1301  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: October 27, 2011, 01:58:15 PM
If there is to be a breakout from the down trend it will be via a massive short squeeze, but this will not happen as long as people remember this thread.
1302  Economy / Speculation / Re: Breakout to the Upside Imminent on: October 27, 2011, 11:18:51 AM
New member signups on these forums have finally taken a decisive turn to the upside.  Yesterday there were 79, and today 82, and the day is not over yet.  82 would be the most since September 14th when there were 84 - nearly a month ago.

The numbers were up to over 100, but now are back down, no breakout for now I guess.
1303  Economy / Speculation / Re: European bank accounts of exchanges are frozen on: October 25, 2011, 06:32:36 AM

4. Bitcoin will be regulated and legal - SilkRoad closes - price goes down

Oh man yeah  Huh Huh Huh

and what if they make the drugs illegal too  Huh Huh Huh

what will you smoke before you post?

Is it not clear that SR doesn't care about 'regulations'? Am I on drugs?

Maybe not on drugs - but apparently rather frustrated.  What happened?

Anyway - just use your imagination.
1304  Economy / Speculation / European bank accounts of exchanges are frozen on: October 24, 2011, 11:23:49 AM
Link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49664.0

Possibilities:

1. Bitcoins become harder to buy - i.e. price goes up

2. Trust reduced - price goes down.

3. Bitcoin will be regulated and legal - more trust - price goes up

4. Bitcoin will be regulated and legal - SilkRoad closes - price goes down
1305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We're under attack on: October 24, 2011, 11:09:24 AM
- MTGox EUR and GBP accounts have been closed.
- Intersango GBP (our EUR account remains) was suddenly terminated overnight.
- TradeHill EUR bank account has been closed.
- ExchangeBitcoins closes suddenly (might be unrelated).

Yeah...

What was the reason quoted?
1306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robert Prechter calls Bitcoin "Brilliant" on: October 24, 2011, 09:55:53 AM
A propos Liberty Dollars - this has been discussed many times here - the language used by the prosecutor is crazy but NotHouse was exactly pure innocence.  He tried to pass his coins into circulation as a replacement for USD coins, they were similar but their face value was less then the value of the metal that they contained.
1307  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dropped below $3 on: October 24, 2011, 09:24:47 AM
The latest crash was on the 17th - that's right in the middle of the month.

It started dropping at the end of September.  It gradually went down.  It lasted longer than normal, but it still followed the pattern.

The last peak was at 20th of September - this is also more in the middle then at the end of that month.
1308  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dropped below $3 on: October 24, 2011, 08:50:46 AM
Lines on graph or it won't happen.

Since either July or August it crashes since the start of each month.  I made a thread about it speculating why and people were all no, you're wrong.  But it keeps doing that.  I much later made a thread going "how come people only hack sites at the start of the month when the price is bound to go down?" and nobody knew.

The other proofs I posted earlier in this thread.

The latest crash was on the 17th - that's right in the middle of the month.
1309  Economy / Speculation / Re: Accumulators all of the world - unite (???) on: October 23, 2011, 09:14:18 AM

I got to musing about things a bit while driving around today.  If one wishes to end the (proverbial) day sitting on a pile of a commodity, it seems that one has a lot more flexibility than someone who wants to maximize $$$ no matter whether they are short of long...even if one really believes that bacon will save the world, twenty truckloads of pork bellies rotting in one's back yard it not a very desirable outcome.  A bunch of representation in the block chain may or may not be desirable in the end, but it's worth a chance to me.

I wonder if it would not be possible for a small group of reasonably well capitalized people with a common end-goal to cooperate in order to achieve two things:

 - maximize their accumulation of BTC.

My approach to maximize my BTC holding is: selling at 16 and buying back when they are cheaper, but I am not sure that this is now.
1310  Economy / Speculation / Re: Denial on: October 23, 2011, 08:04:57 AM
Erm, a block chain that steals money from investors? I don't think your idea of a good system coincides with mine.

I didn't say it was a good system. I said I want one that is successful. Doesn't everyone who hates Bitcoin want a block chain with inflation? Isn't inflation theft from those holding the currency?
Actually there is inflation in Bitcoin already - maybe you mean that it is too small.  Anyway my contention has nothing to do with money supply but with the extravagant cost of maintaining the system, what I would like to see is a system that does not spend so much on electricity.  I don't think we can have a system like this before Bitcoin succeeds.
1311  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: October 22, 2011, 06:26:55 PM
just to reiterate and update Fridays action in the REAL economy of stocks, commods, and bonds which i'm sure most of you here don't follow as closely as i do:

1.  stocks rallied big and broke up and out of a bear flag and look to rally for months.
2.  US Treasury bonds continue to be sold off unleashing HUGES sums of USD's looking for a new home.
3.  commodities like oil, gold, silver, and miners took off as well.
4.  the USD took a big dump meaning leverage has returned to the markets in general.  IOW, speculators are borrowing or shorting USD's to bid up investments of all kinds.

what professionals call this is the return of RISK ON.  which means all speculative investments like Bitcoin go back on the table and are targets of speculative froth.  its not surprising to me that we're seeing this 50% rally right now.  it makes total sense.  if you believe in Bitcoin, you should buy it now b/c there are plenty of others right behind you.  and they don't just come from the smallish Bitcoin community that we have here and that most of you assume are the only players in this space.

that huge bid wall thats following the price up is REAL.

How long is this going to go on?  Do you believe in the European plan?  I am asking honestly - probably nobody believes the plan, but still the market rallies.
1312  Economy / Speculation / Re: What would happen if MtGox is replaced with something like on bitcoin7.com has? on: October 22, 2011, 09:54:59 AM
bitcoin7.com has just this little text that they've been hacked and are slowly returning coins and money back to people.

What if MtGox suddenly has that and it got hacked big and is shutting down.  What would happen to bitcoins?

Ha ha - don't pretend that you don't know the answer.  If that happens bitcoin will be screwed (not only because of the lost confidence, but also because then such a big part of bitcoins would belong to thieves), but MtGox is orders of magnitude bigger then bitcoin7 or mybitcoin or all the other sites, they are not anonymous, they have been checked with hacker attacks before and I believe they've learned their lesson.
1313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Denial on: October 22, 2011, 06:51:17 AM
An all time bear is as foolish and stupid as an all time bull.

Nagle is an all time bear.

Nagle explained that he is interested in alternatives.  Honestly I am too, but for different reasons.
1314  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone knows when google updates trends? on: October 19, 2011, 05:12:18 AM
Anyone know why its not updated?

Google stopped caring about bitcoins.

All trends now stop on 8th - it's not only bitcoins.
1315  Economy / Speculation / Re: Old Highs, New lows, what to make of all this action. on: October 18, 2011, 08:37:14 AM
It just seems unnaturally low here, like it's bound to go back up to $5.  It may take time for it to happen though.  It may fall more first, but it just seems so unnaturally low here.  I wish I wasn't broke or I'd buy a lot.

Yeh I second that. Id I had a few hundread spare id buy some up for sure.

It's a pity that only those that already used all of their USDs are now ready to buy.
1316  Economy / Speculation / Re: Exchanges shutting down on: October 18, 2011, 08:28:24 AM
MtGox has a trial in France - anyone can guess the costs?  The office in Shibuya must also cost a lot - this is I think the most expensive district in Tokyo.
1317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Great Bidwall on: October 18, 2011, 08:21:20 AM
It makes me nervous when I see a move like this - so I sold now (that little bit I bought yesterday).
1318  Economy / Speculation / Re: No rally? on: October 18, 2011, 05:14:56 AM
Rally is on Tuesdays.
1319  Economy / Speculation / Re: How low will bitcoin go? New Oct 17'th 11 on: October 17, 2011, 07:28:00 PM
We'll see.  I've bought a little.  If you have sold at 15 - then the current prices can make you feel like bitcoins are dirty cheap now - but it looks that the momentum is still down.
1320  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis on: October 17, 2011, 01:06:49 PM
That's a possibility. According to my lines, we overshot the channel 4x in May and by your logic perhaps we'll undershoot below by 1/4th. Your guess is as good as any, but certainly nominal values make no sense otherwise we'll undershoot deep into the negatives.

It was not *my logic*, I don't have any experience with this and I am trying to understand the arguments on both sides.

But back to the estimations - if that channel bottom was at $4 that means we can now expect $1 to be the real bottom.
