283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Regrets? Past BTC Sale(s that would look CRAZY Today! Poll. :( on: November 12, 2020, 11:58:33 PM

Here folk can put some 'modest' stories of ...what may have been very sensible...back in the day on a Bitcoin Purchase which is just 'crazy' today.

As an example, I sent Lightfoot, here on www.bitcointalk.org I think it was 1.5 to 2.5 Bitcoin to have some KNC Titan Scrypt Miner cube

boards repaired. Ack!

On the other hand, on the 'brief' time..I think it was 2015 and PayCoin was making it's POW mining 'set-up' for the coin to setup for POS coin network...

for 1 week to set it up as a 'supposed' POS coin (was a scam) ..I converted all that PayCoin to BTC and that was like 0.66 BTC as the last 'life' of my 2013 KNC Jupiter

Miner...which may have already been 'off' for a year..but they were doing this on a sha-256 blockchain ..so what the hell, I thought. Fire up the KNC Jupiter Toy! Smiley

So I have to keep the faith now in case in the next 3-4 years we again have another 10x repeat in value for Bitcoin! I need to 'accumulate' BTC Dust! Smiley

I have a 'mess' of dubious losses of BTC on dubious stuff. Post your 'regrets' here. Take the Poll. Smiley

Well, from what I can tell...if this is a 'big boy' data hall toy...and you are in China...at 2c to 4c kWh depending on the season....(and say you have the added advantage of being Bitmain and all this hitting your data halls for 3-4 months before everyone else. (whew!) Add to the fact that you can 'hot swap' our modules from 5nm down to 1nm as available...and I'd assume costs are cut by just this module swap...add to the fact you can be first in line for any 5nm to 4nm improvments on whatever algo/flavor crypto you want to put in this beast and indeed....a variety of crypto modules..say BTC at 4nm...eth at 5nm etc etc. Always having the 'cutting edge' of latest to pop in and or move at the same time ...rotating them through ..by the time the 5nm of whatever is no longer making you money at  your big boy data hall 2c kWh or whatever..you sell them to smaller minions ..in say 3-4 box racks...used...as you have made your $$$ and moved on. there is so much eff and ways to tweak such a setup with cheap electric if you are bitmain to your own uses...and mix match and get stuff like from 4nm online or lower faster...with this all in place it is 'dizzying' how much money they are gonna make.

But as to mid/size small data halls...er that boat has probably sailed by the end of 2021 with above enhancements assuming my guesses above have any validity (dubious..but still). indeed could be looking at a diff between CPU mining to ASIC mining ..skipping the step like GPU mining stage in between as a comparison of how this could blow the doors off for the big guys..

but don't worry...I 'forsee' that Bitmain will be MORE than happy to give you many 'cloud mining' options instead of all this pesky hardware that only big guys can afford. man...I got to admidt it .... Bitmain: (We Do Evil Well!) (tm Bitmain) Really does apply in this case....the setup seems clean to me and robust enough and expensive enough..that everyone will want to do it..but few will be able to afford such ..this is a ground floor build from the bottom data hall solution. but i you had big BTC/Crypto bucks..it makes as much sense if not more so than my first ASIC in 2013....

terrified pow wise but impressed!

the  best streak of above 12,584

was from 2017-12-06 to 2018-01-15  that was 41 days

so 19 down and 22 to go.

This will be a really nice streak to break.

If we stay hot we break the streak on Dec. 2, 2020

so 2020-12-02 here we come.

We also are developing a second streak Nov 1 on is above 13545

we have never had a full month from day one stay above 13000. I for one want to see both things happen.

er...makes my tummey hurt a little looking at above...either with danger/excitement or fear/dismay......hmmmm

well doom/or boom I'm in HODL mode..it is not like I can mine BTC out of the air anymore, where we are now in the world of pow mining

So went down to the local bitcoin ATM to pick up a thousand in either litecoin or bitcoin. First the owner changed and now it only does BTC. Second their fucking buy price was $14,600 and sell price of $18,500. Fuck you does not begin to describe my thoughts on this matter :-)

Maybe it's time to go get a real exchange account tied to a real bank and passport and a sample of my nutter butter. For a US cit, what's the valid options these days?

There is I assume, some kind of world wide branch of Bitcoin Kiosk outside of the local Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the local indoor mall. They have always bought like

$2k low and sold you 2k high BTC for years.

I assume the 'ratio' is the same because the last time I looked the price was around $12.5k and they would buy for $8.5k and sell for

$12.5k when I tried this back then.

Bitcoin was ...sheesh....$10.5k...I then realized (and now) that these kiosks are simply for the 'novelty' of getting Bitcoin...like in dust amounts ...just so

people could say they 'owned' some. No way, can they be getting legit money out of these things. Sad

Also, their verification sucked. I could NOT use them, because they require your cell phone number. I put in my working for years cell phone number, but

because it was a transfer from my original home phone land line of 30+ years before I got my cell phone 10 years ago...they said..sorry that is a land line.

Sheesh! Like I'm gonna haul my land line to the kiosk...anyway here is the ATM company that is this cluster.

So I put in $15,617.66 and it says it will pay me 0.8731964 Bitcoin. Or the cost would be $13,627.38 BTC for a fee of $1,989.28 Fee!

https://www.coincloudatm.com/ Looks like maybe yours is the same company maybe Coin Cloud ATM.

Anyway, that is a waste of time on so many levels. Feel free to check out the above with your purchase request as well.

Anwyay, I'd forgotten about this from 2 years ago or so....reminded me...may have even worse rates now than then on this current pump.

293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BTC PUMP, But Every other Coin Dumping!! on: November 06, 2020, 11:15:51 PM
See whats happening  on the market right now, btc and eth continue to soar as reverse to some altcoins. If bitcoin continue to pump then expect that some altcoins will also continue to go down too.
Bitcoin and ethereum have already dominated the market. The rally becomes more stronger in the top cryptocurrencies while others are slowly moving up. Other altcoins which don't have announcements or updates move down as expected. If the rally will continuously happen, expect a more bullish market.

So what is the consensus on this thread? Is this a product of 'speed' of price rise of Bitcoin and will Altcoins eventually catch up in price ..if not the same percentage as

say the Bitcoin price shooting up (it is Bitcoin by the by) ...but still enough to HODL sh*tcoins/altcoins rather than move them to BTC? Or is it that the speed of the BTC

rise and consquential pump of Bitcoin to cause a and current speedy  overcorrected "maybe' dump in altcoin prices..mean altcoins in the 'future' won't recover

significantly, in price? The great and 'lagging' usual 'altcoin/shitcoin to BTC price revival?

In other words, should I have sold my altcoins already and bought into the pump of Bitcoin and

now, and likely in the future the altcoins, in price and significance, will be left farther and farther behind, with Bitcoin pumping? ie boat missed will never catch up

with future BTC pumps by HODL'ing 'dubious' altcoins at this point in time? i.e. 2020?

I ask because in the past (when altcoins were proportionally much closer to price than Bitcoin like those 'ancient' days of the past of Jan 1st, 2020 and Bitcoin was

$7,234.47 as an example)

So to clear up my 'mess' of questions above, will, in folks opinon here mean that 'unless' Bitcoin goes down significant'y in price from $15k and/or sideways and/or has a

signficant dump on its way say...and I continue to HODL my altcoins for a pump..I should maybe just 'punt' and sell them instead?

Or will Bitcoin stabilize at whatever price $16k, $20k, $25k ...and then we will have the 'great' altcoin revival ..surpassing the % increase per altcoin price rise

vs Bitcoin % price rise instead?

The old 'saw' Bitcoin goes up 1/3rd and LTC and ETH double in price? I of cour Not that I think it will apply like that as some have done in the past?

I'm pretty much clueless if anything hangs together altcoin wise in this manner anymore in the screwy days of 2020! Smiley

Jump in here on which way the mop may flop above, if you are like me, sitting on your hands with some Altcoins you are wondering about cashing out of

and just going all in (or HODL) on Bitcoin only!

Video of a woman in Philadelphia filling in empty ballots.

This is very sad for everyone who loves democracy.

It is more likely this. See the video, below on why a ballot worker would be highlighting areas. It also would be damn dumb to do as you claim...with a mess of frigging

obvious cameras and security walking around the area as well. I don't have those kinda guts for prison time myself. So likely it was as the video below

states...filling in 'lightly' filled boxes that the laser counter of votes rejected on the first pass through, before they try it again. Smiley

So anyway...this video has been investigated...and found to be NOT fraud...here is the link below

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/pa-worker-filling-ballots/

anyway, don't slam me on this, just what the links told me as well, on what was going on with the above voter workers actions, on training and the actual

video posted as fraud above. (I have a 'feeling' as the messanger on this, I'm soon to be shot! Ack!) Smiley

Need to remind myself, I do not need a Lambo.

Just remember...there is a 'mysterious' never much mentioned 'magic' to Bitcoin...the more you have in HODL mode..the more 'lucky'  you are to the oppisite sex and any

friends or relations there of. I mean, why could that be?

As a further example of such 'wierdness' say you have 1,000 BTC and you went home with your 19 year old girlfriend (like everyone has at my age of 65 years) and meet

her father and asked for marriage. For some reason, when the 'retired in BTC/Crypto comes up' and also the 'topic' of marriage comes up...even the Father..seems to

regard you in more favor..then you would expect. All due to the 'mystery' of the 'obvious' and 'magical properties' of Bitcoin. It is a mystery indeed! Likely, never

to be solved in my lifetime, but on the other hand, my fiance seems to be trying to F*ck me to death, but I'm sure I'm imagining things. Smiley

Brad

WTF do you need a 19 year old for?
I am 63 I will be 64 in 2-3 months.

You could give me every coin back I ever handled in my profile wallet.

I think it is about 400 btc which is now over six million.

I would not be looking for a 19 year old.

You have to live.  I mean you have expenses.  You cannot measure the mere fact that BTC has passed through your wallet as if you had any kind of reasonable and/or prudent ability to hold onto such BTC and to have been able to have lived a reasonable and respectful life.

Let's say that I could have been a multi-millionaire by the time that I was in my early 30s because I had millions of dollars pass through me.. but I happened to have spent the vast majority of such monies, just to live and some of the money passing through me had been to pay expenses in order to have been able to have earned such gross income.

What would have I done?  Lived with other peeps and had them pay for all my expenses.. How long could that work?  Not very long for normies who are not born with any kind of silver spoon in their mouths.

Anyhow, my point about BTC passing through your wallet does not mean shit, and it even means less than shit if you have a business that involves earning in BTC.. Now if you have a business that earns dollars and you purchase BTC with those dollars, then it might be a bit more meaningful to expect that a higher percentage of the BTC that pass through your wallet would be within your reasonable and prudent ability to retain for the longer term.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

On a more 'serious' note then my view of dubious 'gold diggers' and BTC/Crypto in this thread. Smiley

I made a thread, along this theme of when to retire due to Real Life Issues and to do advise a much better job than I did on such. Or just aproach real life issues

in general and the sale of BTC/Crypto in a better manner than I did on my retirement!

In my case, due to circumstances in the abov thread it was the 'right' thing to do, but I did not put in enough though into the possiblity and my real

life goals of a 19K previous ATH (when I retired 2 years out of 3.5 years with BTC/Crypto) the possiblity that it could even concievably drop below 10k again.

Indeed, I sold for real-life issue 13 BTC and recovered 5 BTC..so 8 BTC down at $3,900 usd.

So anyway, the thread is 'don't be me' (unlike now, me that is, not relying on BTC/Crypto for real-life issues...) So 'now' it don't matter much being stupid

with real life issues and the selling and hodl'ing of BTC...back then..well...I coulda/shoulda handled it better..so a cautionary taie in the below thread.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5287244.msg55535263

Anyway, my 'stumbling' about may be helpful to someone, before they to are 'completely' taken in by BTC/Crypto Kool-Aid on this BTC ATH.

Just something to be aware of, which at the time...I should/coulda done a bit better...even though in the end it has all worked out fine.

297  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / When to HODL or SEL & previous ATH retirement-- Real Life Issues Involved! Poll! on: November 06, 2020, 07:56:19 PM
Just an aside on how 'not to' retire on BTC/Crypto using the ATH as a guide and my 'kool-aid' drinking 'mistakes' in how I went about doing this.

On Jan 14th, 2018. Be aware of the ATH returns (likely) and plan your real-life situation closely to account for such. Below is how I decided

to 'retire' at the ATH ...but in 20/20 hindsight could have done a 'much' better job looking down the road with my circumstances. It all has

worked out...but I was more than a bit naive and blinded by the ATH and such. Anyway, my retirement experiences below and/or how to maybe

look down the road and not get a 'bit' as bad as I did, in 2018, even though in my circumstance it was the right thing to do. So anyway,

On a more serious note, then me 'lamenting' in denial the existence of BTC Hodl'er 'Gold Diggers' Smiley

I decided to retire with BTC/Crypto on December 17th, 2017...at the All-Time-High of $19, 184.12 on that date. www.coinmarketcap.com

With this amount of $$$ at the time with a BTC price and with no debt and house paid off..it made quite a 'buffer' to retire 3.5 years early on BTC/Crypto. This was in

addition to above no debts and an 'emergency' set of  'traditional investments' in the 'wings' as a backup.

I had to give a month's notice to my former employer, so I was out the door on January 14th, 2019 at a price of $13,665.02. I exclusively lived on Altcoins (mostly)

I had laying about. I did have to resort at the lows of $3,900 and 'dumped' 13 BTC...of which I've gotten 5 BTC back. So from the experience down 8 BTC at that price.

Ouch! On the other hand, it allowed me to 'retire' on Bitcoin/Crypto 3 years and 1/2 years earlier than the full 66 years and 2 months Social Security retirement. BTC/Crypto

Thus, the BTC/Crypto I have lived off of since January 2019...when I flipped to 'full' traditional investment and bleeding out no more BTC/Crypto to be burnt so far.

The reason I mention above is even though I'm down 8 BTC at the 'stupidly' low price...it did allow me the following:

1) No more work...the stress of not dealing with managerial idiots and with the usual work problems and wage-slave issues of such..is well worth losing 8 BTC alone! Smiley

2) With the BTC sold was a 'panic' sale on my part to get through till 66 years and 2 months in addition to the altcoins...not a bright move, but understandable. Sad

3) Traditional Investments/Paid off house/No Debts..came through in Jan of 2019 so was off the BTC/Crypto 'spend' wagon...so only did about 2 years living on

BTC/Crypto, of the 3.5 years, so there is that. Sometimes stuff plays out in your favor, despite 'panic' (see 2 above)

4) Got to drive to folk's home town and visit them for 2.5+ years more often due to placement in assisted living and eventual nursing home.

If I had not retired these 3.5 years early that would have been tragic indeed!

5) Got to 'wrap' up mining business and get out of such with CPA, in 2019...thus, if not clearing all that up at the right time, I was not too late either!

So as you say, real-life issues have to be taken into account. I was 'naive' like a lot of us when it hit $19k, but now that I don't need to live on

BTC/Crypto to stay retired and Soc Sec kicking in June 2021...well...I can let it ride..even down to below 10k now with no lifestyle or real-life changes

But, in 20/20 hindsight when I thought to retire if the price was already at 10k if we would have had say ..had dropped from $19k to below $10K

...I likely would NOT have pulled the 'trigger' on that 8 BTC and just stayed working. Which in 20/20

hindsight and the 3-year changes at my workplace and the lack of contact with my parents' situation and passing...I indeed would have had much

more in regret than those 8 BTC then the loss of 3 years as freedom from being a 'wage slave'.

So remember, some of us on here 'are' older or have

had time to get out of debt and other means to 'slide by' as we HODL BTC/Crypto. But it took the ATH for me to 'pull the trigger' and retire and spend

some BTC/Crypto to retire early, mainly by ATH and circumstance, so if you want some advice....look around if your situation is like mine and see

what you MAY be able to pull off in a real-life situation without regrets if you need to do so. The ATH and kool-aid drinking thoughts when I retired..that

Bitcoin would never dump below 10k again ...well... were naive...now that I don't rely on BTC/Crypto 'in' my modest retirement it could dump to under

10k again and I'd likely still HODL..but for others this may not be the case. So in 2020 hindsight, I did make the right play in selling those 13 BTC of which

I've scrambled 5 BTC back and am really down only 8 BTC...but I'd do it at a 'more' sensible price than $3,900 for crying out loud. So by all means HODL coin,

but let your circumstances dictate if you have to sell some BTC/Crypto for real-life issues and/or in my case minimize completely large dumps in BTC/Crypto

prices as being 'irrelevant' to your living situation. I stumpled into retiring at the ATH and selling to low to maintain such. Again in 2020 hindsight no regrets

but shoulda/coulda done the same thing with a bit more planning. Smiley

Anyway, the longer you are in BTC/Crypto the more insights you have..thats for sure.

Smiley

either you are lucid dreaming OR you are one horny "goat"...no offense, please.

hey, I'm just commenting on the fact that women seem to be attracted to HODL'ers lately for some 'unexplained' reason...it is 'befuddling' indeed! Smiley

WTF do you need a 19 year old for?
I am 63 I will be 64 in 2-3 months.

You could give me every coin back I ever handled in my profile wallet.

I think it is about 400 btc which is now over six million.

I would not be looking for a 19 year old.

I just find it 'befuddling' that all these women, young and old, have such a 'technical' vision of Bitcoin HODL'ers....and want to hang out with ...us long term

hodl'ers...must be some

kinda of 'glam' about Bitcoin....I don't get it...but then again....can't be the money right? That would be so disappointing...naw... must be they are just hot nerds! Smiley

It must be our technical 'charm' and wisdom, right? It can't be for the money, that would be too depressing. So if people can 'deny reality' on FOX news I'm gonna

continue to go with my pixie-dust/fairyland/unicorn-fart vision on such interest in HODL'ers by the opposite sex. If you don't believe in such a viewpoint, go to any

exotic dancer club, it is amazing how much they will talk to you about the properties of BTC and such. Ah, such wasted 'technical' nerd talent. It must be my 'sparkling'

self-imposed...never to be seen...locked in my house due to the Pandemic ...personality.

Anyway, have to run some Nigerian Prince is in trouble and needs me to hodl his $$$ and BTC private key for a 'modest' fee.

(Denial: 2020 how America copes with the pandemic)

I wonder how they got the key if they didn't get it at the time of the bust.

Coindesk article says the BTC was originally stolen from Silk Road by an unnamed hacker who handed over his keys to the authorities on Tuesday (presumably as part of some plea bargain?)

Or the hacker could be legit..and negotiate a completely legit reward of like 10% or some such on proving he had the keys?

Hell, that is what I'd try....probably not legal ...stolen goods or some such..but I'd try it!

Your view of a hacker handing over keys on plea bargain or the owner of the wallet is the mose logical...99% sure that is what happened also.

I wonder how this will effect the BTC market when the USA dumps 'One Billion Dollars' or more of Bitcoins in a USA Sheriff's Auction of illegal goods...ie Bitcoin siezed?

I'd guess the price would probably go up...I mean, the above BTC hoard would likely be split up in lots and heavy hitters then could buy a mess of BTC at a set price, in mass,

without driving the rest of their attempts to fill their bags with Bitcoin. Thus, IMHO, price would remain the same in market or go up?

I'd expect all such from the auction no matter how many participated would likely be in HODL mode myself..such a buy would not be a 'short-term' deal, IMHO.

Anyway, I know 'zip' ....damn interesting however! Smiley
