Bitcoin you will need an ATM machine. Western Union you need to find their branch. What is easy to find?

Western Union is all over the place while Bitcoin is not, so I guess Western Union is better than Bitcoin "for now".
I understand that in the future more Bitcoin ATM are more accessible unlike today, there's only a few of them.

Funny story about this actually, my brother has a friend who has relatives in those oil countries with big fiat wallets. But the problem was that he kept complaining that WU would take fucking 15-20% off the total amount for the transfer, imagine sending someone 5000€ and all they get it 4250 and that's just their regular 15% fee. Holy shit that's a lot, how the fuck is that shit still in business in the year 2015.

It's sad tbh, I read an article on reddit a long time ago as well that explained how over 60 billion dollars are sent into Africa each year by normal people who want to send money to relatives, etc since they are working outside the continent. And the biggest problem there was that WU and other similar companies were making billions on fee's from those poor souls. Bitcoin would eliminate all that cancer and I'm sure the Gates Foundation was working on some exchanges in Africa to help people use bitcoin as a sending method of wealth with low fee's even thought he receivers or senders don't know how it works or what it is.

This is not such a big problem in some countries in Africa anymore, since they started to use this https://www.bitpesa.co/faq

They have been using a digital mobile payment system called M-pesa for years now, and it has grown significantly. Bitpesa just linked onto that to enable people to accept international payments and to convert it to local currencies including M-pesa.

They are giving WU a run for their money in these countries and competition is always a good thing to disrupt the big corporate companies with their monopolies.

I prefer to be paid in Western Unions, thank you very much.

so you prefer to lose money on stupid expensive fees? for what for a better security? because you feel more regulated and not evading something

some people feel simply dirty using bitcoin, it could be another reason why they avoid it

hehehe... cool image...
i agree with you with that. and in western union.
you still need to go outside. and they will ask you everytime for
your idenitfication cards or something.
unlike in bitcoins. more faster, stressless, and so cheap.
that is why i really love using bitcoin.
even as for now transactions are taking longer than before.

Bitcoin is easy to transfer, but difficult to use as it is not accepted universally. More adoption will change that, but will take long time.

Well i say YES bitcoin is better then western union .
Some of the reason !
1: Easy to use
2: No verification necessary like Your National identity card etc etc
3: Faster
4: Much lower trx - well = 0
5: Can be drawn easily.

Bitcoin is undeniably better than WU. Here in my country which has a sizeable population of overseas workers western union charges almost 12% from remittances while bitcoin is almost 0% in fees. But still many folks don't know how crypto works. Bitcoin still lacks mainstream adoption.

Charging poor people that are working hard far away from home just to send money to their families 12% is a disgrace. They are nothing better than thieves. And they are doing this successfully for years already.

I think that's a time that these bastards cease to exist. I know many people that are sending money to their families via Western Union, since this is their only option. These are hardworking, poor people. That's why I hate Western Union so much.

Stop hoping and start doing. The sooner we ditch services like Western Union and PayPal, etc, the sooner we'll see Bitcoin becomming the standard for transferring money to anywhere in the world instantly, 24/7, and that all for a tiny fee. Action speaks louder than words.

I want to play devil's advocate on this.

This is misleading at best. It dose not take into consideration fees the sender might have to pay to get into the blockchain when dealing with a large number of inputs.

Not all transactions are free nor should they be, fees will go up over time as the block reward is reduced.

Nor dose it take into consideration the time it takes to set up and verify an account with a 3rd party money transmitter (exchange) or the fees those 3rd parties charge for their services.
It dose not take into consideration the chance of said exchanges going belly up or getting hacked, this chance is low but its higher then zero.

People need to stop thinking of Bitcoin as a service and more like a tool.
Currently it is VERY hard to buy bitcoins at a fair market price with low fees. The difficulty of buying bitcoin especially for a new avid user is time consuming and costly.

And finally if were being truly honest with ourselves in most cases the bitcoins will be converted back into cash on the other side and require more 3rd parties taking a cut.

Currently its still faster and cheaper to use Western Union when sending small amounts of money, say... $50; prove me wrong.

What ever the ultimate price is, its sure as hell not one cent.

(I am a 1MB block supporter who thinks all users should be using Full-Node clients)
Avoid the XT shills, they only want to destroy bitcoin, their hubris and greed will destroy us.

Im not sure about that. Western Union fees can be pretty scammy. Sure you can get screwed while converting fiat to Bitcoin, but ideally you would just get on Bitcoin in the future, then its a whole new game. Once you get the money directly in Bitcoin, there just no chearper way to move money arond the planet. It's the fiat to Bitcoin conversion what keeps us lagging behind.

It is ridiculous Western Union still exist, they were most expencive 15 years ago and they are still now. Why people don't open eyes and use other ways to send money worldwide? They really dont care, for huge fees?
Western Union is monetizing on discrepancies in money transfers method. Financial services are not working under one standard and thus we encounter problems when we want to send our money abroad. It is really old fashioned approach as we now have internet and I am wondering how still supporting WE in an era of instant funds transfer over internet.

Bitcoin is more better than Western Union in many ways and there is no comparison between both whether it is about sending charges/cost,ease and freedom.Bitcoin will be main source of remittance in near future because of its unique features. It is already being used mostly for transfer of funds successfully.

But still many people from almost all the countries using western union just because of lack of awareness on bitcoin and it's advantages. This is means they are still rushing to the old trend even they got easiest and cheapest way. It's not fair if we still delaying on spreading word on bitcoin to them.
