Btw, this is the result of FP2 from the Mexico GP. Max and Charles appeared to be quite strong during the practice session.

In FP3, this time the positions changed quite much.  Tongue  Max finished in 6th place... He had more laps from all the drivers ahead but still it wasn't enough to finish even near top.

1. Norris
2. Hamilton
3. Russell
4. Leclerc
5. Piastri

This was top 5 at the end. Norris looked solid and I bet he will make difficulties for Max in qualifying tonight. Piastri is still bad unlike him.

By the way I wouldn't be deceived by this result. I expect a solid effort for pole by Max.

There was a slight delay in today's race due to some repairs by the organizers. And as the race progressed, I saw Bagnaia having a little trouble keeping up with the speed of Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta who were both using Soft-Soft tires. Meanwhile, Bagnaia was using Medium-Soft tires and he was even almost approached by Joan Mir who was also using tires with the same compound as Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez. But unfortunately with three laps remaining, Bagnaia's motorbike experienced a problem at the rear which made it difficult for him to turn, which forced him to retire from today's race.

This is how it looks after qualifying.

Here is full results: https://www.formula1.com/en/results/2025/races/1272/mexico/qualifying

Norris had such a spectacular lap in Q3 that nobody managed to even get close to him.  Smiley  Ferrari drivers had a wonderful day. For two race weeks, they are really impressive!

Verstappen was below the expectations. He had trouble especially in Sector 2. And Piastri was a disaster again. He says he doesn't understand why his pace is this bad. By the way Sainz will have a five-position drop because of a penalty from the last race.

I watched last night, and must say that Lando pull out that lap spectacularly! On some moments, he was half a second up on Max, something that Max did in Austin.
And yes, Oscar had pretty bad session again. I've listened to Stella, and they think it's not about car that has an issue, but it's to driver that is not familiar in this track conditions and he needs to try figure it out. Personally, I don't think that's na issue, I'm afraid that from this point, Lando could be No1 driver and that all focus should be on him. But let's see how the race will end.  Cheesy

The Mexico Grand Prix was one of the most exciting races of the season. It was nothing short of a miracle that there were no crashes in the early laps. Despite all the blocking and running off track, only Hamilton receiving a penalty was particularly ironic. The VSC in the final laps was a lifeline for Leclerc and Bearman. I'm not sure if there's a serious attitude within the team towards Piastri.

There's no other explanation for the performance of a driver who was alone in first place before the mid season break dropping so dramatically. There are also serious issues with the penalties handed out. Hamilton went off the track because of Verstappen, he could have rejoined the track alongside the others, but at that moment, Verstappen had already passed him. Even if he wanted to give his position back, it would have been a difficult scenario.

It can be said that the fight for the world driver championship title will become more exciting, as there are not many races left and Max's gap with Norris, the new standings leader, is getting narrower, making the competition between the two of them and Piastri even more intense in each subsequent race. Not to mention Charles, who has been quite competitive in several recent races, which makes the top-tier competition even fiercer, and so far there is no guarantee who will come out as the world champion, whether it will be Norris, Max, or Piastri.

With four races remaining, Max needs to maintain his consistency to win races or at least finish in the top 3, or hope that the McLaren duo crash and DNF. That way he can hope that he can get his fifth title.

Btw, this is the latest update on the standings after the Mexican GP.

Verstappen should have got a time penalty for hitting Hamilton from the side. But only Hamilton was punished. FIA messed up in another situation I remember. That VSC in the last laps was just ridiculous. Sainz already managed to drive his car to safety after the crash. Why did they feel the need of a VSC there man?  Huh  I can't imagine Verstappen's frustration after finding it out... Really crucial 3 extra points lost for him there in the championship race.

And yeah now Norris is officially the new leader in the standings by only 1 point! Something is still wrong with Piastri. Is it due to really him or a problem with the car I wonder?

Leaving only 4 seriie of very close competition, with just a 1-point difference. And there are 3 drivers who still have a great chance of becoming world champion. At the top of the standings are the McLaren duo with Piastri at 357 points, followed by Lando Norris at 356 points. And Max Verstappen at 321 points. I think the world champion will be decided in the final round serie.

There were many question marks at the Mexico GP yesterday, because both Max and Hamilton made mistakes, but only Hamilton received a penalty. However, the FIA has a reason why they did not give a penalty to Max but gave one to Hamilton. I don't know much about the situation, but I can say that Max was quite lucky not to be penalized at the Mexico GP yesterday. Additionally, Charles should have also received a penalty on lap 1, but he was also lucky not to get it, and he was also fortunate to get the VSC on lap 70 – he should be grateful to Carlos for giving him the opportunity to rest his tires, and also to Bearman.

And for Piastri, the situation is quite difficult for him right now, because McLaren said that they don't have any particular car setup for Norris, yet at the Mexico GP yesterday we could see the difference in performance between his car and Norris'. However, the current assumption is that Piastri is just not very good on low-grip circuits, whereas Norris is quite strong in that regard. Even so, this cannot yet be considered a definite conclusion, as there might be other factors.

It was an unfortunate race for Max... He had big issues on certain parts of the track during the weekend. It cost him really valuable points in the title race. Not to mention the unbelievable VSC by FIA in the last moments of the race also.  Sad

Yeah, Norris is at top now! He had to wait for 5 races to get a win again and this has carried him to the lead right away. But it's all thanks to Piastri's bad look. Will he really be like this until the end of the season??

After rumors of his F1 career in doubt, Colapinto finally got the chance to stay with Alpine until the 2026 season. Alpine ultimately decided to retain him after making a good impression on the team - despite his lackluster performance, Colapinto managed to convince Flavio Briatore that he was still worth keeping. This means Alpine has secured two drivers for their 2026 car: Gasly and Colapinto, with a Mercedes-powered power unit.

In other news, Isack Hadjar is currently practicing for a significant test in 2026. His impressive performance as a rookie has placed him in prime position to be promoted to the Red Bull team, along with Max. This test is crucial for Hadjar, as the 2026 regulations are approaching, and he needs to build more knowledge to adapt to the new generation of cars more quickly.

There are really only 4 races left in the season. Time flies...

The remaining races:

Brazil (sprint included)
Las Vegas

I really hope a speedy recovery by Max in next race. He has no choice other than winning all the remaining races for the championship for now. Let's consider he did so then McLaren will need to help him with some bad results.

Is this an unreal scenario? I don't think so. It took Norris 6 races to get another win in the season. There is no guarantee he will keep it up. Piastri is already a mess as I said before.

There are really only 4 races left in the season. Time flies...

The remaining races:

Brazil (sprint included)
Las Vegas
Qatar (sprint here also)
Abu Dhabi

The maximum points still up for grabs in the normal race and sprint race are 125 points. And the point difference is very close; anyone can still become world champion. Lando Norris, Piastri, and even Verstappen still have a chance to be world champion this season. For McLaren, it felt like déjà vu from the 2007 season, when Hamilton and Alonso clashed and both retired from the Chinese Grand Prix. However, this didn't happen with Norris and Piastri.

The chances for Max to win the remaining races aren't very high, but if Max strives to get P1 in the remaining races, I will support it, because honestly, from the beginning of the season he wasn't considered capable of catching up with McLaren due to his poor car. However, as the season progressed, he showed his consistency and won several races. So, many possibilities could happen in the remaining races this season, and hopefully, we can have an exciting end of the season, where Max can put up a strong fight against the McLaren duo.

If you ask me on this I'd say it's quite possible. McLaren drivers could really crash into each other and get even double DNFs. The only reason they aren't doing it in the recent races is that Piastri can't keep up with Norris.  Tongue

So yes, Verstappen still has a realistic chance for another title. If he makes this gigantic comeback it will not only be his 5th consecutive title. It will certainly be a special one too. I can't wait for São Paulo Grand Prix!

Btw, this is the latest update on the standings after the Mexican GP.

Interesting spot if you guys bet on Norris to win the drivers championship at around 3 to 1 odds and using Piastri as a hedge at around 1.55 - 1.60 odds or so...  You'll be freerolling at this point as long as Verstappen doesn't get into a good run and breaks the party.  Cheesy Cheesy

...  Which he could.  Lol.

Anyway, Brazilian GP is gonna be a couple weeks from now.  That's a track where Verstappen could win it easy be it a dry race or a wet race.

Looking at these odds, I would rather bet on Verstappen @4.50. At least it would be a more exciting run while there are only 4 races left.  Grin.  I expect him to return much better with the Brazilian GP ahead.

It is a really fast track as a reminder. It isn't a track that overtaking is near impossible too as far as I remember. But first we need to leave behind a weekend without F1 first... Anyways, we are still going to have 4 races in a month at least.

I think the Brazilian GP will be an exciting race, as it will be a wet race. Predictions call for showers on Friday (58% chance), steady rain on Saturday's sprint (60%), and a pattern of persistent wet conditions lingering into Sunday's main event. This will be a somewhat favorable race for Max, as he's typically very strong in wet conditions, and that will give him a great opportunity to dominate again this time around. Let's see how the race goes.

Mmm..  For a small bet and with so few races left for the season, Verstappen to win the world drivers championship would be a fun bet.  But for any amount more than 50 bucks, I'd say that's a waste of money.

As we move closer to towards next weekend I think the possibility of a wet track for the Brazilian GP will only go up.  It's prolly gonna be more than 60% of rain by Thursday.  Grin Grin

Just a hunch tho.

What do you guys think of the early odds for Piastri at 4.50?  Wink

Speaking of MotoGP, I read that Bulega is replacing Marquez on the Ducati in MotoGP, he will race with Bagnaia in Portugal and Valencia, which is a great thing because they have given the opportunity to a guy who in my opinion is very strong to race in place of Marquez.
