Bitcoin can live without relying on any other coin. The others are just copy cat versions of it and relies on it's success. The question should be if altcoins can survive without bitcoin. The answer is a no. There would not be altcoin interest without bitcoins success.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Well most people buy altcoins with bitcoin, but I don't think it would influence the price too much.

True, as other coins are priced in Bitcoins and it's not Bitcoins which has anything to do with these alts...
Alts are subject to be priced in BTC based on their features, so it does not really affect the price of BTC at any cost...

Altcoins really don't have a direct connection to bitcoin, and the price has no correlation. I'd say altcoins make no impact on bitcoin.

I am in the similar situation. I mine altcoins as it is not profitable for me to mine bitcoin directly.

Well but it's risky, right? Altcoin might cost nothing when you want to sell it. But on the other hand it might cost much more in Bitcoin than it was when you mined it. So mining altcoins is almost like gambling IMO.

That is right. It is very difficult to choose the right altcoin to mine. I sold most of my Ethereum when the price was $1.3 after it rose from $0.8.

Altcoins can not take bitcoin's place so they can live next to bitcoin. Without altcoins the market cap of bitcoin could be higher or we would have a lot less investors.

Yeah bitcoin never suffer without altcoin, but altcoin is assumed to be the sub of bitcoin so it suffers a lot. I think the price of altcoin has no impact on bitcoin.

Big investors will only invest in the bitcoin. It has long history and more stable. But as time goes on, some altcoin will be more established.

Most of the people invest into bitcoin as it has the highest price and the highest survived compared to altcoins. I think altcoins is needed to make large number of bitcoin. As users are trading alts and investing profit into bitcoin.

I think it provides newcomers into the Digital currency scene with a bit of excitement and also, developers and punters alike can express themselves through other digital currencies. Bitcoin opened the way to new creativity and modes of thinking and as a monopoly, it wouldn't perhaps grow as it has done. Having these other currencies come into play actually galvanizes more promotion of Bitcoin to the Public as well. I believe it has a positive role to play and also developers can show off their skills to progress in blockchain and other related technologies.  Smiley

Just on this you can't indicate both are interdependent. Its just a trading tactics which helps traders to get some additional profit.
