Hey guys, I have a quick question. I started mining a little less than a month ago with my 6950 and sadly when I first started I didn't run it nearly as much as I should have. The calculator told me I could make around 60 bucks a week and now it's down to 20. My main card is a 6950 however I have an old GTS 450 I do not use anymore sitting around. Would it be worth it to throw this into my computer to try and get some extra mh/s and bitcoins or is it not worth it for power/heat vs bitcoin payoff? Thanks.

Not worth the extra 45-50Mh/s verse the extra power usage, heat and very potential headache of getting both Nividia and Ati drivers to play along nicely.

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

I generally refer people to this site, http://bitminer.info/ which gives some pretty acceptable, if not slightly pessimistic numbers on power usage vs profit, and gives dollar per day, and payoff of investment times. Looking at it we can see that a GTS 450

CardGTS450   MH/s 45   BTC Per day ฿0.03   Current Value $0.46   Watts used106   Profit after cost at .15c per Kilowatt hour. $0.08    GPU Cost$124.69    Days it would take to pay off the card1558.62

So if you never had to pay for power, it would make $0.46 per day, or $14 per month. So you tell me if its worth it for you? Personally I wouldn't bother, but I'm doing this more professionally than as a hobby, so I'm looking for the best MH/J with only some consideration for cost of GPU.

Been mining for only about a month, bought a 6950 to mine with and use as an upgraded gaming card too. Picked up a 5830 with coins earned from 6950 mining and installed it on a 1x slot with a riser cable and now working on tuning the rig with 2 cards, and iro ning those issues out.

linuxcoin, open case, usbstick in the basement...mining 2x6970's ~360MH/s (looking for ways to bump up), 1x5830 ~235 MH/s  ~730 Watts.

oh and one 6850 ~220 MH/s tucked away in a corner at work

Okay, post number 3.

I'm running an ATI Radeon HD 5870 on a brand new MacPro, and only getting around 2.0 MHashes/Sec using DiabloMiner.  The Hardware page says I should get twice that.

I tried using POCLBM-MOD, and it was even slower.

I tried using the -v switch on POCLBM, and it failed.

Is there some Mac driver issue that prevents me from using Vectors on my 5870 on a Mac?

--DrFuzzy

2MH/s out of a 5870 you should be getting a whole lot more than that, more like 350MH/s are you sure you havent picked the cpu as your device rather than the card? id tell you the line but im not familiar with macs or diablominer

I got the decimal wrong... it gets 209 MHashes per second, but that's still shy of 350-400.

I tried to use Phoenix, but it failed.

Hello, I'm Johnny Caps
Interesting concept these bitcoins. I just now learned about them and count me in. There is obviously quite a bit to learn about how to use them and the whole socioeconomic impact they could have (with any luck at all). Anyway, very exciting and I'm off to read and learn as much as I can as fast as I can. Oh and thank all of you and whoever created this forum. There are a lot of really smart people on here answering a lot of really smart and not-so-smart questions from us newbies.
As soon as I figure out how to I want to accept bitcoins on my website. I wonder if I can accept bitcoins on ebay? I'll look into it. How cool would that be?

Did you know you can EDIT your posts to avoid multiple back-back posting?  It's fairly easy once you do it the first time. :p

Hi.  I am a 30 year old female...am I the only girl here?

No, I've seen and "talked" to other girls here.  But you gals are few and far between.  Welcome.
