Bitcoin without Altcoin ?

Those alt coin has a great contribution to increase the value of bitcoin because only bitcoin is accepted crypto currency in online shopping even in exchanging into fiat that is why if there is not alt coin i think bitcoin price is not going to high like what price now.

altcoins are of course supporting bitcoin as well, thousands of dollars being invested in altcoin trading every day. which of course increase bitcoin price.
mostly you can't buy altcoins for other currency. you need to have bitcoins for buy altcoins. and this is how altcoin buy/sell and trade help bitcoin to grow up.

i don't think it has ever worked this way. it is actually working the other way around. it means some of the altcoins get hyped up when bitcoin price goes up and they just follow with no logical reason and rise themselves.

That is right. The ETC version of the Ethereum gets hyped a lot. The price of ETC could drop a lot soon.

now is the time for ethereum classic to be pumped to the top and pass the ethereum forked version.
although i agree that it is all hype and soon enough both of them will die and we get rid of them and all the spam with it once and forall, but for now enjoy the pump profit.

what does morality have to do with anything in trading altcoins?!!!
if you want to consider "pump and dumps" as morally wrong and stay away from anything that is pump and dumped then you have to leave the altcoin market and trading for good.

besides ETC is now at the pumping stage and will not stop as long as it can get pumped which is at least to the ETH price level then they both (ETH and ETC) will start dying slowly as people cash out from both of them and move to better altcoins.

If you think of bitcoin like a new invention (which in a sense it is) you may be able to shed a different light on this question. As with all new things people will try to improve upon or recreate the idea with better features. Bitcoin is exactly the same hence the creation of altcoins. Most founders are either trying to recreate bitcoin but with some better / different features, or are looking to make a bit of extra money into their pockets. Still I believe, as with all business's, there will be a competitor(altcoin) with bitcoin that will have a similar market price with some features that bitcoin doesn't offer.

Altcoins will hopefully be geared more towards niche uses and markets, while bitcoin remains the standard. It would be interesting if there could be a promotional limited timeframe for certain altcoins where at a specified date they would automatically exchange into BTC.

The bitcoin developers are working very hard. The bitcoin Core Client will integrate the SegWit and Block size increase soon.

Could be good for bitcoin demands. The buyers wont be divided and will just use bitcoin instead. But there are too many that wants their own coin now. It will be hard to make them just disappear.

i think altcoins have made the whole crypto scene alot more interesting and there has been some really good innovations.  Bitcoin definitely has value with or with out the alts as it is mostly priced in fiat.  were as alts are more likly to have no value without bitcoin.

altcoin has never had any effect on the bitcoin price.
a while back there was some FUD being spread all over the internet about bitcoin by Ethereum supporters that lead to bitcoin price fall back down to $390 before the big rise but that is all the effects altcoins has ever had on bitcoin.

I agree that altcoin have great contribution in bitcoin value.  It promotes BTC whenever altcoin is promiting itself.  Since lots of altcoin cannot be sold directly to fiat money, and only bitcoin is the only way, it give buy pressure on Bitcoin and at the same time sell pressure that makes  bitcoin trading  economy move.

Without altcoin, some people will not own bitcoin. These guys mine the altcoin and then convert into bitcoin.
