Give Bitcoin some time. Probably 10 years would be enough for Bitcoin to gain mass adoption and improve its development. Perhaps, after that it would replace the dollar if it has enough demand and governments would back it up. Just my opinion.

Bitcoin has been around only for few years and the very fact that we are discussing if it has a chance to replace US dollar goes to show how far it has got already.

Replacing the dollar will never happen unless we have one world order.
Which will never happen. People are too divided to be united under one central government. There are many conflicts of interests right now and that won't change. Bitcoin is a currency existing over borders or divides therefore is a threat to every national currency, for now governments are turning blind eye to it. But I imagine when big money will be at stake (taxes!) in near future, governments will try to 'regulate Bitcoin or - if they couldn't accomplish that - destroy it.

I think actually replacing US dollar is asking for too much. We live in increasingly multi-polar world and it unrealistic to think there will be only one currency in the long term. If bitcoin wins a substantial share, that would be great already.

It actually has that share that you are talking about, buddy... Bitcoin ain't anymore a "NEWBIE" currency in the market, being adopted at almost everywhere, totally new concept, multiple uses, easy to operate and hard to trace, people's bank in their pockets, what do you need more??? Don't know about future, but it is currently replacing few currencies as in few countries, they are making themselves to be "Bitcoin-only" to show some real support to the currency... And yes, if you are talking about replacement, then we really need to have some very strong value of Bitcoins as 21M won't be enough for this whole world when it comes to have just Bitcoin be used everywhere... Ain't saying we need to increase the amount of Bitcoins available, but I'd rather go and opt for the increase in value of BTC...

I think the government will not support it, the dollar has a long history, it may not be replaced by another curenncy

Well, the day that Bitcoin gets printed in paper money like fiat, it would be the day that it might replace the dollar. Sometimes, I wish I could have a Bitcoin paper bill (dollar bill). I would be so great.

Nope. Bitcoin is not that big and will never be that big. Sure, it might be widely adopted, but countries like their currency to be used only in their country, and the dollar has a long history tied with the US, so i'm having trouble imagining the dollar succumbing bitcoin.

The question is ambiguous.
If I am using a table knife to tighten a screw on a wall outlet, you could hand me a real screwdriver and say we have replaced the table knife with a screwdriver.
In the case of the dollar, it is a tool for extracting wealth from workers for the benefit of the counterfeiters. Bitcoin can never take this role because it is not counterfeitable. Thus, it cannot ever replace the dollar.
However if you mean what currency you use to buy beer, then sure.. it can and has replaced dollar in many places.

In the future, where mankind would be dominated by Artificial Intelligence, then Bitcoin might replace the dollar as it would be used by everything from powering appliances, making transactions, fuel for apps, etc. There are tons of possibilities for it, but these times are just the beginning for Bitcoin. Just sharing my thoughts.

I guess it will not happen the dollar is now more famous than the bitcoin and the dollar also has been the currency of a country, so it is very difficult to replace the dollar bitcoin
