A question that comes up frequently is what can I expect from mining, how many coins can I mine.

This depends on two factors: Network hashrate and your computer's hashrate.

You can see the current network hashrate here: http://www.presstab.pw/phpexplorer/HODL/

It tends to hover around 40,000 to 45,000 hashes/second.

So, assuming that doesn't change dramatically, a simple rule of thumb for calculating how many coins you will mine is: 100 hashes/sec = 1 acorn per day = 50 HOdl per day.

If your computer gets 100 hashes/sec (and a good modern desktop will get this easily) then you can expect 50 HOdl daily. It's that simple. Of course, if the computer is only mining for part of the day then the output is reduced accordingly.

Processors made before 2006 are not worth using for mining HOdl, they don't have the AES-NI instructions.

is it useful to use more memory per core or does it make only a marginal difference?

you need at least one core per gb, but you can use more cores per gb (but it doesn't help, afaik).
genproclimit sets the number of cores PER gb (as in minermemory).
so if you want to use 8gb and 8 cores you should use -minermemory=8 and -genproclimit=1
personally I think it's better to use just 1 gb and all the cores on it (default settings) because it takes a lot to compute a single nonce and doubling the ram almost doubles that time.

Yes. What happens depends on your operating system and how mining is set up on the computer.

Each time a new block is mined it is given a new address. In Windows these blocks will show up as completely separate to your deposited amounts. If you want to deposit them to get bonus interest just send them all to another address in the same wallet using the Deposit button.

If you are mining from Linux, the mining command contains an address to sent the mined coins. I send them all to one address on my laptop, then daily - sometimes more often - save them to a separate deposit address.

Yes, generally there is no problem re-using addresses and having multiple deposits of different lengths and non deposits at the same address. Re-using addresses does have some theoretical security weaknesses, but for practical purposes, it's not a problem.

Using 1 GB is best for most machines. Using 2 GB may give some performance improvements, but offset by more risk of orphans. You might eek out some higher performance with more gigs on very unusual setups, but 1 or 2 GB is best for nearly all casual miners.

Windows 10 is a absolute resource pig. Im wondering how much better I would do in Linux anyone run Linux on a AMD 8 core what kind of hash are you getting?

I saw a tweet from a couple days ago that said the latest win64 release is an 8% boost in mining speed vs the old win32 version.   Did the Linux version get any improvement in mining speed?  Just trying to figure out if I should bother to update my google cloud and amazon aws instances or not.

Also, in the qt where we are shown all the information on our current deposits, would it be possible to stick in the ability to sort the columns in the next release?  As coins come in, I've been locking up about half of them for a full year, and the rest spread out all over the place.  So I have a ton of small deposits and it would be nice to be able to sort them by maturation block or term or whatever.
