I am completely new to the crypto currencies and I am trying to figure out what to try my hand at mining. So I am in the research stage still. I was reading here about DogecoinDark and now I see the talk about Verge. What is Verge? How do I get more info about it? I am still trying to make heads or tails out of the altcoin mining and so far it has been quite confusing. Any feedback or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if your new make sure to research all coins out there supply and distribution, developers, PoW x PoS, unmineable x mineable coins and very important it's usefulness. 80% of coins out there are pump and dump ponzi schemes or just some experiment that went wrong.
Verge is DogecoinDark it's gonna be rebranded that way in the coming days. The coin has gone from being a better and improved Doge to become a monster in itself so it's pointless to go on carrying "Doge" along with it. Verge will also appeal to a broader audience the name is holding it's value back. Verge is what Satoshi envisioned a complete decentralized (PoW) currency and private. All other coins are anonymous but not private i.e. the system keeps you anonymous but you can be traced to where you are with GPS like accuracy orwellian scary like State even exposing your wallet to thieves. So safety and privacy will become more and more demanded specially after someone becomes aware and use cryptocurrencies. This is where Verge (Doged) will outstand among all others. In the technical argument many have tried to discredit Verge just to end up handing their arse on a silver plate. Even the most well known bitcoin devs out there have kept quiet 'cause Verge is the real deal!
