Anyway, I'll just have to improve this even further I guess.

Weekly dev podcast it is!

You mean we get to listen to your voice?  Wink

Also, is there a set day that you will do this every week?

Yep, my voice, combined with videos/screenshots.

I will need a few days to prepare everything, do some tests, find a format. But once it is done, it will happen regularly.

I've never done a screencast before, I do have a microphone though, about time I use it for something.  Smiley

I thought by now we would be having a pretty heated discussion going on in this subforum. (as has happened in slack)
You know, dissecting the proposal piece by piece, addressing every issue, discussing legalities, concepts, problems, etc..

It would be great if we could get more discussion going on there. I posted something before, but I really am curious what the big data methodology will look like for Bitcoin, and what it might look like for analyzing smart contracts. I can't say I have a whole bunch to contribute in respect to knowledge, but I think I could come up with some good questions for discussion.

Indeed. Hey, we are all pretty much noobs at this point, because Big Data, especially when done over a P2P network is completely unchartered territory.
Everybody will applaud those who dare to step into this abyss, lol

So go ahead!

I made a similar comment about Darkcoin when they set-up darkcointalk....It's only worth posting in one place until the community is much bigger and the project can sustain multiple threads in different locations. Until then, I'll keep bumping this thread.

For my day job, I actually deal with big data on pretty much a daily basis. I also have to stand up in front of senior executives and explain to them why stuff costs so much and why they need to increase a budget to get better quality data and data analysis tools.  I put the attached together initially for my benefit (I sort of need this format to think things through as though I am about to stand up in front of people to explain stuff) and then for others once some of the details were worked out....so, peer into my head to see work in progress:

Awesome. I actually just made a new thread in Spreadcointalk here: http://spreadcointalk.org/index.php?topic=749.0

Do you mind if I copy the attached and post it there? I can try to keep up with relevant future posts too so it looks like both forums are active. Also, that way posts in regards to this topic can be "filed" so that it is more organized and easy for people to find!

(Sometimes it's difficult to go back through BTCT and see what progress has been made, and how it has been made)

EDIT: Just looked over the whole thing... that's really damn cool.

Regarding more privacy-centric Big data methologies:

Let's discuss IP 2 Geolocation conversions and how useful/acurate they are.

Some context:

My primary interest is IP geolocation data related to mobile SPVs. That's where I see the really big value in Big data.

In theory, we should be able to deploy 'let this app use my location' which is accurate to within a few meters.

User money spending habits + location = holy grail for, erm, everyone.

Georgem, I was just thinking, maybe instead of doing a competition, we could incentivize community involvement on Spreadcointalk under certain important discussions. Every relevant and useful post gets "X" SPR, limited one payment per day per person for as long as funds last.

I could tally the amounts so you don't have to send coins every day. Payments would be received at the fund's end (on the leger I keep).

I was stuck in traffic today and found myself thinking that:

1> zero knowledge contingent payments; plus

2> SPR Instantx; plus

3> Decentralized exchange (cross chain swaps);

Could equal

Instant private Bitcoin transactions using ServiceNodes.

edit

ok. it needs more thinking. Maybe I'll go find a longer traffic jam tomorrow.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Including SPV nodes increases the reach of the "scanned area".

But then, as a precaution, should we even communicate to the outside world (big data market) if a user was sitting behind a mobile SPV or a desktop pc's full node or whatever other means of access he used?

We shouldn't.

But back to geolocation: is this really accurate within a few meters? Maybe in some urban areas, but this can fluctuate wildly.

First of all, you can do with your SPR whatever you want. If you want to go ahead with this idea, just do it!
We'll both be wiser afterwards.

But while the left side of my brain likes this idea,
my right side says that it would be wrong to incentivize people to contribute to discussions because they want to get payed.
It sends the wrong message, and it will make them stop posting once the juice runs out.

No, I think people that want to post should post because they have something to say. That should drive them enough, and if this drive isn't there, why fuel it with SPR?

A "fun and games" competition on the other hand will attract everybody that just wants to be distracted from real life for a few minutes, lol.
And it helps further establish our "mascot"!

Next to a competition, what other interesting bounties could we set up?

Ah, the authoritarian. You can choose any colour you like, as long as its the one I like approach  Grin

Let people choose to opt in (help bitcoin), or opt out (this stuff creeps me out).

IP addresses are poor for locating people to within a few miles.

Mobile SPVs have a far better gps style location system this is accurate to within a few meters, for those that hit that opt-in button.

edit:

So you can choose

> I'm buying drugs today and then visiting a stripper. I'll opt out.

> I'm buying beans today, who gives a shit who knows that. I'll opt-in and help Bitcoin

I had thought about that a bit too... I guess I figured once people were over in Spreadcointalk and the conversations were rolling, they would be far easier to carry on, and people would forget about the microsalary but still post lol.

I definitely still enjoy the Mr. Spread competition ideas.

I think another competition idea would be to put up a few pictures of Mr. Spread and see who can come up with the best caption (by community vote).

The other thing that I thought of was best Spreadcoin Related gif/meme... sort of like the one you made with the dude axing the door a while back.

The latter sort of doubles as great branding and thus could be deserving of a bounty.

I have a few ideas in my head for gifs & memes with Spreadcoin, but have zero know-how on making them. Like this could be made into Smeagol holding the Spreadcoin symbol!

I can't think of much else for bounties because I'm under the impression they should provide some value to the community/ project (i.e. translations, branding, etc.)

I'll defend privacy even if I have to become an authoritarian, lol! hitler himself!

Is there any current SPV wallet out there (for any coin) that is asking the user for access to its mobile's geolocation data?

I don't think so, for the same reason my bank doesn't ask me about geolocation every time I log into e-finance.

Since SPV wallets are inherently insecure devices, is it clever to broadcast the very position of such a device to a network?

I'm just asking.... it sounds like something that will be very tough to sell to the masses. ("... and that's supposed to help bitcoin??" they will ask, ... "by compromising my security?")

So I guess we'll be stuck with IPs.

Your thoughts? Maybe I'm missing something.

I like this alot.
Something like best meme of the week awards?

Awesome.

I'll convert and upload a few hundred "best" pics of mr. spread to the official website, so that people have some material to work with.
In fact, I already have a "best of" folder somewhere, let me see...

Great idea!
