Hmmm that is right  Borussia Dortmund needs to pay close attention and take this game very seriously if they want to move on to next round. Even though they have not been playing well in Bundesliga they have still made it this far in competition. They should not think that Lille will be easy to beat because Lille has been playing very well too. Dortmund have dropped a lot of points in their poor games and although the gap between the top 4 is not that big the amount of points they need to catch up on is not that big, but if Dortmund are not consistent then it is impossible to achieve that result. If they want to qualify for the Champions League then they have to recover from the poor form they have been having and in the next games they have to be much more consistent. I think it is difficult for Dortmund to catch up on the top 4 because they are in 10th place even though the gap between them and the fourth position is not that big.

Yes you are right that Freiburg is actually quite strong but they cannot be consistent, for example this season they can be in the top 5 or 4 but for the next season they will look like they are declining, that what makes Freiburg just an unstable team and their performance with the results in the Bundesliga will only depend on how strong the other team are.
2022/23 Freiburg finish in 5th place and 2023/24 they dropped by finish in 10th place, now they are back in the top 5 and this competition will be interesting until the end of the season and Freiburg can still compete for place in the top 3.

Freiburg is usually exciting team in Bundesliga while their performance has never been consistent which is the biggest problem but in this problem they are doing good job which is good, but their defense is having serious problems which are not helping them for keeping things on target. Surprisingly they are having impressive performance in last 5 games with 4 wins and 1 draw while their defense also done amazing stuff and concede no goal which is another big achievement now things are looking good for them to have finished into top ranks this could be big boost for them.

With the poor run of Frankfurt now few teams are feeling good as they can go for better spots while RB Leipzig is had the worst time which is also another plus point and advantage but here now game is going to be balanced because all teams needed consistency without this it's not easy.

I don't know if they can make big surprise like Leverkusen did in the future but if it really happens then it will be even more interesting, seeing how Freiburg has been competing in the Bundesliga it seems impossible but no one knows how the team will develop in the future, if they can spend more money on player development then it could be good start.

You said meet Real Madrid in the finals! Dortmund can't meet Real Madrid in the finals because non of the two teams is even guaranteed a place in the Quarter finals yet until they play out their two games first. Real Madrid is facing Atletico Madrid, a team they have been struggling to win for some time now. if the get past ATM, they would still face Arsenal or PSV which might be easy for them though but what about PSG or Liverpool? Dortmund on the other hand will have to face Bayern Munich or Bayern Leverkusen and then Barcelona. Can they survive it?

Everything starts from tonight. Let's see how the first leg of each of this teams in the round of 16 performs. There have been so much prediction on Madrid winning the champions league title. I will wait  till after tonight to know what to expect because Madrid's opponent have not been easy for Madrid to defeat in the Laliga how then are we sure of what to expect in this stage of the competition.

Seeing everyone talking about the champions league games at first I thought this was the champions league thread until I checked again. I guess since Dortmund have a game tonight against Lille in the champions league it can still be discussed here in the Bundesliga thread even though the champions league thread is best suited for the discussion.

As you said Dormund is the favorite but we cannot be so sure because of their inconsistency although they are now getting better in their recent games and they seem stronger in the champions league than the Bundesliga so they should be able to win this round and progress to the next round. Lille cannot be underrated at all so they have to be at their best if they want to win.

Dortmund should Focus more on the champions league than the bundesliga because in the champions league they have the opportunity to achieve their dream target while in the bundesliga they have been eliminated from the title race.

But unfortunately in terms of appearance in this first leg, dortmund performance did not go well because the quality of their game was not good at all.
