2013, 08:43:02 PM
I think the main reason for this is you can do a lot more with it. There is a very limited choice in buying property/land with Bitcoin. In fact no stores around me accept Bitcoin. Plus, the other issue is trust. The modern world is known for having trust issues. Where it's very hard to trade Bitcoin in person because most people are wary about identity it's very hard to exchange Bitcoin into goods/services. Most of the business done with Bitcoin is done behind you're computer screen with nothing to secure you're money.

Most major websites which most people trust do not accept Bitcoin. The ones that normally accept Bitcoin are small businesses which have just opened and have no reputation. Which raises a few red flags. Normally sites try to offer a escrow service, but I HAVE seen websites selling their own product with escrow enabled, but it's their own escrow which is very bad.

So I think the main problem with Bitcoin is the lack of goods/services to purchase. Even though to this day I have not exchanged ANY Bitcoin into USD/GBP etc.
7871  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sellers Unite - In USD we trust on: July 04, 2013, 08:31:04 PM
Interesting slogan!

This is actually a very good question: Why do people trust in USD, which is created out of nothing by the central bank?

Why do people trust in BTC, which is created out of nothing by some guy you never met on the interwebz Huh

Because Banks have been known to be steal? lol. People act like USD is the only currency and it's the best. Yet a few currencies are actually doing better than USD. I remember a few years back £1 = $6. Yeah, that was how strong the British pound was. However, it has slipped to £1 = 1.51 (Obviously this changes every day).

But, why do people trust any currency at all? I remember someones saying money was the best invention ever, I want to ask everyone who thinks this why? Is it really the "greatest" invention ever? It's a interesting question why people trust a online currency made by a person who we have no identity links to. But remember that Bitcoin is open sourced. We can see the code, we can see that you are in control of you're money. In banks do we get to go and see what our money is being used for? A few banks have gone under because they were stupid and used the money that the people put in for personal things. Of course they reward you with interest but that interest is so little it's more like *yawn*. But, it proved it recently, Cyprus taking 60% of everyone earnings.....that really did shock me. If I had £10 in the bank I would lose £6 that is crazy.

But, the question is. Why do we trust anything that isn't made by ourselves?
7872  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitCoin is NOT a Currency on: July 04, 2013, 08:14:40 PM
The value of Bitcoins doesn't make it a currency or not. If it's used to exchange goods/services etc then it's a currency. If it's worth $0.60 it's still a currency. If it rises by 100% then it's still a currency. As long as it's still being used to buy things. I think you need to look over the term "Currency".
7873  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Interested in starting mining on: July 04, 2013, 08:11:16 PM
Mining is becoming worthless, because of the amount of people in it. They have new technology which is killing mining. The difficulty is rather high at the moment. If you want to get into mining you need to folk out a lot of money. Which is a big risk, guess that's why it's called a investment. You need to weigh up the pros and cons. For example ordering from BFL (lol) you will have to wait months, I think the estimated delivery for new orders are 2014 which could be further delayed.

Weighing up electricity costs & the break even of you're money is a very difficult decision when it comes to buying and maintaining you're equipment.
7874  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] My tiny-ass gold and silver "collection" on: July 04, 2013, 08:05:00 PM
Noo! You opened it Sad. It's still worth a bit, but it's a shame that you opened it. My grandfather has a big collection, he used to go to auctions and try to snap them up cheap. I should go over there and note down the collection. However, it's pretty large.

I may be interested in buying soon, maybe a gift to my grand father.
7875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why Activity paused at 14 ? on: July 04, 2013, 08:02:34 PM
Another 2 weeks and you're activity should rise as long as you keep active (posting). It's to reduce spam.
7876  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: July 04, 2013, 08:01:18 PM
The only way it would reach that amount if people actually used it rather than just hoarding it. It's becoming more of a savings than a currency. Bitcoin was created to use as a currency. Yet people are just buying & holding. Will not budge. I respect the people who actually use it wherever they can. Obviously we are going to hold on to it, because it has the potential to become very valuable but not without us helping it. What would it be worth if everyone is just going to cash out? 0.
7877  Economy / Services / Re: 0.4 BTC / month free (Best payouts - NO POSTING NEEDED :) on: July 04, 2013, 07:57:42 PM
I'll be signing up within a few days after my current sigs expire. How many months are you planning on doing this?
7878  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is it a total scam? The "5 Bitcoin Independence Day Raffle !" on: July 04, 2013, 07:44:41 PM
Something like this happened before. But, a lot more people fell for it. I think the attacker got away with around 30 Bitcoins maybe more. It was valued at around $110-140 at the time, so it was a big blow.

After doing some research on legitnick, I realised that he has been pretty shady the last few posts he had made, to be honest I didn't really care about it, I knew it was a scam but couldn't call him out because it may of not of been.
7879  Other / Meta / Re: Forum is acting funny! on: July 04, 2013, 07:41:18 PM
I've been having trouble accessing a few parts of the site, however I can access other sites fine. It could be my connection because of the weather. I can't access any of my private messages. It happened earlier. I click to read when I see I have received a message and it returns a 404 error. Annoying. I know others are not having this problem so its got to be at my end. Stupid connection.
7880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: blockchain wallet backup on: July 04, 2013, 07:38:40 PM
You could use the email backup function. I would suggest using it on a personal email which isn't going to be spammed etc. Makes it easy to access. Only use a private email and not a public email of course. I would suggest deleting the email which you have received whilst storing the backup in a secure location just in case you're email is compromised. You could always use a fresh email which no one knows you own & exists.
