Investment provide slow profit compare if you want to trading so you can spin your bitcoin faster for profit but the risk is you have chance to lose against house a bit faster.

However you are correct that one must try their hands on something that they are experienced in or interested in if they are new to it. I think both thing are good, if a person do not have knowledge in trading, it won't be profitable for him to trade.  Obviously the better option for him is to invest and trust his money to other people to gain profit.  But if a person have knack in trading then definitely trading is the best option for him.  He will get more profit in trading than any other investment venture managed by other people.

It is possible for any coin to disappear in future even if it looks promising in the present. You must use your own decision and reasoning to figure it out. Buying one altcoin thinking it will have a multiplied value in future is very lame because most altcoins never end up like that and if you take a look at the altcoin market its the hype of the people that drives it and once its over the developers are not longer found you come to know that it was a shitcoin.

I prefer investing more because it is not aggressive and does not require me to monitor daily price movements. Investment becomes an option for me because I want to reap the rewards when I can not make money from work.
