Should I be pointing my miner somewhere else right now, or is the backend still working enough for it to be safe?

backend is working fine, just a backlog of shares to work through which is delaying the stats. there are some blocks that appear to be trying to pay out 4 times - which I cannot afford, until this is resolved payouts are disabled. sorry for any inconvenience edit: In the home straight now, last unnanounced block was just announced, only a few million shares to go

Thanks Graet! YAY!!! That was not good, but the ddos helped us identify some weak points, which have now been fixed making the pool more robust. In no way claiming to be ddos proof - just if it happens again issues like we have just resolved wont be repeated. Thanks for the good humour and patience through this trying time

This is a copy of the email sent to Ozcoin members announcing timing of fee introduction:
For 14 months now Ozcoin has operated as a fee free pool, initially as a Proportional pool and since late December with the fair Double Geometric Method payout system. In this time we have developed into one of the best Bitcoin mining pools out there.
The Bitcoin mining scene has changed considerably in the time Ozcoin has been operating. With the next generation of mining equipment on the horizon we see more changes and development will be needed by all pools that want to continue to offer mining services.
To ensure the stability, long term viability and continued development of Ozcoin as a Premium Bitcoin Mining pool we need to to introduce a 3% fee for service.
This email is a notice that a 3% fee for service will be introduced by Ozcoin from the first block found after 00:0:01 UTC Sunday 19 August 2012.
5% or VIP donor incentives will continue for those miners that contribute an extra 2% to the pool.
Thanks to the miners, Donors and coders that together have made Ozcoin the great pool it is today.
Graeme Tee Managing Director Ozcoin Pooled Mining Pty Ltd
EDIT: This is a change to the 0fee DGM part of the pool PPS fee remains 5%

Guys Firstly to the many supporters of Ozcoin - Thank you To those that have enjoyed 0fee mining but never contributed to the pool in any way: If you don't like the fee move on.There are plenty of 0fee pools out there This was a decision I did not take lightly. For 14 months I have been paying the difference between donations and costs. please do not waste your time or mine writing abusive and vilifying messages/emails. especially if you have taken no time to find out some facts or reasons. I look forward to the email that says "thanks for an awesome 0fee pool but your fee cuts into my margin too much, I'll have to move along, thanks for your efforts and good luck" my choices were 1: close one of the best Bitcoin mining Pools and pay miners out - so long Ozcoin 2: ask people that use the pool to pay for it and have some funds to spend on developing the pool further - long live Ozcoin 3: do what ARSbitcoin (and too many others to remember) did and neglect the pool untill it fails and leave miners with unpaid funds they will never see. - too bad cya miners which would you choose in my position? be honest now. Thanks for reading Graeme

Surely most everyone understands Graet. Obviously you shouldn't be paying so much cost out of your own pocket.
Question though, is PPS going to remain at 5% or will the fee for that increase as well?

He needs 3% to cover costs. That would mean 5% for PPS users and those that already donate 3% or more are unaffected by the change. It's only those that contributed less than 3% that would be affected. I would expect that the 3% is based on current value of BTC. If BTC continues to rise, maybe it'll go down, and if it decreases, maybe it'll go up. BTW to Graet and the Ozcoin team, I think this is entirely reasonable. No one should be paying for a pool out of pocket. M

This. He shouldn't have to pay anything and also deserves some profit for his work. But 3% of 1900 1755 ghash/s is 57 52 ghash/s, which currently equals to about 9.8k 9k USD/month. Thats a WHOLE lot of servers/traffic. Can you tell us something about your actual costs to give us some transparency? edit: updated hashing rate to current 7 days average.

Did you add the fact that if ozcoin ends a month in minus luck which can easily happen even at 2TH that they actually pay out more than they earn from the blocks mined. Do you understand that their DGM setup doesnt payout only what a block is worth, long rounds consistently they will make a loss. So look at the last difficulty overall payout from ozcoin vs 0% pps rates and you will notice they have had difficulty periods below 0% PPS due to bad luck, this in essense cost them BTC above the block rewards.

Thanks for the support to many people. Including other Pool ops.. Graet has been very sick on the entire thing however he knows this is the only way we can continue to grow. I have even told him that I feel many pools will go to a fee base in the future. The days of free pools will be gone as more resources will be needed to keep such large speeds at bay.
Of course we dont want anyone to leave but we know reality. We just hope to provide a stable and reliable pool in which people can trust. We have a team of people that work on OZCOIN in which keeps everyone honest.
