Talking about Dortmund, Bayern Munich's arch-rival. Dortmund's performance in the Bundesliga was relatively poor in the first half of this season. There are still a lot of left in the match and maybe there is still hope for the three clubs in the relegation zone to find points.

If I'm not mistaken Darmstadt have only won twice in the Bundesliga competition this season, which means they have lost a lot of points, leaving them at the bottom of the standings with 10 points. Union Berlin is also not necessarily safe because it is only three points away from a club in the relegation zone.

Over the years, every season, we've seen certain teams leading the top chart of the Bundesliga and there's been some levels of consistency especially for Munich who's most of the time finished at the first position. Before now, Leverkusen and Stuttgart weren't even seen near the top four, it was always a Munich, Dortmund show but there's been much of a difference this season. Now there's a kinda rub shoulders between these teams, Leverkusen and Stuttgart who's been on the sidelines for seasons have now come up to be competitive for the trophy.

 Since the season began, they've been able to be threats to the trophy race, Munich now have to be extra cautious in their games too. They've lost twice in a row and it's kept the ints between them and Leverkusen. Also for Stuttgart who's been doing their best to keep their spot in the top 4 space. It's very much impression that this season took a different turn in the Bundesliga. Leipzig and Dortmund still have to strive to regain back their usual space on the table because currently, they're seemingly below the top 3, although with not much points difference which they still have a chance to meet up with.

Union Berlin are really fighting for their safety in the standings these days. After losing to Bochum really badly they managed to react against Koln and make up for that loss. There is still a gap of 3 points between them and the relegation zone though but they have a missing game to play as well. Hopefully we can see them reaching safety as soon as possible.

Because it isn't nice to see a team in this situation despite being far better in the previous season. They qualified for the Champions League I mean but now they are battling for not relegating from the Bundesliga.    Now they aren't a part of any other European tournament so they can fully focus on the Bundesliga.

No doubt that you are probably right here. I only wanted to remark that when you just look at the table without checking some of the results, you would think that Darmstadt's chances are dead, but that isn't yet the case as they have played some games where it almost felt sad for them that they lost the game. The last time I had a look it was the draw against Hoffenheim that got me thinking maybe a miracle can be possible. I think the same about Luton Town in the Premier League. Now they won at home against Newcastle and three weeks before they had a lead against Arsenal, conceded a goal, which made it 3-3 and then they conceded another goal in the 97th minute. But Luton Town is still alive and I think Darmstadt is similar.

Honestly, with the defense that  Leverkusen has about the consistency they can always maintain, then with that I can confirm the greatness of Xabi Alonso, yes now Leverkusen only has a difference of 4 points with Bayern Munich, I don't think it matters even though the difference is not too significant because obviously we have seen evidence from several matches they have passed that they can always dominate the match by winning three full points or at least sharing points. Next up for Leverkusen is Augsburg which I don't think is a particularly difficult game for them, I'm pretty sure of that.

I look more towards Leverkusen which has the potential to win the Bundesliga title this season even though we all know that Stuttgart is also trying to catch first place but for me that will never be achieved because in terms of consistency it is still very far from Leverkusen and Bayern munich but only currently Stuttgart can still be said to be a challenger for the two top clubs and currently the Bundesliga is becoming more tense because worry always creeps into our minds, fear that Leverkusen will only be able to end up like Dortmund last season when they were very strong but at the end of the season lost first place and again dominated by Bayern Munich.
Xabi is still the best at the moment, almost breaking the strategy that Tuchel always uses and this time the bayern Munich coach is a little overwhelmed to be able to compete with Leverkusen who truly cannot be beaten.

I think it's too late now to find a rhythm for teams like Stuttgart, Dortmund or Leipzig. Because even if you find the rhythm, you will have to depend on Bayern Munich and Leverkusen to drop points to get that championship which they don’t seem to be doing. So far in the 16 matches, both Leverkusen and Bayern Munich have dropped points in 3 matches only which is pretty consistent. Leverkusen actually made a record breaking undefeated run in Bundesliga and they are continuing it. So I would agree with @MinorMiner

I think the championship fight will be between Bayern Munich and Leverkusen only. And I think the deciding match will be between them in February. Stuttgart, Leipzig, and Dortmund have big gaps between them and the top team. Although half of the season is remaining, I don't see them winning it. These 3 teams will be fighting between themselves for the top 4 spots to confirm the Uefa Champions League spot for next season.

This season the competition is much different from before, Laverkusen improved performance and their consistency in leading the Bundesliga standings have so far made them the favorite team. But that doesn't necessarily negate Bayern Munchen status as rulers, and we know that its dominance is not easily broken for many reasons, one of which is the depth of the squad which is better than any other team. The competition for the top four in the standings involving several teams at once is very interesting, but I think the existence of Dortmund, Stuttgart and Leipzig only disrupts the hunt for trophies and the consistency of Laverkusen and Bayern Munchen.

Xabi Alonso does not have as good squad depth as Tuchel, but his strategy in bringing out the best potential in players is worth admitting. In terms of the rotation options that Xabi has, it is a bit worrying that if they are hit by an injury storm, it could make Laverkusen lose his balance. On the other hand, it is very possible for Laverkusen to record an unbeaten record throughout the season if avoided from the storm of injury, as well as win its first Bundeliga trophy this season.
